Halo Wars Stat-Tracking Rescued By 343 Industries
Written By
View author's profile

With Halo Wars' online stat-tracking initially set to be removed following a planned transition to Halo Waypoint, fans can today breathe a sigh of relief, as those plans have now changed and the stat-tracking will continue to function as normal, meaning that you'll still be able to access your Halo Wars stats for the forseeable future.

"Plans have changed and Halo Wars stat-tracking will continue to be supported after all. In other words, you, the Halo Wars fans, spoke and we listened. 343 Industries and Waypoint are in the process of investigating alternate ways of continuing to support Halo Wars stat-tracking, and while exact plans have yet to be formalised, Halo Wars fans can rest assured that they will continue to be able to access their game statistics online," reads a post on the Halo Waypoint forums, announcing the decision to abandon plans to shutdown Halo Wars stat-tracking on December 15th.

Following an impassioned outcry from the Halo Wars community, 343 Industries "decided that the current plan of action was not in line with how we have always intended to support Halo games and the Halo franchise in general."  The forum post then followed up by re-assuring fans that this isn't just a delay and that their stats will be safe. Title Update 5 is also still on the way to fix Theatre issues that some players are experiencing.

So, on December 15th, the Halo Wars and Halo Waypoint forums will merge, but nothing else will change, meaning you can carry on playing the RTS 'til your heart's content.

Excellent news. I love Halo Wars :)

This is also great because it shows 343 does care about fans and isn't going to do things just to make money, but also to make fans happy.

While I try to read past the morons who get on the previous First Poster (fell victim to it myself but it IS irritating), this is awesome especially for those who don't think 343 will hold the torch right. I'd say this is a great first step into telling fans "we got yer back."

@10 Your comment doesn't have anything to do with the article either.

Now I'm going to cut this crap and say: never played the game and never propably won't. Still good news for the fans.

@ 16 - Ding Ding Ding!!! That's what kills me, if you're going to call attention to these mooks anyway, at least regard the article and don't jam your own foot in your mouth? Out of the umpteen times I've found myself drawn into an argument with/over these goobers, I at least comment on or about the news in question *sigh*.
However, Jappe, do you dig Command and Conquer? or Halo at all? Then at least try it. It's surely the best RTS to grace a console. Very easy to adapt and beatifully executed graphically and gameplay-wise.

I hope this is a sign that the title will get continued support. Some new maps would be nice. I know I'm dreaming but would be great to get some bigger maps.

Also, I know that Halo Wars has a dedicated fanbase (albeit a small one, but dedicated). My buddies and I still play it regularly. We're hoping for a sequel to it.

Halo Wars was shit IMO and excellent proof that RTS games should stay on PC^^ Still I beat it and enjoyed the story and I bet there are ppl who don't know how to use keyboard with mouse effectively and enjoy HW on 360, so all the better for them!

@ 22 - Quite the opposite for me. My PC is currently down for the count and I just haven't inveseted in a new one. I despised C&C on the console regardless of wasting months of my teenage life on RA2. This, Civ Rev and The Sims 3 are excellent examples that Genres Can Shift Consoles. Not perfect but you can't say it doesn't work. Still hope they develop a sequel but would be hard with canon unless we get some Book perspectives. Would LOVE to play through Commander Keyes' incident with taking on the Covenant in space without an onboard AI. Awesome moment.

@ 24 - There was a news article not too long ago stating they weren't going to re-release anything like that. Unlike Square-Enix, who I still love, teases the shit out of fans with
"Hey, We might be remaking Final Fantasy 7...look at these HD Screens"
1 month later
"We're pretty sure we're not re-releasing it."
Months later
"Look at this demo!"
-
Not verbatum but that's basically what they did. I'm waiting to hear it again by years end lol

HW was a very underrated game. Would like to eventually see a sequel, and I don't even like RTS games but this one was fun.

@21 - why does it always mean if someone plays only new games it has to be that Mommy paid for them? Maybe he is 30 and rich? Or maybe he has a sugar mamma to get him all his games?
@23 - I agree, Civ Rev and Halo Wars were fantastic! I don't think Sims in 360 was a great example to to each their own
Halo Wars will always be in my collection, great game all around and unlimited playability. Blow off the dust, pop out the latest game I've been playing and throw in Halo Wars

Hmmm?
"So, on December 15th, the Halo Wars and Halo Waypoint forums will merge, but nothing else will change, meaning you can carry on playing the RTS 'til your heart's content.""

Playing halo wars was never in danger only the stat tracking was being taken offline not the online game.
