Medal of Honor
Medal of Honor Sequel in the Works at Danger Close
Written By
View author's profile

Formerly known as EA LA, development studio Danger Close - the folks behind the Medal of Honor reboot - is apparently hard at work on the next game in the series, building upon the relative commercial success of the last game, which sold over 5 million copies.

"Yes, Danger Close is currently working on the next Medal of Honor," Executive Producer Greg Goodrich writes on the Medal of Honor website.

"Just recently, EA announced that the reboot of Medal of Honor was a big success with over 5 million copies sold. We wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for supporting us, our new studio and our storied franchise. We would especially like to thank all of the long time Medal of Honor fans out there who have stuck with us over the years," Goodrich continues.

He also states the studio has "studied, listened and absorbed much of your feedback and are very excited to be marching forward on the next title."

So, there you go. Consider the next Medal of Honor very much a 'go'. "It's going to be a fun ride for the Medal of Honor franchise. We are happy to have you aboard," Goodrich concludes.

Yay more Epic Fail on the way!

Seriously, EA need to put this franchise on the backburner for a few years, the originals became stale and boring, the reboot into modern era was just bad, they are trying too hard to compete with CoD but they need to go back to what made the first original games great and fun.

I can't just give up on the Medal of Honor series just like you guys; I remember how Medal of Honor used to own the FPS market! I know the last game was a little dissapointing, and it was indeed just in the name of competition (against Call of Duty), but I still have hope for an otherwise successful video game franchise. Danger Close, no matter what, make a campaign that drags at least over six hours! That little blemish of a campaign did not do!

I just wish FPS would add more than the US military. More people play games in the EU than in the US, why can't our armies be shown?(Outside of the UK SAS who is in everything too). Maybe a little less propaganda too. The last game was like I was watching a US Army recruiting commercial.

Nothing any FPS developer do will beat the D-Day mission on MOH: Frontline.

Not even COD 4 could match that.

I actually really enjoyed medal of honor. Sure there was a few BS moments, but in all it was pretty good. I also think MoH is better than CoD. I think most shooter games are. People are just so use to CoD that they don't give other games a chance. Also a lot of people play CoD because that's what is popular and in. I am not saying it applies to everyone, but there is a decent amount of people who play it or buy it for that reason.

Anyways I look foward to their next game. CoD is dying thankfully and we are going to need another FPS War shooter gamer. As long as there is no Teir 1 achievement in their next game or Fire Controller, I will be happy.

Also I really hope someone makes a WW2 shooter gamer again that is online. Why not do a remake Cod 2! Now that CoD I really do love.

MoH wasn't a bad game, people are just CoD fanboys. It was far from perfect though. There was only three major gripes with the game, aside from day one server issues but that's common now sadly.

1) Lack of unlockables. No sane person will disagree that reaching max rank and unlocking a single grenade, which follows the same exact guns with a different look was stupid.

2) Different engines for SP and MP. No practice, it didn't make a lot of sense.

3) Snipers were overpowered for the fact of OHKO, and everyone can use it. Limiting the amount of snipers on a single team would be much better than making them's supposed to be a realistic game, one hit kills from a sniper are realistic. Having 12 snipers in an offensive mission and no infantry, no.

Other issues are people bitching about "lag" because you die in two shots (Realism?) and how hard it was to get a killstreak? Suck less and try to keep in mind not every ground soldier can call in a tomahawk missle.

If EA can fix these issues (and for the love of god, keep the Dirka Tomahawk!) they'll have a fantastic MP.

It would be nice if they really did listen to the 5 million helpless souls who paid for the game and improve on the good things that were in the reboot. bigger maps would be nice for one thing, it's total BS to get pinned down in your spawn at least do me a favor and spawn me in a different spot instead of closest to my just killed squadmate.

as for the single player it told an ok story but there was really no substance to the story.

