Disney today announced their latest venture into the video game world, Disney Universe, which puts problem solving and team play at the forefront with its multiplayer orientated action-adventure stylings.
For the first time ever, Disney and Pixar will combine to create a rich action-adventure title where players can suit up in iconic costumes, defeat enemies, explore Disney and Pixar inspired worlds – both from animated and live-action films – and face “legendary challenges” – so getting Sulley from Monster’s Inc into a tutu then?
With Alice (Alice in Wonderland), Mike (Monster’s Inc), TRON (TRON) and Stitch (Lilo & Stitch) costumes already confirmed, Disney Universe is set to be a Disney fan’s wildest dream. Team up with four friends to solve puzzles, defeat enemies and compete for high-scores in a land where mischief, madness and mayhem reign free.
Players will select a character-based costume, with each costume offering a specific tool that changes and grows in power as players adventure through the game, according to the press release. Each of the game’s six worlds will have objectives and missions that follow the Disney and Pixar movie storylines too.
Disney are already promising post launch support as well, including additional worlds, costumes and more. Could this be the current generation Kingdom of Hearts we’re all after? We’ll find out this fall.
Disney Universe is slated for a release in fall 2011. In the meantime, check out the debut screens and announcement trailer below.
