TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled
Turtles in Time Re-Shelled Set to Be Removed From XBLA
Written By
View author's profile

Ubisoft has revealed that its heroes in a half shell remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled it set to be removed from download services from June 30th onwards due to an expired license on the IP. An advertisement on the PlayStation Network with a message screaming, "last chance to purchase" was spotted by Joystiq and subsequently confirmed by Ubisoft.

With the game releasing on the Xbox Live Arcade back in 2009, Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is only just reaching its two-year anniversary, yet the offending expired license means that if you want to own it, you had better act now and add it to your collection.

Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is fun and colourful four-player co-op blast, so for 800 Microsoft Points, it's well worth a go. You can add it to your download queue here.

ALready got it. I do miss the original format but better than nothing. I wish they'd put the old school NES version on there. Awesome music.

Yeah the SNES version was better, they took out some levels and changed all the music for this one. This is definitely still fun with other people either online or on the couch.

Never played the old one. This one was fun but nothing you can't live without. If you did not finish all the achievements and don't redownload it in time, you should be able to get it again with your download history. It worked with yaris last week.

(I know yaris sucks, but i have 1 achievement left and found out about the coin glitch. now to find someone that still wants to play it :p )

I'd buy it at discount, they should put a discount price on it as it's about to go out, that way they'd make a bit of money and give me a chance to buy it :D

Surely they would lower it to a rediculus price now to encourage last minutes sales?

Wow, it's been two years already? I still remember when this game was just a rumor.

I bought this at launch and loved it. I really need to go back and get the last achievement for this. I'd like to have the full 200 points.

So, if Ubisoft is letting the Turtles license expire, maybe another developer will pick it up and do an amazing game with it? I sure hope so..

So if you've bought the game and you lose the file somehow will you still be able to redownload it? I don't own the game, I'm just wondering what would happen.

I think this version is pretty crappy compared to the SNES-version, sad to hear they are removing it though. But I'm kinda glad to hear Ubisoft is losing the TMNT license, then it might be handed to some company that treats it better than Ubisoft has.

@ 11:

then you are assed out if that happens. your only hope would be if the game was made available again. you'll be able to start the download from your dl history but it'll never get past 1% completion.

Isn't there a glitch still where if you download a demo of an arcade title, and then the whole game is removed, that you can then unlock it free of charge? I've heard that people did it with Ultimate Mortal Kombat and Double Dragon, whereby they'd still got the demos on their hardrives, but obviously couldn't buy the full game, so when they went to unlock it it did so free of charge as it was no longer registered to be able to charge them. And you're essentially downloading the whole game when you grab a demo anyway, it just needs unlocking. I'd try it here but i already have this.

@11: yeah if you downloaded it, and deleted it after, you can find it in your download history to download again. it works for every arcade game.

Anyhow after reading this i would love to play it again. hmm i may download it again, cause it was fun to play with buddys

So who gets the rights now? I mean, I know Paramount owns the franchise as a whole, but they don't have a gaming company as far I know.

I agree with #1, the original is better (I've actually only played the arcade version, not the Nintendo version.) but this is still good fun. Really a shame.

I have beat the NES version more times than any game I have ever played. One of my favorite co op games of all time.

This version was ok but it just isn't the same.

Maybe it will go back to Konami who released all of the NES and SNES ninja turtle games. Maybe then we can get all of the classic TMNT's on Xbox live.

Got this for 160MSP on a one day deal a while ago and that's about all it's worth tbh. I'd rather play the original version any day.

@11

If you download it and delete it, like the others said you will be able to re-download it from your download history. However in my experience, you won't be able to buy the game if you didn't buy it before it was removed from the marketplace- so don't count on a trial download being unlockable into the full game in the future. I tried with Paperboy and a couple of the other old school games that got pulled a year or two ago

I hope people realize when I mean the old NES version, I mean the first Ninja Turtles game released with the overhead map part of the game. The Turtles in Time was on the SNES.

Got this a while back on sale. It's awesome, and I love playing it now ALMOST as much as I did on the SNES.

I love good graphics as much as the next guy, but some older games (TMNT, Sonic - they did it right, etc.) I'd rather play with the old crappy graphics, the way they were meant to be played. Not to say I won't get an old game from XBLA just because the graphics were improved - I would do it in a heartbeat for the right games.

Bullshit. And you'd think they'd drop the price to move as much of the game as they can since it won't be around to make profit in the future.

#1 #2 #4 There is the SNES version on XBLA to download, not sure if in your zone though.

Click here for TMNT 1989 version

I'm one of the lucky who got the two versions, and is still an awesome game.
