Well, theres enough there to get me excited for this. Hopefully this will be as good as it sounds!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 07:58 AM
I hope this is good, the first was garbage.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:01 AM
Good on them for saying their MP wouldn't compare to other MP's out there. Means they can focus more on the campaign.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:03 AM
The first game was great but this sounds incredible! Can't wait at all. :D Especially glad they have done away with any multiplayer, it'll definitely benefit the game (and hopefully the series, should there be more Prey sequels past this one). Roll on 2012 for this release. :DMonday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:04 AM
from the acrobatics of Mirror's Edge to the "freedom of Mass Effect" and the wide-open areas of Assassin's Creed II. am sorry but they just made me happy they said it will be like the three of my most best games to play I LOVE IT. first one was nice hope this we be too.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:07 AM
"Who would pick the MP mode of Prey 2 ahead of the one in, for example, Halo Reach?" Truthfully I wish a lot of devs felt this way as little as a year ago all games had tacked on MP but at the same time I have enjoyed some MP experiences in games I was surprised with. Bioshock, Wolfenstein and believe it or not Prey all come to mind.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:14 AM
Seems like the perfect concept. If you can't be original, copy from the best!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:16 AM
All sounds great and i hope combining so many games qualitys into 1 game works out as id hope it dos'nt end up just feeling like playing these games again, it needs its own personality. The best news there though is finally a dev/publisher has said no to shoehorning multiplayer into a game to make a fast buck and choose to concentrate soley on the campaign. If they can show that not every game needs fuckin multiplayer we could see the return of some quality story telling like rocksteady are gonna do with batman, and bioware with ME3 and bethesda with Skyrim.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:18 AM
I liked the MP in Prey except that it was very laggy. If they had fixed the lag, it would have been top notch.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:19 AM
nice of them to be honest with the mp, if only other developers would be so honest.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:21 AM
If I see that bloooooody spirit world!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:21 AM
A cover system like Killzone 2? I hope not.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:27 AM
Am I the only one who liked the first game and couldn't wait for a sequel and then we get this game which sounds nothing like the original and even has all new..... well everything?! I personally don't think this sounds appealing at all, I was hoping for more like the first game. As for MP I could care less, I mostly play single player games anyway and hate playing MP, unless you have a group of friends. But usually we are all tied up in our own games that we don't have time for MP anyway. Plus the more MP they add to games nowadays the less single player/story we get now :(Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:29 AM
"Hett efterlängtade uppföjare". Yeah, right.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:30 AM
What is Sam Fischer doing with a tuque and futuristic guns? Is Human Head intending on inspiring themselves from every known game? Oh snap.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:33 AM
I liked the first Prey, but it gave me so many headaches (literally). The whole portal thing always has, which is why I never bothered with Orange Box. Anywho, this game sounds great, and definitely sounds like a huge leap forward compared to Prey. My only concern is when they say "Freedom of Mass Effect", I hope they're referring to the first and not the second. The fact that they're deliberately choosing not to add Multiplayer gets two RSI suffering thumbs up from me.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:35 AM
FINALLY a company that is dedicated to making a good SP game instead of thinking they can actually make a dent in the current FPS MP market!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:37 AM
No Tommy,no Prey....Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:37 AM
Wow sounds like a new game more than a sequel....which is NOT a bad thing. But IMO the first game wasn't terrible.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:39 AM
First Prey was awesome (@2=Idiot)!! Online was laggy but so much fun, and so much time spent on that thing. awesomeness. i dont plan on buying it, i never buy games nowadays until they go down in price. should be a good one though.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 08:55 AM
@15 You're right. That single strap tote with the light on it is Sammy Fish all the way. I'm excited to see a game like this. If all the features mentioned above are executed properly they'e got all the ingredients to a successful franchise.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:17 AM
I'm feeling a little apprehensive given the massive changes compared to the original... However the dev seems pretty confident and honest in their new direction, which I'd take to be a sign they've got something good happening, even if it is a wholesale copy of EVERY triple A title out (can't have too much of a good thing, right?)Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:32 AM
Prey's big deal was the story, it was pretty gritty and I'm very curious to see how they'll tie it together. As a shooter it was pretty straightforward with the lone exception of the 360 degree gravity sections. Other than that it was "guy with gun shoots things". The story saved it from being just another mediocre shooter. Assassin's Creed 2, Mirror's Edge, Borderlands and Mass Effect: that's a hell of a stable of diverse influences, they're setting the bar pretty high let's see what they can do with it.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:39 AM
This sounds like an interesting game...But it doesn't sound much like Prey 1. But the games they mention as inspiration are enough to keep me interested. Looking forward to additional details....Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:42 AM