The reason people don't like this multiplayer is that it is more that of a simulator than an arcade. Your health restores slower and fewer bullets kill you, more like COD's hardcore, and therefore it is a 'bad game'.

MoH reboot had one of the more enjoyable campaigns I have played in a fps. Online was a joke. Whoever said call of duty is dying is delusional. Both the last two game has broken all sorts of sales records.

That said, I doubt I'll bother picking up the next medal of honor. Brink and battlefield 3 will likely soak up my fps needs for the next couple years, with black ops thrown in once and a while

Also, not a chance in he'll respawn is going to get the cod/mw brand name. Activation owns it. What there trying to get is the money owed them.

It would be interesting to see respawn do medal of honor, seeing as the people there started the series before starting infinity ward.

What I really enjoyed about Medal of Honor is that it was inspired by an actual ongoing war, with real soldiers. None of the other major modern first person shooters can claim any such attribute. That probably doesn't matter a lot to some people, but I've always thought about how Battlefield and Call of Duty continuously make modern games, but instead of making it based on the Iraq War or the War in Afghanistan, etc, they make it a near future war with many elements of today's conflict. And I think to myself, why? What's the point?

That being said, Medal of Honor was not as good of a game as Battlefield Bad Company 2 (I don't play CoD, so that's my closest comparison). But it did have enjoyable elements. The factuality, or maybe historical fictionality, of the game was the icing on the cake for me, but I do like the fast paced multiplayer and the campaign's emotional buildup. I was playing Halo Reach at the time so it was a nice contrast and a huge change of pace, just what I needed. The problem for me is that I didn't want to come back for more. I borrowed my father's copy a couple times, and have had no yearning to come back to it or finish the achievements.

There are things that can be done a lot better. The basis is there though, and I'm up for a sequel.

The US military has one of the highest friendly fire rates, atrocity rates, and hell, British Territorial units beat the USMC in several wargames in the last few years. Territorials are the UK version of the US national Guard. US troops rape and pillage pretty much everywhere they go(Why do you think the US is hated by pretty much the whole world, the US acts like the Soviets of old) and the US had more casualties in the Gulf War due to friendly fire than enemy fire(As did the UK. A Regiment was hit hard by US A-10s). The Armies of the EU are much more professional and if in a unified force of the EU, could easily match the US).

@46 America in theory is 50 countries that instead of being independent like Europe are just one big 'Country' And oh yeah America is Europe we bred you :)

@43 Nice help in WWI and joining a war at the end hardly counts, the only war tye US has been on without the full aid of the EU was Nam, and we all know how that worked out. UK had the Falklands and although a horrible war like most we still won without America.

On topic MoH was a good game and definitely better than any Cod game, the modern day gamer claims any game is shit that dosnt throw cheevo or checkpoints at you every five minutes.

I thought the single player was absolute shite, the apache machine gun looked and felt shite too which really took away the fun of the game. Poor AI and other issues need to be addressed.

However the multiplayer I actually really enjoyed and is one of the few online games I bother to max out my rank. The sniping was very good in my opinion the only downside to the MP was the small map size and lack of different weapons, abilities and attachments.

Would be more interested if they left the unreal engine behind and just used DICE's frostbite 2.0...

I really enjoyed the MP portion but the SP was pretty bad (graphics and gameplay wise). Hope they stick with one Developer or at least have some kind of communication between the 2 Developers. They felt like 2 different games, or even 2 different console generations.

Let them learn from the criticism and mistakes from the 2010 game and improve the next.

Loved the single-player campaign for MoH, hated the multiplayer. Seriously, it seems weird to say this, but DICE needs to stay the fuck away from this franchise. It was obvious they had their B-team working on MOH's multiplayer while the studio was focused on the Vietnam expansion for BC2 and Battlefield 3. I'd rather have a consistent feel between the single-player and multiplayer and just have Danger Close develop both, including features from the single-player like prone, leaning, selectable fire modes, etc. Oh, and bring back the breathing control for sniping from MoH: Airbourne, it was so much better than clicking the stick.

