Rise of Nightmares Trailer is Scarily Silly

Out this week, Rise of Nightmares is looking like it won't exactly be your ordinary Kinect game, and this latest trailer even says as much. SEGA is clearly inviting the fact that the game is anything family-friendly fare, with buckets of blood, sharp weaponry aplenty and enough gleeful dismemberment to make Isaac Clarke feel a bit queasy.

The new video focuses on Rise of Nightmares' silly, balls-to-the-wall horror and how you control the game's using various arm gestures with Kinect, whether you' swinging a bludgeoning intrument of some kind, a chainsaw or even your bare fists.

Check out the Rise of Nightmares trailer right here, then look out for the game of Kinect-based terror later this week. That's September 6th in North America and September 9th in Europe.

  • worst commercial... ever -_-
  • Seems a bit over the top, and I'm not sure if it's in a good way.
  • Lol what the hell :P
  • You're not House of the Dead and you never will be.
  • Seems they're mostly just banking on the fact that it's a Kinect game with blood. I'm not sure it's going to pay off.
  • Kinect Bundle: Kinectimals, Penguins of Madagascar and Rise of Nightmares. Perfect for your toddler.
  • Good or bad, Im looking forward to giving it a try. It probably wont be AMAZING but if it takes me back to playing House of the Dead on dreamcast, Ill be happy!
  • lame.
  • Will be fruit ninja with zombies and shit instead of fruit
  • stupidest trailer ever
  • You guys going to review it?
  • Astonishingly contrived. I don't have high hopes for this being fun for more than 10 minutes, but I'll have a play around with it at GameFest in a couple of weeks.
  • I have just got myself Kinect for Xmas, still debating on whether to get this. Can't tell if it is good or bad. Does it have a demo?
  • What the fuck did i just watch?
  • Major problem with this game, it's never going to be creepy or scary as you can't play it in the dark, since you need a lot of light for the Kinect to register your movements
  • @13, a bit early for Christmas isn't it..?
  • well i'm getting it from gamefly, so if it is really horrible like every kinect game so far then i will just send it right back. but i bought the kinect, and i might as well try kinect games as they come out instead of not using it at all. But this game will most likely piss me off because of how bad it is. we shall see. so far the kinect is a total fail in my eyes
  • This or Dead Island. Hmmmmmm tough choice..... lol
  • @15 I dont know what your talking about, my kinect work just fine in the dark, sound like someone who dosent own a kinect...
  • @19 It does? Well MY kinect is always telling me it needs more light if I try and play it in the dark
  • This will be awesome. Now all MS needs to do is let companies make a gun peripheral and they can make house of the dead and time crisis for 360. IMO, this is how kinect should be used.
  • @16 or really late...
  • @22 Christmas in July?
  • And they all soon became serial killers. These guys are enjoying buckets of gore a little too much even for my liking.
  • yeah, wonder how the media reacts to people actually controlling a sadistic serial killer.
  • I want an actual scary game on Kinect... ah well I'll try this out anyway.
  • This vid was terrible. My guess is the game will be the same.
  • Dudes face in the still shot of the video is hilarious
  • you guys should watch the 2 vids on youtube by gamespot. ones 30 min the other 20 min. they talk about story,no rails, gameplay & more! this IS the game kinect needs! its open world, full characters & enviroments interaction. how you move is easy. stick one foot out to walk.twist upper body to view the area you want to walk to. open doors just like in real life. story is about a mad doctor who kidnaps your wife from the train. the people who die on the train are his experiments that are the bosses in the game. you can punch, kick, use weapons. its like dead island meets hostle. no rails unless you use the upper right icon.if you play on rails you miss 2/3rds of the game! so open world play is encouraged by the devs. cant wait till tomorrow.wont be putting this down! watch its a sleeper hit that should have come out at launch!
  • @29 Agreed, I have heard great things from previews! Ignorant people here aren't doing their research lol
  • @20 Perhaps the size of the TV matters? For example, a 55" TV will be a much larger light source than a 30" TV, so the Kinect Sensor will have an easier time of sensing you. However, I don't actually have a Kinect, so this is all theory. So far, nothing about Kinect has interested me. Hopefully this will change that. Except, I'll have no place for it in a college dorm...
  • I'm still gonna play this game, but that commercial was just awful. *Shudders*
  • @29 thanks man I'll check them out, was wondering if this was just gonna be a crappy on rails, but if its open world I'm in...
  • @30 true. It seems people are too eager to dog and put something down before trying or researching it. This video was not as good as the other two. The other two are actually funny. I do not have high hopes but as long as it controls well it should be fun. Preordered it.
  • I am a bit surprised but just read the first two reviews about the game, and they are at 8 or above. Review state he controls are great and best kinect game so far. Here is a link to one of them. http://www.gaming-age.com/review/xbox360/rise_of_nightmares
  • if you have problems playing kinect in the dark, rerun the tuner setup thing in the dark. youre supposed to run the tuner like 5 different times during the day to account for the different light levels
  • This actually looks pretty enjoyable. Still not enough to make me get a Kinect though.
  • @19 actually you sound more like someone that doesnt own a kinect, lighting issues have been a big problem for people, to the point people have noticed using energy saving bulbs is a big no no in certain rooms.
