Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Multiplayer Maps Revealed

Microsoft has revealed a host of multiplayer maps at Halo Fest today, all of which are playable at the big event. There's two reimagined battlefields and a brand new Firefight map for Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary and you can read the descriptions of all of them right here.

Here's descriptions for the two reimagined maps - Timberland and Prisoner - and the new Firefight map, Installation 04:

  • TIMBERLAND – Timberland is “Halo: Anniversary’s” beautifully re-imagined multiplayer map from “Halo PC,” set in the classically alpine environment so familiar to “Halo.” Once serving as a watch point for the immense relay complex below, the monitoring outposts nestled atop this ridge became a staging ground for human forces during their time on Installation 04. Toward the end of the conflict, a Covenant assault brought the marines here to a tragic end. Timberland is a tree-covered valley, sporting undulating hills, surging rivers, and a terrain perfect for large-scale vehicle mayhem. (8 - 16 players)
  • PRISONER – The return of “Halo: Combat Evolved’s” Prisoner delivers a claustrophobic and frenetic multiplayer experience now elaborately recreated for “Halo: Anniversary.” These spinning confinement platforms are a testament to the technological prowess of the Forerunners. In the event of a security breach, the facility’s suborbital location and frigid temperature were thought to be able to keep any threat at bay, but it appears those plans were… optimistic. Prisoner is a multi-level facility, with tightly-woven corridors and many bridges and ramps, perfect for the chaos of close-range combat. (2 - 8 players)
  • INSTALLATION 04 – Installation 04 brings fans back to one of the most iconic environments in “Halo’s” history, the base of an enormous Forerunner spire from “Halo: Combat Evolved’s” campaign mission “Halo,” now stunningly returning in “Halo: Anniversary’s” Firefight mode. Set on one of the many cliff sides of Alpha Halo, this beacon served as a rendezvous point for survivors of the Covenant attack on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn. These survivors, including the legendary Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, were forced to stave off numerous Covenant attacks until rescue finally came. Installation 04 is a familiar precipice studded with ancient Forerunner structures which make a perfect defensive position against an invading alien enemy and marks the first Firefight experience to include ally AI players who will defend the installation alongside you. (1 - 4 players)

And here's details on the previously announced fan favourite maps that have also made their debut at Halo Fest:

  • DAMNATION – A fan favourite multiplayer battleground from “Halo: Combat Evolved,” Damnation is impressively brought back to life with amazing detail. As the primary satellite of the Unggoy home world, Buwan provides the perfect environment for this massive Covenant hydro-facility used to power and refuel a variety of capital ships. Though still operational via automated subsystems, the station was abandoned shortly after the breaking of the Covenant. Damnation is an asymmetrical, multi-tiered complex, replete with long lines of sight and tightly-crafted choke points. (2 - 8 players)
  • BEAVER CREEK – The classic “Halo 2” multiplayer map Beaver Creek returns, tracing its roots back all the way to “Halo: Combat Evolved’s” legendary Battle Creek. The rocky warrens of this part of Halo provide the ideal environment for an array of impressive telemetry clusters. These spires’ synchronisation conduits ensure that the ring’s translocation grid is always fully operational. Beaver Creek’s symmetrical bases in a small, creek-fed canyon are excellent for both free-for-all and team-based game types. (2 - 8 players)

Halo: CE Anniversary's remade maps use the Halo: Reach engine and will be issued as DLC for Halo: Reach players. Reach will also be getting a title update in October, balancing some of the Armour abilities.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is out on November 15th, 2011 with stereoscopic 3D support.

I'm just disappointed in the "Title Update" with all the changes. Sorry but this is stuff that should've been taken care of by the Beta or shortly afterward. A year later and it proves that if you cry enough, you'll get your way.

I had issues and complaints but I dealt like it, like a normal adult. The game did not feel broken nor unplayable. I have sessions almost every day with nothing but good times regardless of frustrations. Now I get to play Halo Reach Jr.

Thanks girls.

I have to agree with you. The only thing I like about the update is that taking damage during armor lock actually reduces the time of the ability.

@ 9 -It completely defeats the idea of Armor Lock. It's easily countered too. Just stay away from that dude. He's easily audible coming in and out of it so pay attention to your surroundings until he lets it up. THAT EASY! It works for me 90% of the time (can't win em all).
Everyone makes AL to be like you have full mobility and invincible for half the match. It's b/c YOU'RE most likely the moron standing a foot away staring at the dude thinking "oh I got him now LULZ!!" and then you get shot from his team mate.