#54 - The spawn camping, the one thing you point out as something you liked about Medal of Honor MP, was pretty much the most glaringly imbalanced and annoying aspect of the game's MP that virtually everybody hated.

well im super excited. no matter what anyone thinks, i thought they did a good job. yeah it could of been better in somethings, but all in all it was really good for being the first MOH in awhile. and the spin on the modern era is what everyone wants. i mean hasn't everyone played a world war 2 game, we have all stormed the beach of Normandy about a hundred times in about a billion world war 2 games. so im glad that MOH is going to make a second addition. just let me have a few months to play Battlefield 3 for a few months before releasing.

Anyone who took my comment seriously has no sense of humor. WW2 could not have been won without US help, but the us also needed european military support. In WW1 the Americans came in at the end of the war which broke the stalemate between the French and German armies.

Back on topic here, I thinks it's great a sequel is being made, however, they better not half-ass the multiplayer compared to bad company 2.

just make the campaign longer, and harder. it was easily one of the shortest campaigns i've played, and the hard difficulty was laughably easy. the mp was a nice mix of cod and bf, but i didn't play more than 3 matches of it as none of my friends picked the game up.

There is no better army unless Chinese they'l recruit anything with legs, US are to trigger happy and the EU have lost their share of wars, so stop the bitching and talk about something on topic.

Hopefully this game is better and longer than the first.

I greatly enjoyed MoH's singleplayer campaign. So I'm exited about the sequel. MP was fun at first but somehow became little boring in a while. I'm sure the sequel will be even better on both campaign and multiplayer.

Thought DICE should have just done the whole game not just MP & dont know what people want or what they were expecting but personally think its brilliant. Very much team based like Bad Company ( if you dont talk your gonna lose).Dont get me wrong there is faults there is with every game! I only play combat mission as it is like BC & the others end just to soon & they should have bought out more maps for this.but loved the concept & the feel of this game & made it a nice in betweener to cod & BC so i say good luck for Danger Close & look forward to the next one. Now please give me more maps! 8-)

The first one was average at best, the story was very ho-hum, seen it all before and the multiplayer was very frustrating to say the least. Can't see this new one being any different to be honest.

I very much enjoyed the single player of the first modern MoH. There is always room for improvement. But it was good none the less.

MP is what was messed up. The guns were very limited. And the it was wayy to easy for the anklets to spawn rape ppl.

I will pick up this none the less =]

hopefully this one doesnt feel generic it sort of felt like the Gobots sort of like a transformer but not quite there. I was just sort of upset with Kmart qualities it would have been 9.99 from the get go. I am not asking much just for some more story or something that makes you feel like your actually acomplishing something instead of whatever that was. I was fighting off sleep while playing this one almost made my stint in Iraq would be a better game. If I hear Activision makes my life into a game I am suing. Call of Duty Modern Water Delivery got to dodge aircraft and dumb drivers while driving a 10k AT forklift with 2 pallets of water with out losing a load. throw in random rocket and mortar attacks for ambience. now that will be realism. I know I know all you gun nuts out there you will get to have my M9 and M16A2 with 30 rounds each that get to stay in their holster or in the back of the forklift the whole time only to get cleared while going to the chowhall. Or you can enjoy the super realism of cleaning them. ok maybe I got a little out of hand here but come on at least the game I talked about that was based on true life events would be more exciting then that game. The Sequel will be a supply troop simulator

The reason there was a "success" of 5 million copies sold was that people thought it was going to be good, or a good game to play before Black Ops. So all the people that first day bought, and midnight released....roughly about 5 million copies. (Seeing as Black Ops had about 7 million copies first day sold....) But before the word got out that this game was bad, the damage was done, hopefully people will learn and not buy the sequel. (Or if they ditch DICE)

