Crytek took to the stage at Microsoft’s press conference at E3 last year to announce the Xbox 360 exclusive Codename: Kingdoms.

Originally in development at Crytek Budapest, an anonymous told Gamasutra today that the Xbox 360 exclusive would switch hands from Crytek’s Budapest studio to its Frankfurt based one, with the Budapest studio losing 30-35 staff members in the process as it switches its focus.

Avni Yerli, MD at Crytek Frankfurt, responded to the claims saying, “We can confirm that our Budapest studio is getting a new direction and focus.” The MD would not however confirm that the studio is switching its focus from the Xbox 360 exclusive to focus on tablet titles.

More interestingly is Gamasutra’s reference to the relatively unknown exclusive being a Kinect title, stating that not only is it a Kinect enabled first-person melee game, but it’s also being prepped for a showing at Microsoft’s E3 press conference next month.

Crytek Budapest has been working on Codename: Kingdoms for two years, according to the source, stating that the shift in development studios comes after Microsoft Game Studios made a “sudden decision” to have Crytek move the development of the game to Crytek Frankfurt.

Whether that turns out to be the case, only time will tell, but with Microsoft needing a stronger focus at E3 this year for core gamers, you can assume that their obvious core-centric Xbox 360 exclusive will make an appearance.

Stay tuned.
