Sonic Generations City Escape Screens and Trailer Speed in From E3

As Dan and I gear up to bring you a veritable banquet of previews, here's a small primer for our Sonic Generations coverage, which we're happy to report was actually a rather pleasant surprise. Taken through the City Escape section by Producer Takashi Iizuka behind closed doors, we got to see first-hand how the Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic sections will work in the game.

We also had the chance to go hands-on with the re-imagined Green Hill Zone too, which evoked all kinds of fond blue hedgehog-related memories. It's the City Escape section from Sonic Adventure 2 that's the focus for these latest assets though, with a host of screens and a new trailer showing off the updated version of the level.

Check out all seven super-speedy screenshots in the gallery and take a look at the new trailer showing the brand new 2D version of the 3D City Escape stage from Sonic Adventure 2, which Dreamcast and Gamecube owners will remember vividly, no doubt. Sonic Generations is out later in 2011, with 3D support. Look out for our E3 preview soon!

This actually looks pretty fun, I'll probably buy it when it's cheaper, though. Hate to miss out on Sonic, he was my good childhood friend, he was. >:D

Interesting. Very interesting. You know, at first I was skeptical, but they can't mess up the Classic Sonic stages. All the have to do is make sure the Modern Sonic ones functional and we'll have an awesome game. :D

I don't get why people are saying that it's finally 'right'. SA1 and 2 were great games that were different from classic sonic but still great. 06 was a diamond in the SEVERE rought which is understandable. Unleashed was fantastic but the haters of hack and slash gameplay decided to declare it awful and Sonic 4 was another amazing game.

tl:dr stop being unpleasable sonic fans....

Sonic 06 sucked ass, Sonic 4 was a rehash the felt horrible. Never played Unleashed.

Adventure 1 and 2 were great though. This looks pretty good as well.

So basically Sonic fans have bitched so much that Sega has decided to let the players play as both versions of Sonic, and is just re-making all of the levels that people like.

I know lots of people will probably give me thumbs down because of this ,but why on earth did some fans complain about Sonic 4 and Sonic Colours? Those were not bad games by any means. Now Sonic 06 and Unleashed's werehog parts, those were awful.

I wish they'd just make Sonic Adventure 3. They had the controls and gameplay down perfectly in Sonic Adventure 2 in my opinion, so why can't they go back to that formula?

Seriously, I loved this stage in SA2. The music is still one of my all-time fave non-Nintendo tunes

@20
It's supposed to be a remix of the original theme, according to what I've heard.

Also, I've heard that they actually gave the truck buzzsaws.

Just bring SA2 (and preferrably Sonic R) as live arcade titles and you wont need new sonic games for years

Sonic 4 was a pile of trash. it was not a sonic game by any means. if it was going to be a "4th" sonic game, it'd feel like it did back when Sonic 3 was out. Sonic team really messed it up on it. Sonic Colors was actually a fun game. It was the first they got really close to feeling SA'ish. And the way this stuff looks, I think Sonic Team finally got their heads out their asses and pulled out a great game.

City Escape!? Sweet! SA2 is by far my favorite Sonic game.

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this now. If it's released in October, I may consider buying this. November and it's either getting the buy+wait treatment or a rental.

I've always loved the music Sega's done for their Sonic games, both the in-game music 8-bit and current and the songs they do like Listen To Your Heart (SA1), Live and Learn (SA2) and His World (StH), but this time...maybe it's just for the trailer or the actual games song, I don't know...don't get me wrong, I've no complaints about the actual song. Just not really liking the "out-sourcing" part.

@22, it's not just you. I checked it, it's definately the music from My Chemical Romance's "Na Na Na".

This looks surprisingly good, I haven't played Sonic for quite some time as I've felt the quality drop with each new title they bring out. (With a couple of exceptions)
But this game looks like it may make me enjoy sonic once again, and the concept of 2D and 3D gameplay is very creative and I can't wait to play this.