Did anyone ever play Day of Defeat Source on the PC (by Valve, no less)? It's a WW2 shooter (started out as a mod for Half-Life) that's just like the gametype War in the Treyarch CoD's. But, in DoD, you have 4-6 classes to choose from as far as weapons, but there is a limit as to how many a team could have. They had rifleman, assault, support, sniper, machine gunner and rockets. There were up to 12 people on a team. Once the slot was filled on say sniper (I think you could have up to 3 of each class on a team at one time), you had to pick another class. You could change classes each time you died, but there was always a set amount of classes you could have in a game. I don't know why other companies haven't tried that out. It makes the game more balanced and fun. Below is an example of the win/loss for both the Allies and Axis, and as you can see, they're pretty even.

@46 You do realise the US stands for United States right? Many states which are the size of individual countries which co-operate under one name... Oh look just like the European union.. Besides the European union does not have a Unified military. Why dont you all stop bitching about each country as you will find most of the EU are members of NATO and so are the US...

So why not make games involving more of NATO forces rather than just the US and the SAS. Also the need to hate on the French military is pretty stupid now, they are becoming quite the military power(Even more with the partnerships with the UK) and you will find the French resistance in the war was also key to helping Allied forces even step foot on European soil.

@71 The US are not trigger happy, sure they have more soldiers deployed in Iraq so they are more likely to become involved in a bit of friendly fire and accidental civilian casualties but that doesn't mean they are trigger happy.

You can say the EU has lost many wars but they have rarely ever fought as one. They fought individually and generally against each other, we just have more history than most places to look at.
Im English by the way(Yes some of us stick up for the US, sometimes)

We sold 5 million copies blah blah blah. I got suckered into buying the game when it first came out just like everyone else. Wish I never bought it. The game meant well, but did not execute. Trying to be Call of Duty, trying to be Battlefield, but FAILING and being neither. It should try to be Medal of Honor.

If it did so well how come when I went to Best Buy only to see it already down to $39.99 and an entire shelf is full of them? Answer: No one is buying the game because word of mouth says the game sucks. Oh and Limited Edition? It's the only edition I see. The only reason I held on to the game is for the Battlefield 3 beta.

Wow, I didn't mean to start a flame war. I wasn't trying to bash the US, just saying I would like to see more nations in ADDITION to the US. And come on guys(Fellow Europeans), we all know that the Americans broke the deadlock of WWI. Yes it was at the end, but we(The British Army) were exhausted from Passchendaele and the French were just recovering from the mutinies. Russia was out and Italy was retreating from the Austro-Hungarians. The Americans added new blood and maybe more importantly, boosted the ALLIES(You know, the thing we are still supposed to be) moral.

As for two, yes the Yanks were late, but by no means did they come in at the end. As proud a Brit as I am, there is no way we had the manpower to invade and hold Italy and France/Low countries without the US. If you want to congratulate anyone for defeating the Nazis, it was the USSR. The Eastern Front was the largest warzone in history. And besides, they pretty much destroyed the Japanese Navy and Army(Along with China).

I think it is just a fad these days to hate the US, so people now try to undercut its accomplishments, while over embellish its failures. Like @33. All nations have committed atrocities and all have had friendly fire accidents, even us.

MoH was a decent game, but competing with CoD and BF makes it look and feel second rate. SP was ok, but mp was too unbalanced and felt like a watered down Battlefield. Maybe they will take all the criticism into account and put out an improved game. I was very suprised at 5 million sold.

Oh no... I didn't realize so many people bought this garbage. The single player was a stale, sandy, shooting gallery. The MP was BC2 minus the depth, vehicles, variety, and fun; and the entire package, as a whole, was somewhat offensive, especially considering the "respect and authenticity" that was supposedly involved in the development (to the guy who suggested they label the other team as "Taliban," way to keep it classy, you stupid bastard). By pretending to pay honor to the real men and women who are out there, they really succeeded in just the opposite. Hell, at least MW2 didn't try to portray any real conflicts; by completely avoiding potentially offensive scenarios, they simultaneously injected infinitely more variety to the environments and story.

