Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon
Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Buzzing In July

EDF! EDF! EDF! Ahem, excuse me. Got lost in the fervor there for a second. You'll understand my excitement though, as Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon has finally received a conrete release date, via the game's Facebook page. Originally slated for "Spring" and tacked for March 1st by most retailers, the game was pushed back for unknown reasons, though presumably to put polish on the GOTY 2011 we all know it will be... But seriously, I actually hope not too much polish went into it, because to me, what made 2017 so endearing was the simplicity. Pick your guns, find a good strategy... profit! But judging by the game's $40 price tag, marking it as a budget title, we should see that old charm in full effect come July. On top of a 3-player Live-enabled campaign, 6-player "Survival" game mode, 150+ weapons, new enemies, four customizable armor sets, jetpacks and optimized vehicles, there really isn't much more to ask for.

Get ready to blow up some cities and maybe even kill a few bugs and robots on July 5th in North America. No European release date is known at this time.

I cannot wait for this game. I fell in love with the first one the moment I started playing it. And even though it seems like they polished it and added some stuff, it seems like they're still keeping the simplicity and B-movie quality that made the first one so amazing. And hopefully the voice acting is just as terrible.

If they go to all this length to get 3 player co-op in, but make the campaign achievements single-player only, I will not be a happy bunny. I loved 2017 and wished for nothing more than it to have online modes. Now that wish has been granted, I hope they don't follow the examples of Doom, Perfect Dark et al by making it effectively pointless playing.

I know I'm gonna get mega thumbed down by all the fanboys here but I really don't see the appeal with this. For me the first one tops the list as one of the worst games I've ever had the misfortune of putting in my xbox. Rubbish graphics/controls/AI and terrible achievements as well, I just can't see what on earth's worth getting excited about. With great things like L.A. Noire, Deus Ex and Skyrim coming out this year games like this just can't compete. Chances are it's just going to be the same small group of strange people buying this who were somehow romanced by that weird "crap is good" mentality that so often creates cult followings. Each to their own and all that, personally I'll be waiting for the "good is good" stuff.

@5: To me, it all boils down to how much fun you have with something. Some games are so crap, they're unplayable and you just can't enjoy the time you spend on it. EDF: 2017 on the other hand, it's so "bad" that it's good. It's mindless explosions and goo splurging out of bugs. It's ridiculousness like the top half of your character's body NEVER moving. The quotes and voice acting are ridiculous... But, when I sit down to play it, especially with a friend, I have loads of fun. That's a good game in my book. Now being able to do so with that same friend who now lives an hour away, and our best friend who moved to Nashville (9 hours away) after high school? July can't come fast enough.

@7: Agreed. You can't have steak for every meal, sometimes you need some PB&J, which is exactly what EDF is. I loved 2017 despite the "unpolished" aspects of it and am very much looking forward to the chatter from expendable squad members!

@8 & 9: I totally agree. That was the perfect way to explain why people will tend to like shabby games. That's why I like Dynasty Warriors; its my PB&J between my steak dinners. :)

@#7, I think thats exactly where my problem was with the first, I just didn't enjoy it. I found the whole experience trully mind-numbingly painful, going with #8's analogy, for me it couldn't even be considered foodstuff. If I'm honest, the only reason I made it to through to the end was that I didn't realise I could hide the game at the time so didn't want it sat there with 0g.
I get that people like it for it's cheapness I just don't get why. I suppose it's the same as trying to explain to a original Doctor Who fan that the sets are a bit dodgy and the alien look like a dude in a dodgy mask. 'Tis irrelevant.

@14 Everyone likes games that are "bad." Just because you couldn't stomach EDF 2017 doesn't mean there aren't games out there that you enjoyed that are generally considered "bad." Like my example above, I frequently get criticized for enjoying the Dynasty Warriors series, and just say to them that there are hundreds more games out there with so much more to enjoy than the games that get all the praise. I have someone in my clan that will absolutely refuse to play a game unless it was at least nominated GOTY. I pity him.

I haven't played any of the EDF games yet, but can completely agree with a lot of the posts...I have been playing the DW and KOEI games for decades, and one of my all time great "suck games" is Raven Squad. It's glitchy as hell, has terrible dialogue and graphics, but has online co-op, and is so very bad that it is great fun!

I liked the first game so much even though when I started playing it I hated to wanna play it lol I don't know. The game is just so dumb/easy/addicting that it makes you wanna keep playing!

I even got scared a few times when big bugs would pop out of no where and especially those damn spiders, god I hated those. I never wanted to get near the damn spiders, they were so realistic looking it was scary lol. ahhh the memories, it was a fun rental and I can't wait to buy the new one!

Other than playing the same level over and over and over,etc... to get a Lysander Z to drop, the original game was mindless greatness. It was perfect for a quick couch co-op with a friend and all you had to do was run and shoot. I hope they don't change too much.

I loved the first game. It was highly underrated.
I greatly anticipate playing this game. I hope the co-op is a good as the 1st game, but available over XBox Live, which I'm sure it will be.

2017 was class in an awful way and I mostly put it down to split screen play. Will not be buying it without it, shocking they have taken it out!

My eight year old son and I only have 13 more missions to beat to complete the game. Granted it will probably take another 2000 or 3000 health though...
