Rage
This Week's UK X360 Top 20 Charts
Written By
View author's profile

The unstoppable juggernaut that is FIFA 12 keeps on rolling this week, keeping new releases Rage and Dark Souls at bay, despite sales of the title dropping by 68%. Gears of War 3 also drops another place as sales slip by 65%. Rage makes a strong debut at number 2 this week, whereas the ultra-hardcore Dark Souls does well too, slipping into a comfortable position at number 4.

NBA 2K12 also makes its way into the charts this week, building upon the success of its predecessor, debuting seven chart positions higher in the all-format charts than NBA 2K11. In the lower portion of the charts meanwhile, little has changed, with a bit of place swapping going on and not much else.

Take a look at this week's top 20 charts for the full story:

@1 - I understand that FIFA will take the top spot for a while, as the world has a weird obsession with people kicking a ball around. However, I hope that Gears will eventually reclaim the place it deserves. Though, with Skyrim, Battlefield, MW3 and AC: Revelations closing in; it's going to be a hell of a fight. Whichever gets a price drop first, will probably win.

FIFA was always going to win this week and probably will top the charts until MW3.

Gears will jump back into 2nd next week with Rage falling after a good first week.

@5 I completely agree I don't see the obsession with kicking a pigs bladder on a field. I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels that way!

OT:Gears really deserves that top spot I wouldn't mind so much if rage took that position.

why are my fellow brits soo absessed with kicking a round object around a field.

they should just get the janitor to come out to the middle of the field, shake his keys and go 'ooooooooooo look at the shiney shiney' and he would probably get the same response.

dark souls deserves to be up there, havent played rage yet though

Gears of War will keep selling, gents. Have no fear. 3m sold already? I think it is fair to call it a smash hit. I am only worried about Batman. That game has seemingly picked the busiest time for blockbusters in a LONG time to come out.

Love how people have to slag football off. They can’t just say they don’t like it. They have to start slagging it off even though they have never kicked a ball.

The same theory could be said about sitting there with a piece of plastic in your hand for hours on end.

Grow up.

I get the feeling certain people do not like me. The only derogatory comment that I have made is about Football and I have the most thumbs down, as of now. :P

I didn't realise so many of you enjoyed one of the main sports that turns regular people into down right animals, capable of inflicting pain and suffering on fans of another "team"...

@14 - I hate to correct you, but I have played football before. I didn't like it. You don't see us getting defensive about holding that piece of plastic, though.

Maybe the football fans (of which, I'm sure you are one) need to grow up and stop pretending that their team defines their country, and the little cup they are given for winning is the most important thing in history. It's not very often that a gamer kills another gamer for beating them at a game, but there's thousands - millions, even - of documented football riots, with death and destruction a common outcome. If that's not a very barbaric, childish reaction to a game, then I'd love to know what is.

Ok, this coming from a massive FIFA fan; I did not expect that at all. First week, sure FIFA godstomps everything in the UK. But with all the pre-orders and week one purchases out of the way, how does it still beat an anticipated AAA title? And basketball doesn't seem to be very popular in the UK lol.

@16 5 rants now Callum. On a weekly UK games chart. Keep up the good work.

Every time I come on here I’m seeing you type countless words deviating from the topic , attacking others. You're the new Floid.

@Mods we need a word limit and a post limit. People seem to have nothing better to do then reply upon reply upon reply. Seemingly thinking the more letters they use the more intelligent they come across.

@16 I'm guessing the irony of telling people to grow up for being a sports fan, in the same thread where you're discussing sales figures of video games and talking about how one deserves to sell more than another and how it will 'reclaim it's rightful place' is lost on you...?

Also, I think you're pulling 'facts' out of your arse somewhat with your 'Thousands, millions even - of documented football riots' comment. They may have been rife in the 70s and 80s, but Football has cleaned it's act up majorly in the last 20 years, especially in the UK, and considering the number of matches played each weekend, trouble is a minimum.

Stick to discussing things you know something about. Which according to this thread rules out Sports and Gaming.

For non-Europeans (like me), this comes as some huge shock. Remember people, these are the UK charts. Im sure in America FIFA ain't number 1. Not to say it's a bad game of course, but it'd be like when Madden is number 1 in America, is anyone truly shocked? Not here, but I'm sure in Europe they're throwing around football insults like we through around futbol insults.

@14 How do you come to the conclusion that because people don't like football they have never kicked a ball? I got some news for you - different people have different tastes. If people don't like football they are entitled to say so. FIFA is just another copy and past of the previous games with slight changes to the teams and controls. If you want to stump up cash for that then be my guest. But don't whinge because people hate on your beloved game.

Aaron114, RancidSkank and Words of the few - You guys must love me, as you are all quick to try to insult me. I must say, I'm impressed with your consistency. As Aaron said; "Keep up the good work".

As I don't feel like having to completely own Words of the few again, and the other two are barely even worth my time (I'm sure Aaron needs to look through the dictionary for more of those cute swear words to include in his forum posts and RancidSkank needs to take a few hours to think up more clever responses to my posts), I'll leave you gentlemen to enjoy your "victory".

I believe I have an appointment with this Floid fellow, as we need to go over my taking his place.

