THQ has today announced the release date for de Blob 2: The Underground, which sees the franchise debut on HD consoles for the first time. Previously Wii only, de Blob has you playing as the titular paint splodge, bouncing around bringing colour to the black and white streets of Prisma City.
Under the control of Comrade Black, Prisma City's inhabitants are brainwashed and the metropolis becomes a dull, monochrome and lifeless place. As de Blob, you'll paint your way through the city injecting colour into everything you touch, with an interactive soundtrack scoring your shenanigans and a few new moves and upgradeable abilities, as well as a new robot sidekick called Pinky helping de Blob out along the way.
de Blob 2 will also support co-operative and competitive multiplayer, and will also be subject to THQ's transmedia strategy, with plans beyond the game itself. “We are thrilled to expand the world of de Blob into high definition and 3D gaming with an entertaining and immersive experience that brings back the adventures of the fun-loving, free-spirited hero,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Games for THQ. “In addition to the release of de Blob 2, THQ will extend the reach of its most colourful owned intellectual property with an upcoming Syfy partnership and de Blob-branded consumer products.”
What's that? A SyFy partnership again? Surely not a de Blob TV show?! Given that it's an agreement with SyFy Kids, it looks like a distinct possibility. And the game supports those newly-fangled 3D televisions too? Wowzers.
de Blob 2: The Underground will be bringing colour to consoles everywhere from February 22nd, 2011. Check out the new trailer and 12 screens in the gallery.
