With SSX staying off-piste for the last three years following the release of SSX Blur for the Wii, those recent rumblings of a new SSX title refuse to go away after the discovery of EA's registration of several new domain names for an SSX title.

Going under the possible moniker of SSX: Deadly Descent or SSX: First Descent, a source close to the development of the game has told Kotaku that an SSX title for HD consoles has been underway for the past two years. The source also claims that the new game will return SSX to its roots, but will utilise the analogue stick-flickery of Black Box's Skate series.

It's also said that members of the Skate dev team are working on the rumoured SSX title, while an online survey distributed this summer continued to fan the flames of speculation  with an unnamed snowboarding game described as "an intense, moment-to-moment battle against the forces created from riding your snowboard over the most spectacular and remote mountains on Earth." Reprtedly the gameplay involved "avoiding, out-running and even riding on top of massive avalanches; battling hurricane winds; white-outs; bitter cold; falling rocks; and gaping crevasses that open up at a moment's notice."

The survey also had the artwork below attached to it as an impression of what the game might look like. Sounds like it could be describing an SSX game to us. Hopefully, this weekend's VGAs will shed some light on all of these rumours, hearsay and speculation. Hell, it could even have something to do with that 'planet' teaser released for the VGAs a couple of weeks ago. Fingers crossed for some clarification sooner rather than later.