Apparently, that's the developers fault.

Common sense isn't so common after all.

The sword counter is perfectly fine the way it is. It's not foolproof and it's all about timing. Same with the AL problem.

@16 No, sword counter should not be in the game. Is there a shotgun counter? No. Rocket Launcher counter? Of course not. The sword is a power weapon and its not even that easy to use, but its a damn energy sword and it has to kill with one hit. Blocking a sword with your bare fist doesn't only sound dumb, it is dumb. It also makes the weapon 50% more useless, and blocking isn't that hard.

Glad it got away and the sword is a little stronger again.

@ 19 - It's a melee attack. You can't smack bullets away.

I consider it easy to use. Why? I took the opportunity to practice with it. Meaning, I used it more than often. I didn't go around just using the sword.

You're also nitpicking the realities of a science fiction video game. I say if they didn't fix it within the first couple months (or as said, after the Beta) then they should not have even bothererd.

They're supposed to FIX things like actual glitches and game breaking shit. Not put training wheels on a game that's already considered "Casual" in comparison to it's predecessors due to the change of ranking and exp earning.

I'll still play and attempt to enjoy it but this is just a sad turn of events IMO.

The bloom NEVER bothered me. I didn't even know what it was till Flibbity Floid explained it to me.

Armor Lock bothered me for a short time but eventually I got used to it. I heard they were reducing the cloaking time and they're removing the sword block. I'm not feeling this update.

"It's a melee attack. You can't smack bullets away. "
Just when I was about to ask you if you wan't to block sniper bullets away, but oh well.
For me, sword block was game breaking, altought not a glitch. Why even use a sword when everyone can block the attack away all the time? It happened to me a lot, you are better off with regular meele attacks.
Also I want to say something to "Not put training wheels on a game that's already considered "Casual" in comparison to it's predecessors";
You should be glad they are returning at least a little to the system of the predecessors by making the sword as powerful as it was in halo3 again. There wasn't any sword block in H3. Sword block made the whole issue pretty casual-
And last point from me, I don't get why the changes bother you, I'd say better they fix it now than never. Of course it was foolish not to fix all the stuff from the beginning, but at least we are going somewhere now.

Are you actually being serious? The title updates great!
No more Armour lock using camping ******.
You don't like the change? Boo hoo. Being rude to other players about it isn't going to change anything. There was obviously a big enough demand for them to have to nerf the power, whether you class that as 'crying' or not.
Finally I can exit my long exile to Team Swat... it's been too long...

@23 "The actual smart and logical thing to do would be either complain to the Developers outright (there are public email addresses all over the internet. Get off your ass.) instead of complaining in a website forum where your voice is either A) not going to be seen/cared about by Devs at all B) drowned out by arguments your opinion has sparked.

It's like throwing a pebble at a rhino and hoping you'll knock it out. You're doing nothing but blowing steam off."

These are your exact words on an earlier halo article.

@ 26 - B/c I was already used to the game as-is.

With the sword block, once you got the first one off it was hard as hell to get a second block off. I know b/c it's saved my ass a ton of time in Living Dead. As I said, it's not something that you could easily do. I just had more opportunity with it.

I'm glad that the plasma stickies don't bounce back off of AL anymore but AL is a protective barrier. Nobody seemed to complain about the Bubble Shield which was just as temporary but you could infiltrate it. Now, it's damageable and slowly heals.

And on your #30 post - As I said, while I'm a bit upset about it, I'm not going to cry and say "Change it back" (b/c i haven't and won't). I'll adapt like a big boy as I have but I'm very much allowed to get it off my chest if I want. It's not like I'm the only person on this side of the fence. It's more or less split right down the middle. I'm not bringing statistics into this. Everyone blows off steam. I'm just not demanding or advocating things go MY way.

Not sure why people are making a big deal out of this update, the update will be bringing these tweaks to a seperate set of Beta Hopper playlists, Reach's main playlists will remain unchanged even after Halo CEA releases, the only difference is that there will be lots more playlists to choose from that feature these new tweaks to bring Reachs MP gameplay more in-line with CE's MP (again only in certain dedicated playlists)

I don't care about fanboys, I am not one. I'm buying Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Halo: Anniversary as they are all amazing games and they are going to keep me busy over the holiday season.

