After 12.7 million fan votes logged between March 21st and April 27th, Cleveland Browns' Peyton Hillis has been selected as the new cover star for Madden NFL 12, beating Madden NFL 04 cover athlete Michael Vick of the Eagles, in an unprecedented voting campaign.

"Our fans have responded in record-setting fashion to honour Peyton Hillis, and we're extremely pleased to welcome him into an exclusive fraternity of NFL players to appear on the cover of the Madden NFL franchise," said Anthony Stevenson, Senior Product Manager of EA Sports. "This year's cover voting campaign with ESPN has sparked incredible debate and conversation amongst fans and NFL players, which is a testament to the interest in and anticipation for Madden NFL each year. The amount of support that Hillis generated nationally and within his home market of Cleveland was truly impressive."

"This has been a humbling experience and I want to thank all the fans in Cleveland and throughout the country that got behind me and voted each and every week," said Peyton Hillis, running back for the Cleveland Browns. "I've been playing Madden NFL for ten years, and it's a dream to know that I'll be on the cover of this great game. I'm looking forward to another big season with the Browns to show fans how much we appreciate them."

EA Sports has also release a new gameplay preview video showing some of the new features for Madden NFL 12, which include an all-new collision system, advanced defensive Ai with new defensive coverage and custom playbooks. Check out the video for the lowdown on Madden NFL 12's new gameplay additions, then look out for Peyton Hillis on the store shelves, when Madden NFL 12 releases on August 30th.

3# i have to agree, i'm very glad vick isn't the cover star, and reckon that it's no surprise that he wasn't voted for!

wow...I can't believe Hillis won...the first white RB to be on the cover. Good for him...not sure why they didn't put Aaron Rodgers on the cover. No matter, I never buy these games new...I wait a year and pay $10 for them.

So even though Peyton Hillis is best Peyton in the league and the cover athlete, they didn't show him or for that matter the Browns in this trailer at all...

i had both Vick and Hillis on my fantasy team last year, so I voted for both of them the entire time, but when it came down to the finals, I voted for Vick. I felt he brought more to the table than Hillis, plus it would have been cool to see him get the cover twice.

I find it ironic that Hillis is on the cover but I don't think I saw any gameplay with him in it.

I was shocked the finals were Hillis and Vick in the finals for voting. Especially Hillis winning; he's good but I can name at least 6 better and more established running backs. I assumed Rodgers would have won actually.

@5: It will always be.

@12: Living in Ohio I can tell you how numerous...and annoying Browns fans are. Hillis exploded onto the scene last year and runs with a purpose, never giving up on a play and running head first at anyone, usually going airborne. No surprise to see him win. And Vick is the greatest athlete to play the game.

It's funny, I see all these comments, and it makes me laugh. If Peyton were say, a Steeler, a Cowboy, a Packer, etc., all the bandwagon fans would be all over his nuts, but because he's a Brown, he gets no respect. That's cool though, that's the way sports "fans" are these days. Either way, I'm proud to be a Cleveland Browns fan, always have been, always win be. Congrats Peyton, you do deserve it, just as much, if not more than anyone else! The end.

And he's probably not in the trailer because it may have been made before the voting was over, who knows!

Look I have nothing against Peyton Hillis. He's a good player. But he had ONE good year and the average NFL fan probably doesn't know who he is. EA kinda screwed up with this voting thing. They should've just picked 4 players to vote for from last season who had great seasons. Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Adrian Peterson, and Michael Vick would've been great choices.

@17 Good point. Im sure there are casual fans who would buy this if their favorite player is on the cover. No disrespect to the browns fans or white lighting fans but Aarons Rodgers would sell more games.

To everyone saying no-one will buy it because they haven't heard of Peyton Mills. That's BS...most people who get Madden, get it because it is Madden. If the casual fan or some young dude wants a football game, they will get )or have their Mommy get) either the newest Madden or the newest NCAA Football. It really doesn't matter who is on the cover. Just look at some of the scrubs EA has put on their NCAA Football recently - excluding Tebow, you would have to follow college football to know who they are (Boise St, Texas Tech and Arkansas aren't really in the casual fans consciousness).

Also, having another Packer on the cover 3 years after Mr. Favre was on the cover (as a Packer) would be stupid. The Madden-curse should be spread.

@22 Who is Peyton Mills? I haven't heard of him so I definitely won't by Madden 2012. Now Peyton Hillis, I have heard that name somewhere before.

Glad Vick wasn't on the cover. I would have voted for anybody over him. Hillis was a pretty good choice.

Anyone but Vick. Sorry, no matter what he does or says, I don't forgive him for what he did. Plus I think EA and the NFL may have swayed the vote to avoid bad PR. The NFL looks bad enough right now with the lockout and labor issues. I don't think an uproar over Vick would be good for football on top of their current situation.

I can understand vick not getting the cover,i agree that vick has made up for his mistakes and served his time but at the same time they would have sold less copies if he was on the cover but Hillis i dont understand, not over peterson or rodgers, any player from a team that made the playoffs and thats not going to be the browns anytime soon not in that division anyways.

It's not just Vick, but guys like Roethlisberger too. The league should not have criminals representing it. EA and the NFL should know better. Hillis is a safe choice. Hillis won't impact sales one way or the other, but Vick would of had a negative impact most likely. Truth be told, Aaron Rodgers should have gotten the cover.

The best thing about this, is Vick not getting the curse.
