Announced at the Tokyo Games Show earlier today, 343 Industries and Microsoft have confirmed that the classic Halo 2 'Headlong' multiplayer map will be remade as the 'Breakneck' map for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, bringing back the large-scale fan favourite map with updated visuals and high vantage points.
Snipers will find perfect spots upon the rooftops of the map's surrounding skyscrapers, looking down into the vast central basin where vehicular combat can take place. Breakneck will support multiplayer modes for 8-16 players. Furthermore, 343 also unveiled the opening level of Halo: CE at TGS, 'Pillar of Autumn', showing off the winding corridors of the eponymous starship in its newly remastered, high-definition form.
And finally, 343 also confirmed details of the upcoming title update for Halo: Reach, which will re-introduce the classic Halo Magnum pistol alongside classic playlists "designed to reignite the multiplayer mayhem players first enjoyed a decade ago," it says here. The update will also include fixes to balance the various armour abilities like Amrour Lock and Active Camo in multiplayer. Any Halo: Reach players with an XBL Gold Membership will be able to sample the title update in the beta from October 4th.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is out on November 15th in North America and November 18th in Europe. Here's a video of the remastered Headlong map, now known as Breakneck, from IGN's YouTube channel.
