Mass Effect 2 DLC Still Coming As BioWare Look to Power Down the Cerberus Daily News
Written By
View author's profile

Those who had feared that BioWare had simply forgotten about Mass Effect 2 - our Game of the Year 2010 - now that they've announced the finale in their trilogy can sleep soundly in their bed tonight.

Over on the Cerberus Daily News channel, within the main menu of Mass Effect 2, BioWare has announced that they plan to cease their in-game daily news updates on January 24th. Aside from that, Mass Effect 2 players can expect a week of news posts leading up to "a downloadable content release" as well as an additional two weeks prior to Mass Effect 3's launch.

Considering that Mass Effect 2's DLC has been getting progressively better - in fact, we actually awarded Lair of the Shadow our DLC episode of the year - and with it sounding like there is one piece of DLC left, here's hoping it's an Awakening-sized expansion. You know, one that will bridge the gap between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. If not, we'll take a Bully-esque expansion where Shepard gets his kicks causing trouble around the schoolyard, told through a series of flashbacks.

Love to see a game actually being supported by its developer. Im always more likely to buy if its from a developer who actually cares about their customers.

It's a damn shame that there is gonna be one more DLC pack left for ME2. I could've sworn BioWare said that they would support Mass Effect 2 along the lines of Dragon Age, but I guess the priority of ME3/DA2/The Old Republic made them change their minds. Either way I'm looking forward to this final piece of DLC, hopefully it will bridge ME2 to ME3 as that would be just swell.

I would love to see them Capturing a reaper and upgrading the SR2 to reaper destroyer class. And defo bring Ashley/Kaidan back for a mission or two. Love mass effect and the way its developed.

I really enjoy the Mass Effect series. I hope Bioware expands the story missions better for part three more instead of filler side missions or loyalty missions. Since they're some what optional it makes the game feel shorter since they don't actually serve as a main story plot just usually back story.

Definitely an improvement over part one but at least it was straight to the point which was Your introduction on The Normandy, Eden Prime, Back on the Normandy, The Citadel, Find Liara, Feros, Noveria, Research Facility, Virmire, The Citadel, Ilos, Back at the Citadel to Confront Saren.

DOH! I just sold it back yesterday. It'll be worth re-buying as long as the final GS total is even - not a fan of 1255. Seriously though, here's to hoping for an Awakenings-sized stand-alone.

I was hoping there would be more, I loved the amount of time and effort they put into Dragon Age, it's a shame they didn't do the same for ME2, I would have loved to see how they would have 1750'd the game.

I played Mass Effect backwards lol. Played part 1 when it came out, hated it, played part 2, loved it. Now I'm playing part 1 again so I can beat it and then play part 2 in preparation for Mass Effect 3!

Wait I thought it meant there would be a week of news sometime after the service shut down leading up to a DLC release and then another DLC release 2 weeks before launch, but only 1 piece of DLC? :( it better be awakening sized. Would be ever better if they had one big piece like that and then another around the size of lair of the shadow broker... then I could truly sleep well at night.

What ever happened to all the DLC they promised? I seem to remember them saying they were releasing a LOT of DLC before Mass Effect 3. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really "count" anything but Kasumi, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker as legitimate DLC add-ons. Further, I do not consider four pieces of DLC "a lot"...

Oh also, this article confused me a bit with its wording - reading it, I had thought we'd be ending the daily updates in January; the last day of updates yielding a new DLC. Then, when it said "an additional" a few weeks prior to Mass Effect 3 or whatever, I thought it was referring to DLC. So I was under the impression that we would be getting two more DLCs - one at the end of the month, and one right before Mass Effect 3 - and that the daily news would end permanently in January. I don't know if I need to read more carefully, or if you need to change the wording, but when I went to the source link, it cleared it up for me... So I'd check the wording, Webb, and see if it could be misinterpreted or if I just suck monkey balls.

I don't know where you came up with that idea, but it sounds awesome. I would be all over that too. Holy shit. I'm actually kinda sad that something like that isn't coming now.

