This really did end up being a great game, though not without its flaws. I've decided that, a year later, I'm gonna play it again and go for the remaining achievements. Wish me luck!

As video game premises go, it doesn't get much simpler than Splatterhouse. A young guy's girlfriend is kidnapped. Young guy is left for dead. Young guy finds an ancient mask, puts it on and becomes a hulking great killing machine. It's typical, everyday stuff you'd see in any television soap opera.
As Rick Taylor, you tear through Splatterhouse ripping heads from necks, lungs from freshly-made neck holes and arms from sockets, all with enough blood to refloat the Titanic gushing from its gaping wounds. There's plenty of red on show here then and more dead meat than a butcher's shop window.
So this week, switch your brain off and your button-bashing thumbs on, as Splatterhouse enters stores this week in North America and Europe. Check out the launch trailer for a quite burst of story exposition and yes, loads of blood too.
