Marvel's X-Men certainly have it tough, being put through the wringer in more than their fair share of crises over the years. X-Men: Destiny will be no different it seems, as revealed in the first details in this month's Official Xbox Magazine UK, which has a four-page preview of Activision and Silicon Knights' forthcoming X-Men title.
According to the preview, the Too Human developer is placing a great deal of emphasis upon the "tough decisions that an average X-Man has to make", which should be all the more potent given that X-Men: Destiny is to be set amid a backdrop where anti-mutant sentiment has hit an incendiary high, meaning that hate crimes are rife and the X-Men are seen as a major threat to society.
This is made all the more potent when the X-Men suffer a devastating loss, which will shape some of the game's scenarios. You'll assume the role of the child of a "human zealot" who believes that mutants are "nature's greatest mistake". You'll also be able to choose from three different X-Men candidates, all of whom have been officially introduced into the X-Men canon.
Of course, you'll interact with and encounter a number of familiar X-Men faces including Magneto, his son Quicksilver, Gambit, Surge, Wolverine and Cyclops. You'll also gather 'X-Genes' that enable you to enhance your mutant's powers, by collecting the genes of fellow mutants.
There's no date for X-Men: Destiny just yet, but we're hoping that Silicon Knights manages to deliver it in timely fashion, unlike Too Human, which took forever to arrive on Xbox 360, you might recall. Fingers crossed for a 2011 release then. Check out the VGA teaser below.