OT: I loved Beaver Creek in Halo 2, so happy 'bout that. And as for the Firefight map, doesn't sound too bad, but I wanted the Flood Firefight map everyone was talking about a couple months back.

@every comment relating the TU

Armor Lock is fine the way it is, people just whine and cry about it all the damn time and looks like they finally gave in.

The melee block from the Sword requries skill and was fine. Although it does make sense where it should auto kill in 1 slash, I think it was fair. Plus most of the time the sword-carried still got the kill unless he got double teamed or something.

As for the maps. Isn't this supposed to be a remake? They are remaking the campaign... but releasing 6 maps? That's pretty bogus imo. But I bet you that the rest of the maps will be a DLC for the game.

I actually hope they are so at least we can play them with Reach graphics and XBL MP.

Hahaha. For one, all this complaint about bloom, I was thinking about Bloom lighting! Reticule bloom makes so much more sense even though I find it helpful. I know that a lot of people have been upset about it. About the armor lock, can someone tell me what the problem was? I always found it to be pretty well balanced an a really cool armor ability.
I'll be looking forward to this update and I'm really excited about AI's helping you out in CEA's Firefight mode.

So when they gonna nerf the jet pack? Talk about being OP, having a superjump in your back pocket, an what about sprint? Being able to run twice as quick to punch you in the face, c'mon.

I dont mind the AA, but I must say it was way more fun and balanced in the Beta than it is now or when the TU drops, whats the point in trying to make it like the previous models when the maps/gameplay wernt desinged for reach, it means they will be redesigned and wont be the same they where.

@33: The changes aren't in all the playlists.

As for defeating the purpose of armour lock - Good. It is a stupid idea. Sticks are one of the most fun and random ways to get a kill on Halo. I rarely even bother on Reach because of AL.

Tell me - how is it fun to out DMR a guy, and as soon as he knows he hasn't got a chance he goes into armour lock for 10 seconds? It does nothing but slow down gameplay.

No bloom=dmr is going to be straight up broke. I thought that was a realistic addition to the game. (not that that's what they go for mind you)

O my god people stop complaining about the update. Because they army going to be changing the whol game. They will be making special anniversary playlist for the update. Every other playlist will be exactly the way it is before the update.

Also befor fully implementing the changes they will be setting up a beta playlist to see what needs to be tweaked or changed back. So stop complaining and let them do there Job befor you start criticizing it. If you just have an open mind maby something that you don't really like will eventually become one of your favorit parts about the mp.

I know i'm late to this but I just wanted to say something to the first thing he said, can you block a lightsaber with your arm? I don't think so and i'm guessing the energy sword is like a lightsaber.

I've been a Halo fan since day 1 of Halo: CE's release.
I've loved every Halo game that's been made and I hope there'll be more games in the future especially side games like Halo 3: ODST was.

Cannot wait for Halo: CEA to come out and I hope they do a remake of Halo 2.

@ #75 - I'm with you.

I actually like armor lock as it is. Sometimes I throw it down and survive thanks to a teammate helping me out, but more often than not I'm just delaying the inevitable death. It's an element of strategy that doesn't break the game or give anyone an unfair advantage. Like my boy Flibbity said in one of his posts, most of the people complaining were probably those who got tunnel vision thinking they would wait out the lock and got shot up because they weren't paying attention.

I have no idea what the bloom thing is, I have no problem with the sword thing, and I hope the pistol only gets a small upgrade.

As for the maps in this game, sweet! Can't wait.

Here is the total list of maps.

1. Battle Canyon/Beaver Creek
2. Damnation/Penance
3. Timberland/Ridgeline
4. Prisoner/Solitary
5. Hang 'em High
6. Headlong

1. Installation 04

The multiplayer maps with two names are maps 343 Industries has stated can be played on Classic Mode. Meaning multiplayer with no Armor Abilities. For that more Combat Evolved feel. I read it on Halo Nation. Halo's Wikia page.

Happy these classic maps are coming back. Happy they adjusting AL too. I think it should be that way with damage bringing down the timer to move game play along. Don't like the sticky kill change though I think that defeats the purpose of one of AL's powers, being invincible.
