Here’s a new trailer for Dark Souls, which hits next week.

From Software’s brutally difficult, quasi follow-up to Demon’s Souls is already doing decent business in Japan, shifting in excess of a quarter of a million copies during launch week.

You can check out the trailer below, in preparation for the dark fantasy, open-world RPG’s release on October 4th in North America and October 7th in Europe.

Anyone know whether there is an opt-out of pvp this time round?

Co-op was a hell of a lot of fun but people with pvp twinks ruined the online experience.

This game's visuals are stunning beyond belief, but I'm still hesitating to preorder it. There's something I just don't find appealing about "come get yer @$$ kicked" lol

I will probably use my amazon credit to get this eventually. I wish I could afford this and Rage but I had to choose one.

This, Saints Row 3 and Skyrim. Took the other bunch of games off, gunna use that money for a PVR, and a life size Zangetsu. (Sword from Bleach, and yes it is a real sword)

@7, I'm choosing Rage simply because, based on how hard this game is supposed to be, Rage will make me far less angry. The first one taught me that I don't need punishment from my entertainment.

My boner was killed by from what my understanding is a like a part-chat. Apparently the game kicks you to the main menu when you enter a party-chat session.

@11 Does it really matter? It's not like you have to talk to people whilst playing it. Damn, back in the retro days to talk to a friend whilst playing a game you'd have to phone them anyway, just enjoy the game instead.

On topic, this game will probably end up being my GOTY, with games like Uncharted 3, Skyrim and Gears 3 falling behind it, mainly because I'll spend more time and more rage on this alone anyway.

Plus holy crap, it looks fantastic graphically, MASSIVE step up from Demons Souls.

@12

It does matter. I enjoy talking to my friends while I play my singleplayer games. The only time I opt out is when one is heavily story driven. I hate people who use the "oh, we didn't have party chat and blah blah blah". Okay, we didn't have smartphones 8 years ago but I guarantee if you went back to a flip phone you wouldn't be happy.

I am torn. I am looking forward to this, but the "always online" aspect of it worries me very much. Invasions sounds like a pain, although it will depend on the personalities of the people who buy this. I guess you can just play it offline, but... damn, I just don't know what to think of it! It makes me mad to think of working so hard on a game like this, and then have a nasty kid burst in and kill me just like that.

Party chat would ruin this game, it's sense of foreboding loneliness would be lost and you'd miss a big part of the atmosphere. Unless you played demons souls you would have no way of knowing that, but trust me, nonparty chat enhances this particular experience

I played and beat Demon's Souls. Also, it doesn't matter. I shouldn't be forced to play the game one kind of way like that. It's different if it was an in game option, but it tampers with the outer input of the game. I want to sit with my friends and discuss what's going on while we're playing. I can still enjoy atmosphere with a party by me. By the way, you're making it seem way deeper than it actually is. "sense of foreboding loneliness", I mean, sure it's a pretty desolate game, but I can still comprehend that and enjoy that while discussing things with my bros.

At the end of the day, I'd rather actually play this game instead of bitching and moaning that "I can't talk to my friends while playing ='["

Well, that's you. If the option was there, you wouldn't have to take it. That's why it should be an OPTION.