@55 Seems you have had some troubling times on this site. I’m sure as a community based site we can all send you a written apology for these hardships , I’m sure they have nothing to do with you at all.

So anything you want to add to the conversation? What’s your views on football? Do you think that it’s a fundamental consistency within schools that raises the kind of football culture we have these days? They say that because it’s a very simple game to teach it becomes widely available in schools across the country , it’s also incredibly cost effective to emulate (jumpers for posts anyone) Therefore can be played with minimal ease out of academic studies. We also have the back-end of the "issue" were we idolise football players and they become role models to kids. Unfortunately then you have to argue the theory that role models can’t be changed. E.g. you could idolise Gary linker one decade the next Wayne Rooney yet the lasser gives off a much different message then the former. Then I suppose you could argue the poverty aspect of football. whenever there is a world cup/Euro cup a lot of poor areas hang flags out their windows to symbolize some form of relationship with a current event; to distract them from "hardships" within their lives. All these factors contribute to a the football culture we love and hate and could ultimately be the bi-product of fifa being number one this week.

That... or its pretty good.

I will add to the conversation and give you my views on football, sky television has all but killed our national sport, making the premiership the most lucrative league in the world ,they have given clubs the power to buy who they want pushing english players on to the subs bench, whilst international stars play week in week out.
they should imedietly (sp) revert back to the days when you could only field 3 forgein players.

@58 It is good but the lack of functionality on the menus let it down. The servers are piss poor and the amount of data it tries to load up makes the menus slower then slow. There is also an option to speed your players up making it’s a bit stupid.

I can’t comment on the UT as you need to connect online to get on them and it always cuts out for me.

I agree , Televised sport has ruined the game. It costs me 42 quid to watch a football match match/ I only bother to go to 3 o clock kick offs now because its insanely cheaper to watch it on sky. Even then I’ve been known to watch the odd dodgy channel in the pub!

Don’t even get me started on early Saturday morning kick offs. All tailored to suit Sky.

The issue with home-grown talent is fundamental. We teach kids at the academies to plough through the other team pick up the ball and score a goal. I’ve even heard reports that you are judged on your size/stature before you even kick a ball in this country.

Dark Souls at four? Really? I honestly thought there was more hardcore RPG gamers on this site, I guess I was wrong. Still, the game is bloody amazing. So much content. 10/10

Football is the UK's national most popular sport, and FIFA is also a very well made game, it always sells well. C.O.D is the only FPS franchise that can compete with it. Pity because Gears 3 is a really great game. Not Surprised Rage debuted at #2, I've seen adverts for it on practically all the Sky channels I watch.

The top 4 is as expected in my opinion. Fifa is a big thing in England due to it being football.

@59, spot on,I dread to think whAt sky are going to come up with after that landlady won her court case,if sky can't stop foreign broadcasters in this country, I'm sure they will stop selling them the rights, and make the difference up by charging us more.
That's the murdochs for you.
Also F.A need someone to have a word with them,7 million a year for a foreign coach , are you kidding me, put him on performance related pay ,them maybe, just maybe,he will give a shit about what he's doing.
Oh I'm getting mad, I'm off to clam down with a carling.

@5 - I understand that Gears will remain near the top for a while, as the world has a weird obsession with oversized beefy men rolling around with a shotgun. However, I hope that Saints Row: The Third will claim the top spot it deserves. Though, with Skyrim, MW3, Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary and AC: Revelations also closing in; it's going to be one hell of a fight. Whichever sells the most copies in the first week, will probably win (MW3).

It's all subjective with a few facts here and there.

Quoting #19;

@Mods we need a word limit and a post limit. People seem to have nothing better to do then reply upon reply upon reply. Seemingly thinking the more letters they use the more intelligent they come across.

Perfectly sums up what he himself has just done... and I only read half of it.

Obligatory OT; @9 It doesn't stop Black Ops still being in the charts, unfortunately :(

Also, I have no idea why Callum's comment at #6 has so many 'thumbs down'.
He hasn't said anything wrong at all there, in fact, he's pointed out something that should be an an obvious improvement for this website and the dozens of occurrences whereby such a function would be highly appropriate.

We can manage an almost redundant 'thumbs up, thumbs down' voting system,
yet an edit function cannot be incorporated?

Ironically, the point he has brought to the forefront would have been highly useful at this juncture, as I would have been able to edit my comment above, and save a bit of space.

I mean, the votes received on comment #6 not only say a lot about some of the members on this website, but also the complete IRRELEVANCY of the 'comment voting system' itself.

As for the arguments showcased upon this article..

LOL

Wow. Go Fifa. No, really.

However, I am disappointed Halo Reach is in 20th place. No doubt it'll be out of the top 20 come next week. But I hope Anniversary will rekindle some interest in what I consider to be the 360's flagship franchise

Sorry to repost.
I would like to agree with the argument that we need an edit button. It's Dr Popodopolus (that's fun to say) that I was commenting to on my previous post.
Also, I'd like to point out that the person that getting ragged on, Callum X360a, has something near 5,000 forum posts. That is a number well over the combined total of all the other comments on this thread. And you can look at it another way, that he is one of the guys answering your questions when you need help with an achievement. So maybe show his opinion a little respect.
