Kotaku are reporting that the newly-announced GTA V will be set in a version of L.A. and will feature more than one playable character.
Citing “a source familiar with the game,” the blog has little in the way of direct quotes or concrete information. It does, however, point out that Rockstar is highly-familiar with L.A., after Midnight Club, GTA: San Andreas and L.A. Noire featured representations of the city.
They also suggest that multiple playable characters is a direction Rockstar have been going in for some time, following the PSP spin-offs and the GTA IV DLC, all of which allowed you to play as a different character within a pre-existing world.
We’re not entirely convinced. Besides anything else, Rockstar’s familiarity with L.A. would surely be less of a reason to set the game there, not more. GTA games are hardly known for playing it safe. The multiple characters thing seems plausible though.
We’ll see for sure next week. The announcement trailer hits on Nov. 2nd.
