Following Bizarre's James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Activision is planning to release a new James Bond title this year, the publisher announced during its Q1 2011 investor call last night. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg mentioned the next instalment in the ongoing 007 franchise, while talking about the company's numerous other franchises for this year.

“For the balance of the year, we plan to launch games based on the best-selling X-Men and Spider-Man franchises, James Bond and the toy phenomenon Bakugan as well as the latest release in the long-standing Cabela’s Hunting franchise, which we’re expanding this year to include new peripherals and an incredible Kinect experience,” he stated during the latter part of the call.

Given the mixed reception to Blood Stone, it'll be interesting to see what direction 2011's James Bond title will take, but with Wolfenstein and Singularity dev Raven Software reportedly on development duties, it could be that 007 returns to the FPS genre for this one.

  • Yes, I liked Blood Stone a lot. Hopefully Raven will do a good job.
  • Totally stoked for this! Just completed Bloodstone that was SIK!
  • Did they not learn from the commercial failing of blood stone? Gonna put another studio out of business by the looks
  • New peripherals? Ugh, I'll reserve judgment but does anyone remember Tony Hawk Shred and Ride? Blood Stone wasn't bad. Let's see what Raven can cook up is better. Lest Activision close them down too.
  • Activision Confirms a New James Bond Game for 2011 and the closure of the development studio shortly after said title doesn't move as many units as the Call of Duty series.
  • Great another studio going down then. Why cant they learn from previous mistakes? There hasnt been any good bond game since Goldeneye
  • Ha like the last one was so good..
  • Nooo. Bring back Bizzare. Bring back Blur 2. I WANT MORE BLUR!!
  • Raven could make a very good James Bond game. I'll definitely look into this once more details release.
  • I thought Blood Stone didn't sell well? IT was a great game though and it was a shame when I thought they wern't making anymore.
  • More James Bond!!!
  • i agree with #8 - i loved blur, would like to see another one! Maybe less lag though! Shame they have gone :( Never tried bloodstone but i thought Quantum of Solace was brilliant! Even enjoyed the crazy mp
  • More crappy Fps action from activision. Lets see how mediocore they can make this game. While companies like Bizarre get shut down Activision still puts out more rushed bullshit...
  • I liked Quantum of Solace and Blood Stone, both had different feels to them but they were both quite good. Although I never tried Blood Stone's multiplayer.
  • @6 Actually, there's been plenty of good Bond games since Goldeneye. It's just a shame gamers like you refuse to give them a chance and instead like to compare them to 14 year old games that have aged horribly...
  • Just a guess: I don't think it matters for Activision how bad Blood Stone sold. I would guess they have the Bond-license for a limited time period and HAVE TO make a new game in order to make cash from that license.
  • I actually enjoy the Bond games. Quantum of Solace, IMO, was better than Blood Stone though. QoS actually had fun multiplayer but Blood Stone MP was completely changed and not nearly as good. Both SP's are fun. So I am excited about a new one as long as they go back to QoS type MP.
  • Bye bye Raven Software, RIP.
  • I think Goldeneye 007 for the Wii would have been good if it had been developed for next gen rather than the Wii. I'd love to hear that they are doing that...but you know that GE was only famous because it was the only console FPS that was fun...and PD blew it away...but that was years ago why waste time trying to revive that now...just make a new IP and be done with it...is it that hard to design a game around an idea even a Bond idea then change names and locations to fiction and viola IDK...
  • Haven't even played Blood Stone, not saying it's bad. It just not look that appealing to me. We'll see what direction they take this title next:-)
  • i just wish it is third person. im tired of first person games.
  • Blood Stone was easily the worst Bond game I have ever played. I struggled to even stay interested long enough to finish the story. I hope they return to the FPS style Bond like Goldeneye, Nightfire, and Agent Under Fire. I loved that you could use all the classic Bond gadgets in those games, something that is sorely lacking from the Daniel Craig era of Bond. Bring back Q and all those gadgets goddamnit!
  • Hopefully they will release it at the exact same time as Call of Duty like the last two excellent Bond games. Let's release Blur the same day as Red Dead Redemption while we are at it. Instead of closing Bizarre Creations Activision should have fired their entire marketing department.
  • i only play the 3rd person bond games. im so tired of 1st person games. just too many
  • They really need to sort out the online... Blood stone was so poor! @23 you are spot on
