World War II-based RTS R.U.S.E. has yet another dose of DLC available from the Xbox Live Marketplace right now, with 'The Pack of the Rising Sun' which introduces the Japanese Army with 28 new units and 3 exclusive new operations wherein you'll play as the Imperial Japanese Army.

Combining ingenuity with cheap production costs, the playable Japanese faction also pack flamethrower units to flush enemies out into the open, while Zero fighter planes patrol the skies and the Shinden casts an imposing shadow over the battlefield with four rear-mounted 30mm cannons primed and ready to rain down artillery. Then there's prototypes like the AOV recon and the Ha-To long-range gun for executing surprise attacks from distance.

Here's details of the three new operations for The Pack of the Rising Sun:

  • Gold For The Brave: In this fictional challenge, gamers will play with the Kentucky National Guard, protecting the Fort Knox Federal Reserve gold until reinforcements from the 1st Armored Division arrive.
  • Ostfriesland: In this challenge, players will lead a Japanese strike force in Germany. Their objective will be to prevent the British XIIth corp. from establishing a bridgehead into their defense line. Gamers will be able to use infantry, artillery, armored forces as well as prototype weapons, but will have a limited aircraft.
  • For Honour: in this challenge, take command of a renegade division of the Imperial Air Force who refuse to lay down arms and decide to join the Japanese garrison in a desperate and hopeless fight on the island of Java. All around, US, British and Soviet forces are gathering for the ultimate offensive…

RUSE's Pack of the Rising Sun is available from the Xbox Live Marketplace right now for 800 Microsoft Points. You can add it to your download queue here.

They certainly did not, from wikipedia:

2× 7.7 mm (0.303 in) Type 97 machine guns in the engine cowling, with 500 rounds per gun.
2× 20 mm Type 99 cannons in the wings, with 60 rounds per gun.

You guys crack me up...I am a bit of a history buff, and was almost certain there was a 30mm cannon for the Zero, but to find it on the source you used to say it didn't exist was unexpected!

From wiki: A6M3 Type 0 Model 22, armed with 30 mm Type 5 Cannon, under denomination of A6M3b (model 22b)

It was a test program in the latter half of the war, but this model did see some combat...and if the devs didn't do their homework, maybe it was a simple RUSE to see who would notice!!

hmm weird, i searched the article for 30mm with my browser but didn`t find it, ah well. Wonder if the devs did this on purpose or just made them 30mm to have more powerful planes :P

Im not 100% sure but I dont think that its talking about Zeros having the 30mm cannons I think its talking about the Shinden.

"while Zero fighter planes patrol the skies"
"the Shinden casts an imposing shadow over the battlefield with four rear-mounted 30mm cannons"

@6 nice with the "RUSE" idea lol

@8, I'm glad someone read the article properly.

Also, as this was a prototype aircraft, no one can prove that the article is wrong, haha