Wait, did they just basically say "Prey 2 is an amalgamation of every game ever created?" o_OMonday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:52 AM
Seriously, that last MP quote sold me the game. Why can't more developers think like that and concentrate on the single player experience? So many MP modes on the 360 die after mere weeks.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:54 AM
I have to admit, that sounds fantastic, played the fist Prey for about 20 minutes and never played it again, may have to pick it up again. But this definetly sounds amazing, can't wait for it's release.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:57 AM
awesome, but what about the ending of the 1st prey?Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:00 AM
I love to see them not including crappy multiplayer content. I love when a game maker sees their strong point is creating a top notch single player game. Leaving multiplayer out only makes for a better single player game.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:05 AM
I actually enjoyed a good bit of the first Prey. It was so campy, like a sci-fi original movie, I thought it was a well done game for a piece of new hardware like the 360. This 2nd one looks equally amazing.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:13 AM
A developer saying no to multiplayer? They must actually know what they are doing! I can't fracking wait for this game to come out.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:17 AM
Didn't really enjoy the first Pray, but I got it not long after I bought my 360 and at the time anything that wasn't Gears of War 1 sucked in my eyes. That said I love Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed (Never played Mirror's Edge), and if it's been compared to them then I might just have to keep an eye on this one.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:21 AM
Sounds awesome!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:23 AM
1st thing that poped into my mind was the bit at the start of the 1st one *Hey man you o.k? shit i guess not..* classic stuck with me since i played the 1st.. but as it been said. sounds so much more like a whole new game rather then a sequal but still. sounds fantasticMonday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:26 AM
Also I'm glad they are ignoring multiplayer. Just because Halo, CoD, Battlefield and Gears have massive fan bases for online doesn't mean every game has to waste resources trying to clone them. IMO it's much better to put all your time and money into an amazing single player experience than split it between the two and come out with a short and incomplete singe player, and a lousy multiplayer that people will leave after a week or two, and it's great to see that there are some developers who understand this too.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:29 AM
Guy looks Bad Ass...so this is going to run parelll with the first Prey, just a different side of the story?Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:47 AM
I hope it still has the level bending elements like walking on the walls, portals, & upside down enemies.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 10:59 AM
Good move on no MP. I asked and I received. But all this info sounds like they are trying too hard to make something that doesn't even remotely sound like Prey. They could make a new IP out of this for all I care! Still will save judgement until I see some of gameplay^^Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:00 AM
Finally, a developer that understands that multiplayer doesn't need to be in every game. Inspired by my two favorite games of all time, ME and AC? Count me in!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:17 AM
The best news of all is no multiplayer. Focus on the SP campaign....way more games need to adopt this model.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:30 AM
NICE! though I'm yet to finish Prey, I'll get this one. I loved the 'Ditch MP' attitude. People like this deserve respect. Hope the single player campaign makes up for it.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:30 AM
wow, sounds great.. looking forward to this.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:41 AM
Next thing you know, the games gonna get renamed Assassin's Edge-Effect LandMonday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:43 AM
Damn. Looks like they're drawing inspiration (or at least claiming to) from every single game to come out over the last 5 years for this. Too bad they seem to be taking nothing from the original Prey. But at least they know how to talk up their title. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. That guy on the cover looks more like some military hard ass than he does some County Sheriff, though. And I'm slightly disappointed that they mentioned nothing about Tommy. He was an awesome lead character. I'd much rather see him return.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:43 AM
... Like #13 said, why did they even call this game Prey 2, if everithing is different ? Why did they want to count on a existing licence wich hasn't sell herself pretty well ? The game look's indeed promising, but in no way, from the informations we have at the moment, it could be a sequel to the first Prey (except of course the beginning, but it's just an excuse to me, it could easily be changed). I think they would make this game a totally new IP and it would be much better for everyone. Anyway, it looks like interesting though.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 12:39 PM
The first one was the weirdest game i ever play... but still was fun that way... but this seems nothing compared to the first oneMonday, March 21, 2011 @ 12:53 PM
Between this and Saint's Row: The Third, I'm glad that developers are starting to realise that not every game that CAN work in multiplayer should have it, even if it's only because they know they can't compete with the big guns these days. The less bullshit tacked-on multiplayer I have to wade through to improve my gamerscore, the better.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 12:59 PM
