Quake Arena Arcade Fragging Xbox Live On Dec 15th

Fans of fragfests (surely that's everyone) should set aside some spare Microsoft Points next week, as Bethesda and id have confirmed that Quake Arena Arcade is coming to the Xbox Live Arcade in just a few days time.

Resurrecting the pure FPS gameplay of Quake III Arena, Quake Arena Arcade supports fragging for up to fifteen players over Xbox Live, with six game-types including Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Harvester modes. Presumably that last one doesn't involve eating a sharing platter with the family.

With 30 classic maps, twelve maps exclusive to the XBLA version, HD and widescreen support, and a new single-player campaign, Quake Arena Arcade should be a triumphant return for id's legendary franchise. Look out for Quake Arena Arcade on XBLA from December 15th. There's no word on price just yet.

  • its free on pc :(
  • price?
  • Damn, this and X-Men next week? Nice.
  • This will take me back to the good days when weapons in games used to be over the top and awesome, Turok being a prime example as well.
  • Cool. Probably gonna pick this and Raskulls up
  • Nice...something I might actually play.. Sick of all the realistic shooters, time for some awesomeness!
  • Will have to check this out. Arena was awesome.
  • I bet it's gonna be 1200 points.
  • I love Quake, but if I recall correctly, most of this is oriented in multiplayer. And I have nothing against that, but I don't want to spend $10-15 for something unless there's lots of single player too.
  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS i NEEED ITTTTTT YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS
  • @ #9 There is single player!
  • HELL YEA
  • 30 Maps!?? I'd pay 5000 for a Quake remake with 30 maps! I friggin' LOVE Bethesda.
  • @11 - Quake 3's singleplayer is essentially the multiplayer, but with bots. Now if this was Quake 2...
  • Yeah, I'm guessing it'll be 1200 points. I might get it if it's deal of the week but I'm point blank refusing to pay more than 800 for an arcade game.
  • We have Quake II & Quake IV on the 360 so why did they remove III from Quake III Arena?
  • shame its not beeing released in germany ;( -> me ubar sad
  • please be 800pts so i can afford BC vietnam too!!!
  • I'm begging for 800 MSP myself, along with XMen also at 400. Sucks completely how Canada has to buy 1400 MSP for 20 bucks, when it's worth 17.50 in Xbox Live terms.
  • I'd guess around 1200 points.
  • Is there bots in this game?
  • @19. I'd assume that this will be 1200MSP and X-Men will be 800MSP. 400 point games are a thing of the past.
  • Quake 4 life! (proud owner of the Seasoned Veteran achievement)
  • @4 Man, if Turok made its way over to the XBLA, I'd probably squeal like a little girl.
  • @24 Especially Rage Wars was a lot of Fun! Turok 3 had a lot of innovative Multiplayer Modes, though!
  • is this like quake 3? Looks like it, that game was BEAST. And YES Turok the old one of N64 with the little cool razor thing?!!!
  • X-Men Arcade is going to be 800 points. This will probably be 1200 minimum, if not 1600.
  • @ 14 You can get Quake 2 for free if you buy Quake 4.
  • #22, 400 point games are athing for sega classics
  • just might have to pick this up
  • I miss quake 1 :
  • This game will be epic for sure
  • Do I still need Quake 4 to get this for free? Or just to have previously owned it?
  • Man they picked a bad time to release this. No word on this game for like 4 years and suddenly it's coming out just like that with no info on the fact that they were adding new stuff until the week before it's unexpected release. Coming out of nowhere on the same day as the long-awaited (18 years lol) release of the X-Men arcade game and a week before people get a bunch of Christmas presents is not the brightest idea. I want to get this game, but I'm probably going to wait a bit because of everything else, I hope there will be a decent community for this.
  • Awersome!!! Great game! I can't wait to get my hand on this!!! =)
  • This is awesome, everything is shaping up nicely, more than likely will be 1200 though with 40+ maps, oh well. I adored this game many years ago (Well Quake 3 Arena that is) Just like I adored games like the old UT games, Doom and all the old FPS daddy's! More recently I enjoyed Quake Live so this should be just as good, if not better (albeit on a console), I agree with #34 I hope to god this gets a strong enough community to last more than a month or 2. By the way, this new comment feature is also awesome! First time I noticed :)
  • #36, same here, need to go thumb up somebody wait that sounded bad. lol
  • Can't wait to pick this up!
  • In the wise words of M. Bison. YES!! YES!!!!!
  • pretty cool!
  • wow they're are a lot of misinformed people out there. this game is basically quake 3 (arena). it is not quake 4. Q3A was released before Q4. it was highly influential game in many ways, to the fps in general and most of all to the competitive gaming sports. free is never free. quake 3 (arena) is not free on pc, but quake live is. quake live is a dumbed-down version of q3a, less maps, less modes (unless you pay), lots of lag (in my experience), and also a lot of computers have problems running it. so if your a lucky one who has a setup to play perfectly with no lag, then yeah it might be fun for a little bit to play a stripped down version for free. this one for XBLA is essentially a remake of Q3A. it's confirmed to have more maps (even then the original), more modes then quake live. it sounds to have a better matchmaking but we'll see, and it's not released for computers so you'll know you're 360 will play it. unless you own the original Q3A, i'd say get the XBLA version if you can.
  • great game and all, but kinda hard to justify spending (most likely) 1200 microsoft fun bucks on a game i can play for free on my PC.
  • I'd like to see turoks evolutions mutiplayer earn the same treatment. I used to play splitscreen with my bro and the maps and weapons were awesome.
  • Quake!!
  • @19 $20 in Canadian monopoly money? That's like Intergalactic Credits to Watto here in U.S..
  • If it's 800 points I'm tempted to get this.
  • Dope cant wait this will be sick online u will need skills to play this now can we get a counter strike on the 360 xbox needs a challenging online fps
  • damn quake and x-men? sounds good
  • i will pay 1200 for this no problem. can't wait.
  • FINALLY!!! I've been waiting for Q3A for such a long time! I remember playing this in Jr. High, thinking how much fun it was just gets me on edge for this. I'll easily pay 1200 no problem.
  • i remember playing quake 3 in the 7th/8th grade in IPT class haha
  • I only have 800 MS points, and that is for Dead Money. Maybe for x-mas.
  • I'll give this a pass i've got Quake 3 for PC..
  • Even after all these years, this is still an awesome game!
  • @1 Yes it's free on PC for basic version but you have to pay of you want more stuff on game on PC
  • @14 It is saying it has a new singleplayer. Don't judge till you get details
  • I'm so excited for this, ready for the craziness!
  • telling us the price would help a lot more you know. if they can put this in the XBLA, then i hope they remake the first quake.
  • looks lke alot of fun...come on 800 msp
