Rise of Nightmares
Rise of Nightmares Trailer Bids You Welcome With Blood and Gore

If it's a core Kinect title you're after, then how about this one? SEGA is working on Rise of Nightmares, a pitch-black psychological horror game that looks like it's one part Silent Hill to two parts House of the Dead. It looks completely mental and gratuitously violent too, which gorehounds will no doubt love.

In the trailer, there's decapitation, an axe in the top of someone's head, death by spikes and crushing, and more blood-soaked atrocities as SEGA's dark horror title pours on the scares. We wonder how much of that fright factor will be nullified by Kinect's lighting requirements. Hmm...

If you're not squeamish and over 18, give the new video a watch and see how insane Rise of Nightmares is shaping up to be. SEGA's Rise of Nightmares is set to come to Kinect in September 2011.

Standing up in my living room with the lights on in a well lit room thanks to kinect needing light will kill the immersion.
Horror games are best played with the lights off and surround sound on as I cower behind the couch, not like this!

Even if I can sit down (which from my experience with kinect shows I can't) I wouldn't want to fail a specific section because my arms are too tired.

*Kinect Bitch incoming*
I did recently purchase a kinect but took it back the next day, it's a good piece of kit but restricts the user too much, what happens to the minority report-esq swiping on the main menu? Instead I have to go into a sub-menu to do that and even then I have to wave at the screen until kinect knows I want to do something.

It IS just an eye-toy at the minute with all the so called advanced tech such as sign language being held by m$, the voice commands are good but it makes me don my telephone voice which is never a good thing.....

Why does everyone keep saying about having the lights on to use Kinect? This is the second time I've seen this comment on this site for Rise of Nightmares.

Kinect works perfectly well in the dark; try it out for yourselves.

Anyway, looking forward to this game a lot

Exactly. The light from your TV usually does the trick. At least for me it does. Some say it's actually more responsive, but I've never seen THAT much of a difference.

Thankfully I have a lamp in the corner of my room that has enough light to still use the kinect, but still have a bit of a creepy atmosphere :)

Kinect actually works better in dimly lit rooms apparently. (So it keeps telling me when playing certain games anyway)

Plus, I dont get what people thought they'd get with Kinect..did they really think it would be like Minority Report????

Oh well..I like it and look forward to stuff like Kinect Sports 2 and Gunstringer!

You're one of those people that judges all of SEGA's games based solely on Sonic the Hedgehog, aren't you?

I thought so.

The company who makes a multiplayer kinect game that involves killing one another is the time when everyone will be buying up kinect.
So far this is the only game for kinect that has piqued my interest. All the others are glorified wii party game rip offswhich weren't that great on the wii after you'd slept on it.

The graphics could be a bit more polished which Sega might do considering they have the time to do until August (Sep. is the release date i know but still you are looking at testing and distributing and the lot). The gameplay looks interesting. But what really does grab my attention is that it is made from the ground up to be kinect only game rather than kinect compatible title. looking forward to it and I might end up buying Kinect because of this title if the reviews are good enough.

WOW They should've showed this trailer at E3. Looked maybe a little scary in the other one, enough for kids to play, but this one looks really scary. Really want this one now, but will wait to see what the reviews say about controls.

Yay actual GAME footage & not some C.G cutscene ect, It really bums me out every year at E3 and other shows where you go to check out a new trailer for a game you want to see more of and just end up with a C.G movie which could be played on virtually ANY console.

If only some one would put time into a rating system of some kind for video games...guess we'll have to wait for that one. Why don't you try being a father/mother and not let everyone else do it for you.

Kinect is perfect for Survival Horror. If they can just find a way to get the game off rails and make it natural to move around while shooting. The flashlight in Alan Wake, for instance, is perfect. Just how do you move around without some kind of controller? Anyway, this game will probably answer the question of how many folks who bought a Kinect were in it for the casual gaming. So far, my Kinect is a blast at parties and does well with voice commands for Netflix and Hulu. I'm a gamer, though. I'd like to see someone take it to that next level. If it's a serious game device, let's see some serious games. Lovin' voice control, but developers can do better. Still hoping EPIC has something figured out.

@16 is correct. Everyone making comment regarding lighting, read this:

Specifically the section on lighting.

Tip, DIM evenly lit rooms are best... (and no, that doesn't describe most people who shelled out for the device either). Sounds perfect to me for some "pitch-black psychological horror gaming".

It would be awesome if your health could be how many times the Kinect sensor could pick up a jump. Like when a person gets scared and they jump a little

This game is almost out already, so why haven't we seen some actual gameplay footage yet? I know that trailer was almost entirely made up of small snippets of gameplay, but nothing long enough to actually tell how the game is going to feel when we play it or how the game will even be played, y'know?