Totally agree with #13 and #45. This sounds nothing like Prey. If they can manage to somehow mix in all these new gameplay features and tie the unique story of Prey in, I will be amazed. But sadly, this sounds like a completely new IP trying to cash in on the name of a game that didn't even sell well - though is a cult favorite of mine - which makes no sense at all...Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 01:32 PM
Am I the only one to think the guy on the cover looks like Michael Schofield (Wentworth Miller) from Prison Break?Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 02:03 PM
This doesn't sound like Prey at all. Still looking forward to it though.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 03:39 PM
@10 Im def an idiot because I thought a game was bad, grow up.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 03:47 PM
Still want to play, and right now if I had the chance! But in my opinion, Prey meant the spiritual side/indian side of Tommy... I think retelling the opening of Prey is a good idea. It was the best scene in the first game. I just wish that the story will continue with the spriritual 'world' and all. And god, give us some answers to tell us what happen with Tommy after Prey 1 !Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 04:57 PM
Ugh..was so looking forward to this until I saw the new lead character. Why switch to some cliche "bad ass" dude when the fact that Tommy was an ordinary guy just fighting to save his girlfriend made the story good, as opposed to this dude, who will clearly be trying to save the World or some shit. Lame.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 05:48 PM
Not sure I have fully understood what this has to do with Prey, aside from the title.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 06:04 PM
Tommy's story had only just begun at the ending of Prey, the game kinda has to continue on from the first since it clearly states so at the end of the first , no Tommy/Enisi/Talon = no buy. All they had to do was improve on what the first game did well (gravity puzzles/ unique weapons etc) but it just looks like they have gone back to the drawing board and said "hey lets steal things from other games and mash them together and call it Prey 2"Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 06:48 PM
This game sounds very intriguing, and I will likely purchase it, but I must admit I am displeased. While the first Prey was unpolished, it was a shooter that was unique and easy to identify amongst the large amount of space marine/war hero games. This sounds very fun, but I was hoping for a more well made sequel that drew upon the good of the old while fixing the bad.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 06:49 PM
Sorry, you lost me at 'freedom of Mass Effect', which, btw, is a pretty funny line. Main character is a Sheriff who has Faith's agility? Really? You're really going with this? OK, I just hope you know what you're doing here....Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 07:17 PM
This just throws up a ton of red flags here, another clone cover based shooter, with ripped off elements from other popular games? Right. If it wasn't Prey 2 I'd not really care so much, but discarding the native mythos and lead is a big mistake. Why in the world did they drop Tommy? The no MP is good but I really wish devs would stop the whole "we must rip off and copy everything else" thing. I will pray that Prey 2 is good, and that they bring back Tommy, we're severely under represented in games as it is! At least make Mr space marine Sheriff here Native American, we can be badass too!Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 09:47 PM
that foregoing the MP statement is the most genius thing I've heard from a developer in a long time... I love mp, and I do want games to innovate and create new MP experiences. But at the same time, its hard to beat an amazing single player or co op experience. Third game interview i've read this month where a dev decides not to include mp.Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 11:02 PM
I am a little disappointed that you don't get to be Tommy again.Tuesday, March 22, 2011 @ 04:33 AM
well i love assassin's creed 2(and only 2) and also mirrors edge, and while im not a mass effect fan there only taking the freedom aspect of it which i cant see as a bad thing. shaping up pretty wellTuesday, March 22, 2011 @ 10:04 AM
aaah...kebab walls and holes!Tuesday, March 22, 2011 @ 09:05 PM
I think that its unfair to consider the first Prey bad, given when it first came out, I thought it was a great looking game. It had a lot of elements that we now see today. As much as I can remember, it was the first game I saw that utilized portals as a way to expand an area and make fights a bit more interesting. I for one am really anxious to see how this one turns out.Monday, April 04, 2011 @ 03:06 AM
@54 Yeah, it doesn't really look like the first title...
Monday, March 21, 2011
GameReactor Magazine plays host to the first details on Prey 2's gameplay, with developer Human Head Games apparently crediting a variety of triple-A titles as inspiration, from the acrobatics of Mirror's Edge to the "freedom of Mass Effect" and the wide-open areas of Assassin's Creed II.
"Every area is comparable to Assassin's Creed II" Human Head reportedly told GameReactor, meaning that Prey 2 will likely feature large open environments on its planet 'Exodus' setting. Exodus will feature "desert levels, big cities, 'in the wilds', (and) cave areas" and will also feature plenty of looting like Borderlands, according to the mag.
You'll also be able to purchase new armours and ability upgrades as well as customisable weapons for Prey 2's new lead character - who takes over from Prey's Tommy - Sheriff Killian Samuels (picture on the magazine's cover, below), who according to the report, will play out the opening events of the first Prey from his own perspective, at the beginning of Prey 2.
The mag's coverage also notes a cover system like Killzone 2's, with the core gameplay influenced by Mirror's Edge and Mass Effect, with the freedom to go wherever you want and interact with whoever you want. Killian will have similar agility to Faith from Mirror's Edge too, meaning that he'll be "leaping over heights, hanging by arms from pipes, balancing on thin boards and jumping like a cat upwards structures".
Finally, Prey 2 will not feature support for 3D and Human Head has decide to forego the inclusion of multiplayer, stating, "Who would pick the MP mode of Prey 2 ahead of the one in, for example, Halo Reach?"
So, there you have it.
