Huge Test Drive Unlimited 2 Patch and Free DLC Incoming

Atari and Eden Games have finally got their act together and are planning to release an exhaustive patch for Test Drive Unlimited 2 that fixes a slew of bugs and other glitches, such as cars and avatars turning invisible, cars being launches into the air and the ability to drive through certain parts of the scenery.

Apparently, the update is coming "very soon" and will improve a whole variety of gameplay facets as well as patching a lot of the game's most glaring issues. It will also arrive alongside a rather generous game add-on, which will be available completely free.

The 'Exploration' DLC pack will bundle 20 new events, 2 new event types, new cars and a lot more besides for absolutely nothing, as a way of apologising for the ongoing problems with TDU2. Now you can look forward to playing the game as it was always meant to be, and get some free content into the bargain.

New content

  • 20 new events
  • 2 new events types
  • Extreme convoy: one mistake and the mission is over
  • Timed convoy: it is a convoy mission...but with a timer!
  • Each completed event gives access to a new wreck
  • 20 new wrecks give 2 new cars (10 wrecks = 1 car):
  • Lancia Stratos version Rallye
  • Dodge charger 1969
  • 3 new discovery levels
  • 1 new set of clothes (explorer) Male/Female
  • 2 new MP Races (Specifically for the Lancia Stratos version Rallye)
  • 3D on PC & PS3
  • TV Media: Help Channel (to explain new features and content)

The update includes the following Gameplay improvements:

  • Players can sell their cars in the used car dealer (including cars won in duels)
  • Effect of collisions with rocks and trees is now less severe
  • Instant challenges have been tweaked to exclude very short or very long races
  • Cruising as a passenger now unlocks roads
  • Lower car-road impact sounds
  • New restrictions on MP races (to stop the prevalence of top end cars in all races)
  • Session lost messages are now more descriptive
  • Koenigsegg CCXR performance tweaked to be competitive with Bugatti Veyrons
  • Y axis inversion option added
  • Additional race restrictions added to avoid Bugattis having complete dominance
  • Lobby: Club cars are now allowed in multiplayer and solo modes
  • We scrutinize savegames for specific hacks and take measures when they are detected
  • Nat info text displayed on the Start screen if a potential network configuration problem is detected
  • Lobby: « With/Without collisions » info added
  • Lobby: « Inner club » & « club vs club » info icons added
  • Players can now cancel on the search games loading screen
  • [X360] It is now impossible to join a ranked match once it has started
  • [X360] Rich presence is now more descriptive, based upon what players are doing in the game

The update includes fixes for the following documented bugs:

  • Cars can be launched into the air by glitches in the road
  • Cars can end up in the sky if the player goes to the map while their car is falling
  • Possible to get through walls/scenery by going in and out of map mode
  • Unable to enter sessions with a co-driver
  • Cars sometimes turn invisible
  • Unable to start a multiplayer race with the Caterham Superlight R500
  • Unable to play club races with club cars
  • The Final Cup can be repeated to earn the grand prize an unlimited number of times
  • Missing car door interior when switching to some low-res models
  • Stickers not appearing when in a friend's garage
  • Invisible avatars immediately after a club upgrade
  • Hawaii - collision problem on the "Hydro House"
  • Collisions problems in many sectors
  • Infinite loading in sticker shop when no more storage space is available
  • Crash when loading a photo in MyTDUHouse
  • Crash at the end of chase mode online
  • Crash at end of a duel
  • Crashes in chase mode & freeride
  • Crash when exiting a championship challenge
  • Other random crashes
  • Sticker shop: Matt paint available twice, replacing metallic as an option
  • Mylife Info : Incorrect number for clothes (collector box) & road unlocked (cruising box)
  • Pause menu: MyLife and Player info incorrect for levels higher than 60
  • Gameplay icons not removed when you press start on the results screen
  • Wrecks: Instant Challenge invites still active when opening wrecks popup
  • Map : Players sometimes displayed at the top-west corner of the map, in the sea
  • News: Not possible to delete news items
  • Club member list not updated when the president fires someone (members not notified)
  • Disappearing GPS road sections on Hawaii
  • Logitech on-wheel LED not accurately representing RPM and engine danger zone
  • Unable to sell pre order and DLC cars in game
  • [X360] Problems caused by changing devices
  • [X360] Players can get kicked out of sessions for no reason

Good to see Eden are still working on this. Maybe if this patch does help, I'll consider buying it.
But it's always good seeing developers support their games post release.

