Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Assassin's Creed: Revelations Interview - Alexandre Breault Talks All Things Ezio
Written By
View author's profile

Assassin's Creed: Revelations marks the third outing for Ezio Auditore de Firenze in as many years, which for some is an exciting prospect as we march towards the inevitable conclusion of the ageing assassin's story, while for others it's another obstacle in the way towards Assassin's Creed III and an all-new assassin.

Whatever you might think however, there's no denying the level of triple-A quality that the Assassin's Creed franchise has maintained and with Brotherhood's multiplayer, Ubisoft Montreal added another string to its Creed bow. With that in mind, we sat down to chat all things Assassin's Creed with Lead Game Designer, Alexandre Breault, asking about addressing the issues in multiplayer, what the future holds for Assassin's Creed and much, much more.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations is out on November 15th in North America and November 18th in Europe.

Hmmm... I really hope thay do what's best for the franchise. I think that ACR would be better without multiplayer in it, just singleplayer, and maybe co-op campaign or challenges? It'd be interesting to see how that would work out. Brotherhood's multiplayer was fine, but it quickly wore off after some time. And it was annoying trying to find a match, as it took forever to load. If there is multiplayer in Revelations, it should at least be able to find other players faster.

I had huge concerns about Brotherhood that were completely unfounded. I didn't think multiplayer would work: it's a lot of fun. I thought Ezio was played out: I ended up liking him much more in the second. The list goes on and on. Right now, I completely trust these guys to make another great game.

A co-op storyline would be awesome. Very happy to see multiplayer return and with a Templar Knight character. A character I always wanted to play in mp Brotherhood.

Doesn't anybody think that they are turning AC into COD? Before you start
hating on me think about it, they crank one out every year at the same time.
It's really just they same game with subtle changes, I know there's still
ALOT of fans as is the case with COD but I personally am done with AC.

I'm almost feeling that way, but I'm loving what's going on so far. I'm hoping they release Revelations, the release the last game next year where you play as Desmond and finish it off. Any more games, and I'll admit that they are milking it.

Just 5 games seems JUST right. No more!

Who cares if they release a game every year? Each and every single one was just as good as the one before or after it. You can obviously see they are understanding the communities concerns, such as when the reporter asked, "What do you think of the people that say the multiplayer will effect the single player quality?"

He simply tells him that they are working just as hard on the single player aspects as they have with the previous games, and by listening the communities concerns, questions, and ideas, they can once again give a fabulous game with a mind blowing storyline.

Now that they went through sort of a trial and error process with Brotherhood's multiplayer, they can work to perfect its issues in Revelations. Such as being able to find games faster, balancing it a bit more where newer players aren't getting terribly owned by the veterans, etc.

Believe me, Revelations is a special and necessary game. People that won't buy it are going to be left out on so much story, so much gamerscore, and so much epicness. And these people will be the ones on the forums complaining that they don't understand the story in AC3 because they figured, "Bah, it's just Assassins Creed 2.5" or "Bah, it's just AC 2.75".

I promise, this Assassin's Creed will kick complete ass. At least they aren't like Call of Duty, which is under the control of Bobby Kotick and his "We want moar moneyz pl0x" way of business, where as Ubisoft honestly looks at what their fans are saying, their feedback, and uses that method to bring a solid, unique experience every time. If you don't agree, then you've been living under a rock, my friends.

@18 Honestly what is wrong with you? You can't say that 5 games is enough, if each of them is great and improving on the previous most will want more because they can continue the awesome story and big changes. Except for a few idiots like you who just don't care that the game is still good, but just think it sounds right to have no more then 5. Screw conventions, they ruin everything.

@17 How exactly are the changes subtle!? AC2 added totally new setting huge game play enhancements with basically everything new characters and assets and an awesome story. Brotherhood added multi-player and a few cool new game play enhancements, and if you think the multi-player doesn't count then your in the few because most of the singe player fans of AC love the MP. Then this is a totally new setting, new features such as zip lines, customization in MP, and lots of other stuff plus more that will probably be announced.

