Rising Star Games has announced that it's bringing CAVE's hardcore arcade shmup Akai Katana Shin to Europe next year in a continuation of the partnership between the developer and publisher. The game will be remastered from the original arcade version for HD TVs with widescreen high-definition visuals.
“There is always something special about a CAVE game,” said Rising Star Games' Martin Defries. “And Akai Katana Shin is no exception. It’s an exceptional shooter, which looks stunning in HD, and we’re delighted to be able to give it the full Rising Star Games treatment when we release it next year.”
Set in a future Japan that's expanding at a record-breaking pace, the people in Akai Katana's fictional era discover a new natural resource named 'Guiding Ore' that can be tempered into blades called 'Guiding Katanas' that imbue the wielder with psychic powers. Emperor Basho gets hold of one of these so-called 'blood swords' and wages war, meaning you and a small band of rebels must stand against him.
This sets the stage for Akai Katana Shin, as you struggle against Basho's forces in a quest for justice. A good excuse to blow loads of stuff up if ever we heard one. Akai Katana Shin will be published by Rising Star Games and coming to Europe in 2012.