Ooo accidents less severe, only if the steering was a bit nicer too. But as it's free, awesome!

@5 you get used to Eden being vague after a while everything they have put on their forum since release of TDU2 has been one vague statement after another

Really looking forward to this, great way to reboot my minor obsession for this game when it came out which was unfortunately damaged by the number of issues. Will be really good to get back on it :) Hopefully this will be sooner rather than later, it has been 'coming very soon' for over 2 weeks :(

Well it's taken them a long time, but I do appreciate all the fixes and especially the free dlc. So thank you Atari, but I do have one question, why did you release a game which needed so many things to be fixed?

Yes, very good, Eden, but how about you don't release a broken game next time and save yourself the hassle? Just a thought.

There's been a free DLC pack out for a day or so already at least.

(All though that could be a different one, haven't played TDU2 for a while)

Now not complaining about it, but the price of this game has dropped hella fast since its release a few months ago. (Its one of the fastest Ive seen in quite awhile.) After seeing this list its no fucking wonder...lol j/k :P
Might consider getting it now however.

Very soon usually means months, but the fact that my copy still have not arrived from Zavvi for weeks now, makes me think. Didn't they already had a big patch a couple months back? Or this game is originally as broke as it is fun? What's deal?

Too little waayyy too late. Had the game for 2 weeks and couldnt play for 1 1/2 because of the green delta glitch and could never get onto the casino. Traded in in disgust.

Traded this in barely a week after I got it.. Gamestation had a special £35 store credit offer so I only lost £5 on this disastrous game. SO boring to play! I remember the first keeping me hooked every day for a solid week.. TDU2 is a complete joke. The gameplay is awful and it's so boring!

Such a shame! It's only 3 months after release! Sort it out Atari or do us all a favour and shut down, you are decades past your time.

Cant believe how long this update has taken to come, got rid of the game awhile ago and dont think il bother getting it again, maybe next year if can find it really cheap.
This has taken far too long to come out since there were major problems since release date.

I bought it and I'm very disappointed. It's not the bugs or faults, no, it's the handling of the cars which keeps this racing game down. You're literally slithering over the roads in some of the cars, while every little change of direction in the other cars will result in a 180° spin. It's ridiculous!

No repair for TDU2 friends list. Got 10 friends playing tdu2, not 1 showing as a tdu2 friend. Was hoping this was gonna be fixed. Achievements, cocktails and xp I can't get. Still love the game and can't wait for DLC, or the dlc they've planned later.

I did not even realize this game was so buggy! And ppl are going berserk when some bigger titles have once or two glitches... Still it is very generous of them to give such a huge batch of free DLC. I wonder how that worked out with MS LOL

That's great that Eden is fixing all of these bugs, but why can't they let us change the control scheme. This is 2011, why are all button layouts not remappable? Am I the only one who does not like using the triggers for gas and brake?

if u use the triggers u have control over how much u accelerate/brake. It's impossible to play follow the leader by pressing buttons. It's u that needs to get in to 2011! Learn!

I think everyone seems to be slating Atari and Eden. They all seem to forget that the abomination that is Criterion holds the reigns now. Remember what they have done with the Burnout games and the attrocity that is Burnout Paradise.

@38 - Are you trying to say that Criterion have messed TDU2 up? They had nothing to do with it... And they did nothing wrong with Burnout Paradise. They took the series in a different direction, and it worked well. Also, have you played Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit? Best game since Need For Speed: Most Wanted, in my opinion.

Criterion are a great developer. Eden did well with TDU1, though it took them a while to get that running almost perfectly, but they've screwed up really bad with TDU2.

@40 - Ooops my bad. Got mixed up with the new NFS for some stupid reason lol. I only played the demo of Hot Pursuit but wasn't keen on it. Think I keep comparing them to Most wanted as I think that is by far the best of the franchise. I myself have no issues with TDU2 with the exception of being unable to connect with mates every so often but that to me is a very small minor problem. I have been lucky that I haven't had any of the bugs or issues that many other users have had. I am just really looking forward to the patch for the new content and the welcome addition of the motorbikes once more.

Was holding off getting this until they sorted out the problems. Which I think was a wise move, the added bonus is that due to delays and cockups re the patch you can pick the game up for £25 and get the glitches sorted free. A marvel of promotion and marketing from Atari and Eden well done.