@ 57 Read properly arsehole, where in my comment do I mention 'spawn' or 'camping'!?

One hit kills from sniping is realistic and everyone can do it so how is it unbalanced? It's not like you get sniped by a guy with one shot, respawn as a sniper and have to shoot him 3 times is it now!? Twat.

From my experience the teams were always well balanced between smokers and infantry, usually with only 2 or 3 snipers at any one time.

As always when it comes to popular multiplayer games, don't blame the game, blame yourself. I know in any game when playing sniper class, I pop maybe one or two people then relocate. If others don't do the same then rather than bitch you should get good/intelligent enough to flank them. Or do us all a favour and fuck off and stop playing altogether...

FPS' are to this gen as platformers were to the NES era. They're what's selling. EA has every right to release two love children in a single year because it'll sell extremely well as long as they market right and set them apart.

IE, releasing Bad Company 3 very close to MoH will be a terrible business call. As will releasing either very close to the next CoD. BC3 can stand a chance against CoD though; MoH would get smothered, unfortunately.

Last I checked this was a European website, and last I checked America and Europe were better buddies than Spongebob and Patrick. So for any European gamer to badmouth America or any American gamer to badmouth Europe, is just plain retarded and you should be ashamed of yourself. Because when WWIII comes and goes, we'll all be standing side-by-side in the ashes of our enemies. Because unified we are the greatest threat ever to walk this great planet. 'Nuff said.

Speaking as a former serviceman, I really enjoyed the reboot. The campaign may have been short, but it was still a great game. The relationship between the characters gives an actual sense of brotherhood, something you don't get in most of the other military shooters. The ending was fantastic and I will definitely be picking up the next game. Plus, if you give the multiplayer an actual chance, it grows on you quite a bit. What the next game needs is a longer campaign and less sniper-friendly maps for the multiplayer. Fix those things and the next MoH will be a good contender.

Why all this hating between countries? Especially over a pretty lame game. Soldiers, no matter where they're from deserve respect. They believe what they are doing is right and put their lives on the line while we play freaking video games. Governments may have side agendas and crooked reasons, but your soldiers stand strong for you and your families. They defend you so you should at least do the same.

As someone who was extremely excited for this reboot due to Medal of Honor (PS1) being my first FPS ever, I walked away from the game...disgusted. This reboot...well, like many others here, the SP was lackluster. Too short, too "robotic" (meaning the game feels like its holding your hand), and way too "been there, done that." The MP...was fair at best, especially in Combat Mission, and horrible at it's worst a la Team Assault. Spawn camping, unbalanced gunplay, lack of depth, and well...the next one a non-buy. Too much wrong the first time around for me to plunge another $60.

MoH has terrible could the characters look any more generic. All the Military guys looked the same with just slightly different skin tone hard to believe DICE has a hand in that as BF2 was awesome. No offence but EA hyped this rubbish out of the game so people rushed to buy it in anticipation it would rival CoD but it failed to deliver the goods so now I don't think the next one even sell 2 million yet alone 5.

what we need is a longer campaign + balanced wepons in multiplayer...

oh yeah i just want to say that there view on sniper rifles is perfect, thers no way you could survive a shot from one of those within 300m to the chest area,i know because i shoot them all the time what they need to do is give more cover that what was lacking in this game, kandahar marketplace was a good cover to cover map soo was the map kabul city ruins.
when i said balanced wepons i meant some of those SMG's,their high rate of fire and stopping power fucking made it impossible to win 1v1 with an assault rifle.

the sequal should include Cover, balance (overall) and maybe a mode that involves air vehicals and land vehicals...

I liked the first enough to rent the new one when it becomes available. I agree the campaign was good, yet rather short and the MP was terrible.
With that said, anyone who thinks there's a better FPS franchise than CoD (Modern Warfare especially) is an idiot.
