Screen Gems has acquired the rights to make feature films based upon Devil May Cry, Capcom's popular action-packed franchise, which is set to get a reboot courtesy of Enslaved developer Ninja Theory. Whether the movies will choose to go with classic white-haired Dante or moody Pete Doherty Dante is unknown, but the plan is to hopefully kickstart a DMC movie franchise.
Screenwriter Kyle Ward has been brought on board to spill ink on the Devil May Cry script, which reportedly sees Dante out for revenge when his mother is murdered. Naturally, there'll be demon-slaying aplenty in the films, which hope to follow in the footsteps of Screen Gems' commercially successful Resident Evil movies that scored over $580 million in global box office receipts collectively.
Capcom is keen to get behind the movie franchise, following increased merchandising for Devil May Cry, including an anime series, action figures and more besides. There's no date for the Devil May Cry movie as yet, or any further details at this time.
