Mass Effect 2: Genesis Interactive Comic Available Now on XBL
Written By
View author's profile

Do you feel like you're falling behind with the Mass Effect saga? Did you miss out on Mass Effect 1 and feel like it would just be far too many man hours to get yourself up to speed? Then the Mass Effect 2: Genesis interactive comic will be just what the doctor ordered, giving you the perfect chance to make your Mass Effect decisions.

The digital comic is now available from the Xbox Live Marketplace, offering the Mass Effect backstory as a 15-minute 'interactive experience' created by BioWare and Dark Horse comic. Through playing the comic, you'll be able to make all of the key decisions that would otherwise be made by playing Mass Effect 1 and have them reflected in your playthrough of Mass Effect 2. Perfect for getting yourself ready for Mass Effect 3, no?

You can add Mass Effect 2: Genesis to your download queue here for 320 Microsoft Points.

In other DLC news, Fallout: New Vegas Honest Hearts DLC is available now for 800 Microsoft Points. Add it to your download queue here.

And Crysis 2's Retaliation Map Pack DLC is also out now and ready to add to your download queue for 800 Microsoft Points.

Enjoy!

[Thanks, mmartynn]

I thought that comic would come free with ME3. No way I pay money for it, I'd rather start a fresh ME3 game or play ME1 and 2 again. They should have released this free.

I have already played both games 3 times over but I still kind of want to get this. I'd be interested in doing a few quick playthroughs on ME2 with different decisions. But I swear, Kaiden will never make it off of Virmire. Never.

I'd be more interested in this if this had love interests, cause I cannot remember for the life of me if I boinked Ashley on the playthrough I'm in for ME2 now. Cause the playthrough I did boink her, everyone died on the suicide mission, except for Miranda who I also boinked. Any input into this would be appreciated

This comic was released with the PS3 version of ME2. The only things the comic covers is the Rachni Queen, your love interest, and if you saved the council or not. There might be something else I'm forgetting but it's hardly the definitive backstory you get if you actually complete Mass Effect 1.

Honestly I'd rather replay Mass Effect.

@3 My understanding is ME3 will have a downloadable one of these covering ME2 for importing into the third game. This just covers the events from the first game to import into the second game.

I know it's the important decisions but the point is your missing out on a lot if you don't play through ME1. I just don't want people to think this comic can be used as a substitute to playing the actual game. I've played ME1 many times on the 360 and this comic quite honestly SUCKS compared to the full experience.

320 points to save me 40+ hours of gameplay (not that i dislike Me1 but i have played through it like 8 times) seems like a good deal. Plus its a cool idea.

Wow, they want people to pay for blood replacement or something? Even little decisions has an effect in Mass Effect 2, and i doubt this ''replacement'' of a game will cover that. Not to mention the gameplay itself.

@21 I think its probably the end of the comic - it should be the ME1 backstory as it was designed to get a grip on the story for ME2 on the PS3.

This isn't bad for anyone who, like me, has already played ME1 to death, but anyone who hasn't played ME1 and wants to play ME2 using this rather than playing the original just shouldn't bother, it'll never be an decent enough substitute for the real thing.

Also 320MSP is a lot for a Comic, but it wouldn't have been too bad if there was at least an achievement or two with it.

If I have played ME 1 through several times with the same character, each time making slightly different decisions and now I am half way through another play through, what decisions will be counted in ME 2? Do I have to complete the play through I am on now to import my character into ME2? I had been playing on easy trying to rank up and I have been stuck on level 58 for some time now. After my last game finished I decided to restart and play on hard/insane hoping I would get more experience. Once I reach 60 do I need to finish the game, or I can just import my character into ME2?

As someone who has played through ME1 8 times and ME2 4 times, I'm still buying this. While I enjoy ME1, it is a mediocre game at best compared to ME2. And after playing ME2, it really makes ME1 feel dated to me. This will be a tremendous help designing new Sheps for ME2&3, even though I wish it would have shown up sooner on the marketplace. Would have saved me many hours in ME1, but honestly it still will.

And to those of you crying that the PS3 got it free, that's because they had to wait a full year for ME2, and were unable to play ME1 at any point on their console. Honestly, without this coming with ME2, sales would have suffered. I know personally I hate jumping into the middle of a series, but something like this in sequels is a great idea.

I would get the comic for just being a die hard Mass Effect fanatic. But it sucks that it doesn't cover those other little minor decisions you made in ME1. Like...

1. How you treated Conrad Verner
2. The fate of Helena Blake
3. The fate of Fist
4. The fate of Giana Parasini
5. The fate of Shiala
6. The fate of Rana Thanoptis
7. Wether you chose Udina or Anderson as council member
8. Message from Emily Wong

#46 RPG's are known to be timesinks, if you don't want to invest time in the game, why bother buying it?

Besides, you won't get the full experience, nor every effective decision which carries over to Mass Effect 2. Playing through the first game also adds a lot more knowledge of the game series itself.

thats BS, the comic should be free or include ME2 decisions towards ME3. It would help bring newer people to the series for 3 and pay for itself. EA had to get money hungry again though.

Not only should it be free - or at the very least, released for free on the Cerberus Network - but it's also rubbish. Saw the whole thing on Youtube when it first came out on PS3, they really phoned it in. If you're desperate for a bare-bones ME1 save creator, get it for that, but don't get it for the narrative.

It's supposed to be written from Shepard's first person perspective, looking back on ME1, but honestly, he/she must've been loopy from the lack of oxygen that preceeded the death at the start of ME2. They really phoned it in, in fact, whoever wrote the script? I'd be amazed if they actually played ME1 for more than 5 minutes. And I'm pretty sure it was one of the ME2 lead writers who wrote it. Which pretty much sums it up.