Honestly, its like those idiots who don't know what actually goes into make a game and think Treyarch and IW can just whack in some new models, textures and levels and the new COD game is done. That is completely wrong, there are huge differences in COD games and they are not just re-skins same with AC.

I don't care how many they make, as long as the quality is good I'll keep playing them. It's a great universe that is still full of content for future games. But the formula Ubi has for releasing AC games bothers people, understandable with the way Activision is running Call of Duty now. But if the story, gameplay, and most likely the multiplayer are all quality then why hate on the devs for making another great game in the series? Just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own (;

People don't seem to understand the difference between milking a franchise, and continuing it because the customers clearly want you too. If they make 1000 Assassin's Creed games because a large base of players continues asking for more, and the games continue being great, that's not milking it. Milking a franchise isn't about the number of games. Call of Duty, AC, and people have more recently started complaining about Halo, and a few complain about Battlefield --- None of these are milked, at all. Customers want more, so they keep pumping out more.

They don't just assume that they can pump out the exact same game each year and think "Hey, it says Halo" and people will buy it. The customers WANT more Call of Duty. They WANT more Battlefield. They WANT more Halo. And they WANT more Assassin's Creed. Continuing a series that the large majority of it's players want continued isn't milking it, it's called not being a complete retard.

Video game businesses exist only to make money -- pure and simple. @21, you're right to an extent. Yes Ubisoft takes customers thoughts into account, but his way of business is the same "We want moar moneyz pl0x" method that Activision has, that EA has, that everyone has. Ubisoft just does a better job of pretending they care about customers than some other groups do. Do they REALLY care that your happy? Yes, but only because if you're not happy, they don't get rich.

@22 - Don't forget the 300+ custom bombs which can be made in ACR. Aswell as plenty new characters and the black room...

If anything, ACR will go down as the most important game in the AC universe assuming they end it at #3.

And also remember, the whole 2012 thing is a major part in the story. If they release the kicker after that, some customers will just go "lol dint hapn n00b".

They're pumping them out every year because we want more, because the story is so appealing.

@24 - CoD is being milked. Last time there was a graphics update or anything similar? Exactly. Just the same game with new characters, new locations and new guns. Same exact story.

@25 So CoD you say has, new locations, new people, new guns. You say it all has the same story? Really? have you ever PLAYED CoD? Unless you consider them all to the a story of "You're good go kill bad" in which case, almost every video game made has the same story. New locations, new people, new guns, new story -- so it doesn't have new graphics, it's still a different game. Just because something doesn't look nicer doesn't mean it's exactly the same.

No I'm not a CoD fanboy. Honestly, I prefer Battlefield, but the people that complain about companies milking franchises are just retarded and like to think that if they like one thing, everything that competes with it is terrible and needs to go.

Am I the only one who thinks they could REALLY get away with making an MMO? I'm not saying that there wouldn't be potential problems, but I could easily see a style of MP where you play as one of the assassins (or templar?) and level up and get cooler stuff, etc.

ANYWAYS, this game looks good but I might have to push it back because there's just so many games coming out (Only really interested in Gears 3, Battlefield 3 and Skyrim)

Ubisoft is one of my favorite game companies because they listen to their fans and are passionate about their games. Besides Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed is my favorite franchise and as long as the keep the same high level of quality that they have been giving us, then I see no reason why we all can't welcome a new Assassin's Creed every year!!!

@2 I don't think that co-op would really suit the would be a nice inclusion, but I just can't see how it would work. I would get irratated whenever my buddy steals my kill and sword-fights would be an absolute mess, especially with the insta-kill combos clashing.

@8 Lol if that's your strategy you must be pretty dumb: that just gets you killed and it's no fun at all.

@39 Again with the MP haters! What's wrong? Crying because you can't get 100%, or because your shit at the game? Seriously put some time and effort in and learn how to play, then you might see how good it is.

I would like a co-op story like SCC, short, but enjoyable. I like playing games that you kind of have to be tactical with friends, 'cause its fun coming up with new strategies.

