According to a report on Swedish blog V!cachu, EA has put Mirror's Edge 2 on hold. The report claims that EA had shown an internal prototype of the sequel, but the developers at DICE have apparently moved on to work on something else, meaning that "the project has stalled", according to a Google translation of the article.
Mirror's Edge released in 2008 to a generally positive critical reception, but it failed to translate that buzz into sales, which might be why EA and DICE are somewhat apprehensive in approaching a follow-up.
DICE's Patrick Soderlund told the blog that Mirror's Edge is something close to his heart, but claimed that a sequel could be a big risk that could still leave the buying public cold. At least that's what we've gleaned from the translation.
Now we don't know about you, but Mirror's Edge was an interesting game that could make for a dynamite sequel. But in its Battlefield franchise, DICE has a safe bet. Is developing Mirror's Edge 2 worth the risk? Let's hope that DICE eventually thinks so. Watch this space.