@18: How many do you consider to be "a lot" then? Furthermore, if they said there would be "a lot of DLC", then I see that delivered. Weapon and costume packs ARE DLC. It's new content that you download, hence "downloadable content" or DLC. If they only promised "a lot of DLC" then they have fulfilled their obligation. If they promised "a lot of new missions", then maybe you would have a case. But then it would go back to my first question, which is how much you would consider to be a lot.

@30 It also includes a load of free weapons/armours as well as the Normandy Crash Site side mission.

OT: Im guessing it will finally be the bridge between Mass Effect 2 and 3. I remember seeing one of their videos about DLC where they stated they would be releasing a bridge DLC closer to Mass Effect 3 because they didnt want to bring out DLC that would spoil it for the people that were only just getting around to playing Mass Effect 2 as it was alot closer to its original release date at the time.

Heres hoping it is :)

If you like the Cerberus Daily News (like me), you should check cerberusdailynews.com It's a fansite where the daily news is posted every day and you can comment on them in-character (so don't get confused, it's a role playing forum). The founder is considering to post his own (canon) news (nothing major, just events that have nothing to do with the main story, but still are accurate in the ME galaxy).

considering that both Dragons age and Mass effect are bioware and published by EA I wouldn't bet against the last dlc being an 'Awaken' size download

The fuck? Only one more left? Like you said, Webby..... It damn well better be Awakening-zized. This is no where near the level of support they promised. I'll be seriously disappointed if they stop after the next. Hell. It';s been months since Shadow Broker. And we haven't even had a weapon or appearance pack since then. Unnacepptable, Bioware.

Wow, I still can;t understand how Lair got DLC of the year award with at least 3 other bigger, better and much more replayable DLC's out there (General Knoxx, Undead Nightmare, etc), but it's Dan's mania over ME that judged this one in the end. Sure it was awesome, but pretty much straightforward and beatable in 2 to 3 hours on hardcore....

OT: I sure hope this will be on par with Lair^^

Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid but I am new to ME2. Basically my question is this, is there any point is purchasing the Cerebrus DLC for 1200MP? I purchased a used version of the game which obviously no longer contained the code to gain access. Is it now just a case of 1200MP for the Zaeed missions?

@29: I don't remember the exact wording, but I do know the impression it gave me: Massive support through several mission-sized DLCs. I remember how they described the DLCs; bridging the gap between ME2 and ME3, so I don't believe the weapons packs (etc) would apply. I also remember them describing three stages of DLC releases: The first would assume you haven't completed the game, and would give you tools to help you. They described these as a few more characters (Zaeed, Kasumi). Then they said that they would gradually assume that the majority of players had finished the game, and set the stage for narrative-focused DLC by releasing things like Overlord. They said it would then fully transition into several DLCs bridging the gap between the two games. Now, I don't know about anybody else here, but I haven't really seen ANY "bridging the gap" DLC. You could argue Shadow Broker was, but I'll have to see how that mission sets a foundation for ME3 before I judge how well it bridges a gap. No, all I know is that Bioware has done a lousy job fulfilling their promise here. What they have released has been excellent, but they haven't released much substantial.

Im rather new to ME2 (been playing it for only a week) and want a little explanation for the "cerebrus network". What is it? Is it a DLC with achievements or just a central for Weapons and gadgets?

So far i've been playing, it's a great game! And more DLC = this game last longer :D Im right now preparing for my Suicide mission and my insane run, does any DLC or "cerebrus network" help me with this? Thx all!

I certainly hope that this next DLC installment will be an Awakenings sized expansion pack. While Lair of the Shadow Broker was a good sized DLC and it took me a good 3 hours to complete on Insanity, I'd like something bigger and longer to complete. It'd also be nice if it certainly fills in the gap between 2 and 3, since the other DLC hasn't or at least we won't know how Liara being the new Shadow Broker will play out in ME3.

i am a massive mass effect fan and im sry to say this but not this time bioware, not again will i waste my money on dlc a year after the games release i would have even accepted dlc similar to dragon ages but oh thats right they forgot about mass effect, sry to say im just not that interested anymore in dlc from them judging by delays and pricing things will be the same like another 15 point achievement for 800 msp pffff please not me sry have at it you guys its the only reason they keep overpricing dlc.
