X-Men: Destiny
X-Men: Destiny Reveal Trailer Reveals Developer
Written By

IGN revealed exclusively tonight a teaser trailer for X-Men: Desinty, which was announced earlier today. At the end of the trailer, it is shown rather discreetly that the developer for the game will be Too Human vets Silicon Knights. This effectively puts the planned trilogy of Too Human on hold for the time being, though that may have been the case anyway as the first offering did not fare well fiscally, not to mention the delays, lawsuits and other issues during the lead-up to the game's release. This is a bit of a surprising turn for Denis Dyack and company, but I suppose having a seasoned company behind what appears to be a rather inventive and fresh offering on the superhero genre, and the X-Men in particular, can only be a good thing.

Very little is still known about exactly what type of game X-Men: Desinty will turn out to be, but this puts at least one question to rest until Activision releases some solid info this weekend at the New York Comic Con.

curious, though Silicon Knights should get together with Nintendo for Eternal Darkness 2...and making Too Human 2 (I actually liked it, except for the dying a billion times & sitting through a long cutscene each time). We need a MUA3, but with luck this will end up being X-Men Legends 3

awesome. they did a good job with too human, although very short game, it did have replay value and challenges (which i died alot trying to complete). this xmen game could rock, but it's still too early to tell.

I'm guessing you get to create your own mutant and go through some bland storyline with RPG elements that will be really similar to every other game.

BUT, that's just the pessimist inside me screaming that there can never be a good X-Men game. Hopefully these guys can prove me VERY wrong.

Should be good. There track record is more hit than miss although some would say otherwise. Too Human wasn't the greatest game but what about Eternal Darkness or the Legacy of Kain series. Hope this is like there pre-Too Human work.

Too human was a diamond in the rough, there were elements to it that made it hard for people to get involved with. At least the main stream that is. Sometimes you have to think outside the box to get something revolutionary. Turns out people just werent ready for too human. Not to mention the fact that he overhyped it kind of harmed him a lot.

The people who dislike Too Human are the people who played with 15 ranks higher, no skill. Get a Commando lvl 50 with the four empty slots, boost the red runes and you are untouchable. The game is fun and you learn to adapt the camera. I can't help if you played with a Defender with nothing with a a champion xD i love Too Human Full GS on two diff accounts

Intersting, although I was really hoping that they would be working on Eternal Darkness 2 next. The structure and scope of that game was immense, and it was gripping waiting to see what would become of each character. Maybe one day they will get around to it.

@23. No, I can't appreciate a piece of shit game that had ALL the time in the world to be good. From the crumby controls, to the horrible acting, and crappy graphics. What's to like?

Back on topic. This game has a GREAT premise. I've always wanted a completely customizable, super powered character. And seeing as Champions Online was taken from us consolers, this would be a GREAT fill-in. But, the game will more than likely suck.

Too Human is one of worst game I had played because gameplay is broken and story is bored so graphic aren't that bad. Well Silicon Knights let hope they make X-Men Destiny become good or great game like they did with Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid games on GameCube so Too Human is epic failed from those developer. Good luck Silicon Knights lol

Why is everyone comparing this game, that we have heard or seen nothing about to Too Human? We know nothing about the game to where it would be appropriate to compare them. Yes it's the same developer, but it has also been some time since the release of Too Human, who knows what SK is capable of now. And to be honest, I never had any problems playing Too Human. I thought it was a fun game and never even knew that people hated it until reading about it on this site.

Planned trilogy put on hold? I think the first game completely bombing at retail and being panned by critics effectively killed the chances of any future games in the franchise.

Eternal Darkness was the only worthwhile game Silicon Knights have put out, and I doubt we'll ever see a sequel to that.

To those praising Too Human and claiming nobody put enough time into it.

I beat it and it's 2 days I'll never get back. The controls were absolutely disgusting and had the worst collision detection ever. The game took 11 years to develop and it felt like it belonged on PS1. The analog stick for attack? Who smoked what to come up with that idea? I moved left and up...the character went right and down. There wasn't even a control change option. Character development was sadly watered down. Thor is a burly, mead sipping fatass? Get the hell out of here. Oh, and my personal favorite - those 2 days wasted on the game? at least 9 hours were contributed to a useless revival Valkyrie scene. That scene alone must've taken 4 years to develop.

@ 21 - If Too Human is a diamond in the rough, then it hasn't left the Coal phase yet b/c it wasn't even rated well. Out of everyone that gave it a score, majority barely went above 6/10. IGN gave it a 7 but IGN gives every game a "Chance". I've been saying in these threads for a while that every game comes down to Personal Preference but when a game is noted for being 10+ years in development and doesn't meet up to par with it's original idea - I'd say that's a bad game. If you like it, good for you but there's a fair difference between what you like and publicly epic.

@ 23 - Care to wait a decade? Maybe it'll release on the next console with PS2 graphics. Wait, what am I saying? That's a guarantee!

@ 40 - The main argument made against it is the 10 year comment. This comes from individuals who fail to understand what was going on. It first started for development on the PS moved to gamecube (I believe?) so it had to be recoded then it was scrapped for a while and finally was put back into development for Xbox 360. Are you telling me they had time recoding constantly/etc to develop new concepts/etc past what they did? The way they approached it was unique and different. It's not our fault the only genre you can appreciate is mainstream. Mainstream has proven in the past to be completely idiotic as well.

@ 42 - That's why I at least (and painfully) finished the game. I didn't want to just write it off with the everyone else after Level 1. Regardless, 10 year development aside, the end result wasn't great. Heck, I would barely categorize it as "good". It had a fantastic look and idea but the mechanics were really terrible. I've rarely found a game that not only utilizes the analog for attack but does it well too. I'm an On The Fencer when it comes to Mainstream. I like some to most of it but not b/c everyone else is buying it or my friends have it. I try it and I'll make my choice. It's only rarely (and cheaply) i do it for friends. I like Halo but I don't praise it. I honestly prefered the books until Reach came out. I'm actually noted among my friends for liking "pure crap" but as I'm also noted here for saying - "To Each His Own". If it bothers you that much what "I" like, then do the world a favor and swallow a knife handle first.

@44 Again, it never really was in development for "10 years" it was in development, got scratched, started over again, got scratched, started over again. They only had 2 years to actually do anything for the 360 version. Say I have an idea, I've been thinking about the idea since I was 10, I finally make my idea when I'm twenty. It instantly must of been in development for 10 years if I didn't do anything other than think about it with the current time and tools, no? How many other games by this logic have been in development for far longer? By this logic any series has been in development for as long as it's been in play.

As for the analog, it was something different. Had it been button mashing instead every reviewer would of bitched and said "BUTTON MASHING"