And also, even if all of the achievements were MP, I wouldn't mind, because I love AC, and the MP isn't that bad. Better than Bioshock's.

@46 That's... awesome

As far as coop, I dunno. I enjoy the MP, but Assassin's Creed doesn't seem like a good franchise to add coop too. Then again, I thought the regular multiplayer would suck before Brotherhood would come out, and once I played it I loved it. If they do end up doing AC coop at some point, I'm happy as long as it's good.

@#39 and #42: If you take a second to look at my gamertag, you will see I have no problem with MP achievements or games. The AC series does not need MP. I tried it at a friend's house and it isn't fun. It makes the game sh*t. Worse than sh*t. It makes the game and the franchise a steaming cesspoool of suck. The first two were so awesome and so fun, but now they are turning it into Call of Sh*tty. I am done as long as they have MP achievements because the only thing I care about is single player, and I am not willing to sh*t on my gamertag by having a game like that on it. Enjoy it, have fun with it, or whatever, but YOU are the ones who are mistaken by thinking that AC needs multiplayer. It needs it like a knife in the back from Ezio.

@Everyone saying COD is being milked but not AC. Your arguments are completely pointless you say COD is just the same game with new weapons, a little better graphics, new maps and setting, as well as new characters. So could you please tell me what else AC is doing that isn't pretty much the exact same thing? New weapons: Well this is kind of obvious, some new assassin items here and there which to me is totally fine. Graphics: Same engine each and everytime with just improved graphics. New maps: For the multiplayer there is new maps and in the single player there are new locations, exactly the same as COD. New setting: Middle East to different cities across Italy to Rome which is in Italy to Istanbul. Yay!!! New characters: In COD's single player you might find some new squad mates in the campaign and in AC you will find some new characters throughout the story, you can't really compare this one as
AC's will of course be better since COD is more multiplayer focused.

Ok after all this in my opinion I think that both games are just fine and I have preoredered Revelations as well as MW3. Now for all of you who are saying COD milks and not AC, well you guys are just byist people who don't like COD so of course you are going to say it sucks compared to AC.

@#51: We agree that AC is being milked, but that is where you and I disagree. This game did NOT need MP. It ruined this franchise in my opinion and I have many, many other games to play in MP that are far, far better than the drivel that Ubisoft is serving up as a "bonus" (!!). As soon as AC added MP, I said to myself: "Welp, there goes that franchise!"

The game doesn't need it! It simply doesn't and it is a fact. MP sucks in that game and isn't fun LONG-TERM! Gears? Fun LONG-TERM! Halo? Fun LONG-TERM (if you can get passed the 8 year olds).

AC? NOT FUN!!!!!!!!

And so, I bid the franchise a sad good-bye, and I feel better for it. AC is ruined in my opinion.

@#54: Random internet goober thinks AC need multiplayer when it definitely doesn't. If sales makes a game great, then Call of Duty is the most amazing franchise ever...except that series is even worse than what AC has become. So no, sales don't prove me just proves that people are lemmings and don't speak their minds with their wallets to demand better. I would rather play My Horse and Me 2 than any future AC game that has multiplayer.

I have to say that I'm not really, really, really mad that they make one every year.If u think about it every cod game has at least 2 years worth of doing.Because Activision does one this year, then Treyarch, then Activision and it keeps going like that.

@HalfEVILmonkey Please shut up now, I don't know how many times you've posted your crap on this comments section but I think we all understand your opinion, which is that AC multiplayer is crap, and your buddy think its being milked. Firstly, your buddy should read No. 24's comment. The only game being milked is CoD, because of the ridiculous prices. People want more AC, so Ubisoft give it to them. Ubisoft are listening to the community. That's not milking a product, that's being a good games dev/producer.

And you think the MP is crap? That's your opinion. But since the majority of the community clearly liked it, Ubisoft are bringing it back. Simple. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Take your whinging somewhere else, I'm sure there's a AC haters forum somewhere.

