The Amazing Spider-Man Tie-In Game Found Stuck to a Wall

Having recently shipped Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Activision and developer Beenox are working on the next Spider-Man title already, and predictably, it's a game that will tie-in with the 2012 movie reboot starring Andrew Garfield as Spidey/Peter Parker, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors AKA The Lizard.

The game's existence was verified via an Amazing Spider-Man poster spotted by IGN at the New York Comic-Con, sporting the Activision and Beenox logos, confirming that as you'd expect, a movie tie-in game is in development and on the cards. And if anyone knows Spidey games, it's Beenox, the studio behind Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time.

There's no release date on the poster, but one would assume that The Amazing Spider-Man the video game will be released to coincide with the movie, which releases in the multiplexes on July 4th, 2012. Here's the web-slinging poster:

Edge of Time was disappointing and the next game amazing Spider man doesn't sounds good especially considering it's based movie. Still it's too early judge, wishing it's more free roam this time

I wonder who changed his gloves. The movie, or the game?

Just like #5 said, it should be free roam just like spidey 2 and spidey web of shadows. After hearing the reviews of edge of time, beenox should put their best efforts into this spiderman game great.Hopefully their able to do this so I can happily buy this day 1

I would love some First-Person elements like they had in the trailer for the film, that looked amazing. A movement system like Mirrors Edge but with wall crawling and web swinging would make this a must-buy to me.

Too bad Activision forced Beenox to churn out the awful piece of shit that was Spider Man: Edge of Time, or else they might have had time to make this a decent game.

We are all aware that this game will suck, right?
I mean, I love Spider-Man, really enjoyed the last two Beenox titles over the entire library of previous Activision published titles, but come on.
Movie-tie in games are just cursed. Especially from this Publisher.
Poor future under-developed Spider-Man... Poor Men in Black...

Spiderman has SO much potential. It actually annoys me to see nobody seeing how brilliant this game would be to take on and actually make brilliant. Look at Batman, nobody thought a new hero game would come along like that and be so good and then bam, AA was here. We need it to happen to Spidey so much!

I agree with 14, movie title games have a history of being poor. I'm not sure what's worse, films that become games? Or games that become films!

Big marvel fan, so I hope the game does well

@ 1 - I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet especially with no gameplay previews. Spiderman 2 is still one of the best licensed (film adaptation) Marvel games to date.

Spidey is the only one to come out on top with more than one film tie in. Spidey 3 just wasn't as good as 2.

I just don't like that the image up there kind of looks like they tried to blend in 2099 elements.

I hate that they are remaking it yet again. They should just continue he story from Spider Man 3 and add some Carnage and likes. Definitely not excited for the movie, but curious about the game...

@ 19 - But they completely BOTCHED the shit out of 3!! Hell, the whole series from the start. Tobey played a good young Parker. They should've replaced him right after the first flick.
- Gwen Stacy is Parkers first love. Not MJ.
- Topher Grace referred to himself as Brock JR. as well as never speaking in the 3rd person nor referring to "themselves" as Venom. It was just a symbiote character to me.
- The Sandman was always a crook. Not some petty lowlife looking to feed his family.

I could go on but that series was aimed for failure after the first flick.

I'm much more excited except this isn't considered a "reboot". It's kind of going to be like Incredible Hulk where it's a continuation but there's little mention of what happened prior.

I love Spiderman and Marvel, so I try to play those games whenever I can. I loved Spiderman 2 so much and enjoyed Web of Shadows. I missed Shattered Demensions but rented Edge of Time last week, it's a pretty cool game. I'm looking forward to the movie, I was a little upset when I heard they decided to restart everything though. But it'll probably be a good movie along with a good game.

I don't like the premise of this movie, to be honest. Why didn't they continue with Spider-man 4? Maguire is a way better actor than Garfield, imo.

@24 They didn't make Spider-Man 4 because the director Sam Raimi was trying to make the movie, but he left the project because he thought he couldn't make it by the planned release date. Around the time of the movie's cancellation, Sony announced the reboot. I don't know the new actor, but I don't think he'll be good as Tobey. But I'm glad they picked Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy though.

@26 - Most movie tie-ins are rushed.

This is already in development, and the movie isn't out until next year. Most likely in the summer.

So it should be good.

I say scrape this one and the last (current) one and make one that revolves around the Noir Spider-man from Shatter Dimensions.

@ 18

Hey, hey now! I know it wasn't as good as it could have been, but I thoroughly enjoyed Origins (and not just because my boy Logan was in it).

Spider-Man 2 was my favorite movie-game tie in. Smooth web slinging acrobatics, solid combat, and a good group of awesome villans. Side missions didn't have too much variety and going to the shop to buy more moves could get annoying, but other than that, pretty solid. They got a decent amount of the original cast to come and do voice acting too if I'm not mistaken.

@20 Have you been following this movie at all? Peter Parker is in high school, Uncle Ben is alive, Peter gets bitten by a spider and gains powers. It is most definitely a reboot.

@18 Yeah you make some good points. I havn't played any of the film versions but I will try before this comes out. Played Ultimate Spiderman which was tiresome but had some good points and am currently playing Friend or Foe.

I never really hate playing as Spider-man so doubt I'll find any game too bad. Though I like games that reference lots of other Marvel characters like Shattered Dimensions.

Agree with the film too. It needed a reboot and the Lizard will be awesome. Also Garfield as Parker will be good. Spidey 3 was terrible. Thats what happens when you listen to fans and stick in Venom.

Doc Ock in 2 was excellent though!

if they take not from the Spider-Man 2 movie game and then make it more "amazing" then it could be decent. However this is Marvel...nuff said

Spider-man on the PS1 was amazing.

Spider-man 2 on the PS2/xbox was amazing.

Let's hope there's one more amazing Spider-man game this generation!

As I posted in the game's new forum, there's a (pirated) video up of the NYCC teaser:

I'm hoping Edge of Time came out under-developed because Beenox has been working on this for 1-2 years. Would love a return to open world, but also feel that Beenox has done a great job with Spidey villains and all-around fan service. Combine the best of SM2 and SM:SD, and it could be the best yet.

That said, I don't like Spidey's new suit (what's with those sneakers in the teaser?), and am not encouraged by Garfield's casting...he seems rather emo, as Maguire was rather wooden.

@ 32 - It's only what I've heard. Andrew Garfield was saying that it's going to reflect some of what happened in the Tobey series but not directly. Trust me, nobody wants a complete reboot on this more than me. Spidey is my #1 Marvel hero and Raimi tarnished it.

@ 33 - Friend or Foe was an interesting "toned down" MUA feel. I suggest Web of Shadows but it takes some patience. The first 2 acts are kinda boring after a while especially after how it starts out but the 3rd act is a nice payoff. That aside, the boss battles are pretty sweet.