I also love how as soon as the game gets a yearly release and multiplayer, everyone jumps on the 'milked' and 'turning a franchise into CoD' bangwagon. The single-player is still the main highlight of the game, and it's still brilliant. The multiplayer is a nice new addition, seeing as there aren't really any other multiplayers like it. It's satisfying and the system works smoothly. The only problem was the matchmaking, which has been fixed. I don't see what's not to like about the multiplayer. People say it's shit. Give me one reason why, instead of whinging. They say that it's been turned into CoD. The only similarity with CoD is that it has multiplayer. Wow. Since when did CoD have a compass guiding you to your target, and crowds of people to blend with? I assume you also get bonus points for taking down a target stealthily? No. I hate CoD just as much as the next gamer, and it's pretty insulting to see every new game that releases with a similar multiplayer, or a game that adds a multiplayer, become instantly branded a 'CoD rip-off'. CoD's shit. AC Multiplayer isn't (or that's what the large majority of people think). I respect you have an opinion, but you can't force it down other people's throats. ESPECIALLY if you have absolutely nothing to back it up. I've seen people say multiplayer is crap simply because they're shit at it. Get over it.

@57 You know what makes me yawn? Reading your comments. I just realized how much of a troll you are, scrolling through your comments. You only go on personal opinion, ignoring the fact that the majority of players love multiplayer, want a new release (yearly or not) and the sales of AC keep getting better. Ubisoft found that the community like MP, and sales are good. So why the fuck would they listen to one, pathetic little troll who thinks:
1) The MP achievements are stupid.
2) They are 'milking' AC.
3) They are becoming too much like CoD - by that I think you mean they are becoming successful and making money, yes?

I'm starting to sound like some sort of fanboy, but trust me, I'm not. I hate CoD, like AC, and seriously dislike trolls. Bye.

I like how fans of the multiplayer state that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, then shoot down anyone who doesn't like it. I don't honestly think asking for no multiplayer achievements is a lot to ask.
If the multiplayer is as popular as people say, then they'll play it anyway. I'm not a fan of COD in the slightest, but it does this right.

As someone who tries for 100% completion, I was particularly annoyed that, in Brotherhood, I had to play a multiplayer mode I hated from the outset. I love AC as a series, but I despised the multiplayer and having to play it.
As long as multiplayer achievements are ommited, I could play this game happily and not have to play a mode I cannot stand. It's really not a small favour to ask from fans of the series who hate it as much as I do.

I'm not prepared to get into another argument regarding the multiplayer with people who aren't prepared to hear anything I say, because I've done it before, become enraged, and it honestly isn't worth my time.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, after all. Just don't jump on the guys that share mine.

I agree with you completely man! The franchise has always been absolutely fascinating to me and the gameplay has always warranted tens of hours of play with the release of each new title. I think ommitting multiplayer achievements would restore a world of satisfaction to us fans of the singleplayer game. I'm aware that MANY fans of the AC franchise play it for the multiplayer, however, I'm not one of them. Just like your CoD titles, with the ommission of mp achievements, fans of the mp are still going to play the mp. Don't punish those of us that hate the mp any longer, please! lol

@41 In your eyes it may be so, but this is an achievement site. People have different preferences for obtaining achievements. I agree with you in that the person should at least play the game on a second account or maybe a friend's account, but that might a waste of time for the person when they could be playing a different game on their main gamertag.

@64 I couldn't agree more. I always loved the single player for AC, but I hated the multiplayer to Brotherhood ALOT. And no, it wasn't because I was bad at it as everyone says. I just found it very boring to wait forever to find a game, then sit there and play hide and seek. Not saying it was terrible. It just wasn't my style.

Also @64, still go for 100%? Because I quit that not too long ago. Too many DLC achievements on games now and grinding and luck based achievements lol. Also, I kinda have Black Ops on my list now. Don't really wanna pay retail price for DLC's.

I love the assassins creed games with fab grapics and story but its to short in ac 1,2 the story was long just write but stiil now you can compleate an assassins creed game over the weekend as its so short a game with co-op campaine and a long story like l.a noir would be the best in my opinion.
