Microsoft Solitaire Collection - Achievement Guide - Every Point Counts

There are 20 achievements with a total of 200 points.
 Well Played (10 points)
Win your first game of Solitaire

The easiest card gametype to play, is "Spider". Just stack the cards from King to Ace, and try to get all the cards off the board. If you make a move that makes your stack unsolvable, the game will tell you that you lost, and you'll have to restart. You can use the "Hint" feature at any point, but keep in mind, it won't always give you the best move. I suggest that you leave the hint for parts where you're stuck or unsure of a good move. Take your time to solve a stack to unlock this achievement.

 First One's Free (10 points)
Flip over your first card

From the main menu, click on any gametype, and then click on a card. Use "Hint" if you're not sure where to click.

Jack of All Trades (20 points)
Play at least 1 game of Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, TriPeaks, and Pyramid

This achievement should take about 1 minute. From the main menu, click a gametype, flip a card, and back out to the main menu. It will count as a loss, and ask you if you are sure you want to quit. Cycle through the 5 gametypes and keep quitting and you'll unlock the achievement.

The 5 gametypes are:

  • Klondike
  • FreeCell
  • Spider
  • TriPeaks
  • Pyramid
 Flipping Out (10 points)
Flip Over 10,000 Cards

This is a cumulative achievement. At this point, it's unclear if the daily challenges count towards this total. You may very well unlock it while working towards "King Of The Hill," especially if you focus on Klondike games. If you decide to grind it out, Klondike is easily the fastest way to do it. Set up the game so that you're flipping one card at a time and then simply continue cycling through the deck over and over again. There's no limit to how many times you can go through the deck, so continue until you get bored and then finish the game. Do not quit out. The achievement unlocked for me when I finished a game that I'd won, but I don't think that winning the game is a requirement for the flipped cards to count towards your total.

If you have a W8 PC, you can also record a macro that will allow you to automate this process. There are a number of different programs available, so choose your favorite.

 Came To Play (5 points)
Play your first Daily Challenge

See "Came to Win."

 Came To Win (5 points)
Win your first Daily Challenge

The daily challenges are a series of scenarios that are released every day. Each set contains a challenge for each of the five play types. The difficulty ranges from one star (easy) to four stars (expert). For this achievement and "Came to Play," simply load up a one-star challenge and complete it. The easy challenges should be no problem whatsoever. If you're having trouble with one day, you can also go back to previous challenges from that same month by tapping the calendar icon to view all the challenges for that month.

 Gimme Five! (5 points)
Play the Daily Challenge 5 days in a row

This achievement simply requires you to play daily challenges for five consecutive days. You do not need to complete every challenge for every day or even win them - just log in and play.

Importantly, make sure the date on the start screen matches the actual date. I strongly recommend that you start up the program from scratch every day. If you don't, the tracker may not count your activity on the correct day.

 Marathon (10 points)
Come back each day of an entire month and complete at least one Daily Challenge

This is very similar to "Gimme Five!" but extended out for an entire month. Again, you don't have to finish every challenge on the day that it's released, but you do need to finish at least one on that day that it comes out, every day, for a month.

 All Decked Out (5 points)
Create and Save A Theme

Simply swipe over the "Theme" screen and click "Create a new theme." Adjust the style however you like and then click "Save." The achievement will unlock once the new theme is saved.

King Of The Hill (10 points)
Win 100 games of Klondike, Spider, or FreeCell

This achievement is for winning 100 games of Klondike, Spider, OR FreeCell. Mixing and matching will not work. It has to be one hundred wins in a single category. You can keep track of your wins in each play type on the "Statistics" screen.

Daily challenges do not count towards this total.

There are two easy ways to go about this.
1. Play Klondike. I think it's the easiest of the three game types and you'll almost certainly unlock "Flipping Out" along the way.

2. Find a particular FreeCell game that you can complete quickly and then replay it over and over again. Each win will count towards your total even though it's the same game multiple times. You can set your game number (appears in the top right corner of the game) by starting up FreeCell, bringing up "Settings," and clicking "Game Options." At the very top is a field where you can enter a specific game number.

Good To Be King (5 points)
Play a game of TriPeaks and Pyramid in which a King is the last card you remove from a board

Again, daily challenges do not count for this achievement.

For Pyramid, you can see your deal and you'll immediately know if the top card is a King, so you can just redeal until you get a favorable setup. Once you have a deal, win the game, taking the King off last.

For TriPeaks, it's all luck. Keep playing until a King is the last card to come off the board.

 Classic Speed Run (10 points)
Get your fastest win times in Klondike, Spider, and FreeCell to add up to 10 minutes or less

You can track your win times in the "Statistics" screen. To unlock this achievement, the combined fastest win times for those three game types have to add up to less than ten minutes. You may unlock this without trying, but once you focus on trying to win as quickly as possible, you'll soon be able to finish games in under three minutes with a favorable draw. There's an element of luck here, but it's easily done.

 “Board” Yet? (5 points)
Clear 100 Boards from TriPeaks or Pyramid

Unlike "King of the Hill," this achievement is a combined total. I unlocked it with 12 wins in Pyramid and 88 wins in TriPeaks. Pick your favorite game type and keep playing until you've cleared 100 boards. Notice that you can clear multiple boards within a single game. You can track the number of boards that you've cleared on the "Statistics" screen.

Again, daily challenges do not count towards this achievement.

Go for the Bronze (10 points)
Win 12 bronze Daily Challenge badges

See "Go for the Gold."

Go for the Silver (15 points)
Win 10 silver Daily Challenge badges

See "Go for the Gold."

Go for the Gold (25 points)
Win 8 gold Daily Challenge badges

These are the long achievements. As you complete daily challenges, you'll earn points towards medals. The exact number of points needed for each medal varies by month, but you'll need to complete around 60% of the challenges to get a gold medal. You can only get one of each type of medal per month, so it'll take eight months to unlock "Go for the Gold," ten months for "Go for the Silver," and a full year to get "Go for the Bronze.

You can track your unlocked medals by clicking on 'Prize History.'

 Diamonds are Forever (10 points)
Win a diamond Daily Challenge badge

A diamond badge is just like the bronze, silver, and gold medals, but requires roughly 85% of the challenges to be completed to get the necessary points. Fortunately, you only have to do this once.

 Strive for Perfection (10 points)
Complete every Daily Challenge in a month

A perfect banner is earned by finishing every single daily challenge in a given month. If you're good at the game, you can do this on your own. Some of the expert challenges can be quite trying, so I frequently found myself looking for solutions on YouTube. Just search for the challenge date. This achievement will unlock once the last challenge has been completed. At this point, it doesn't appear that you can go back and earn this retroactively for a previous month.

 Become a Star (10 points)
Complete an entire pack of challenges in the Star Club

The Star Club is another collection of challenges. You start with access to the Classic Collection. The Collection contains ten packs, each of which has twenty possible stars available spread across ten individual challenges. Once you've completed all ten challenges in a given pack, you'll unlock this achievement.

 Become a Superstar (10 points)
Complete an entire collection of challenges in the Star Club

Completing a collection means finishing all ten packs within that collection. Since each pack has ten challenges, you're looking at completing one hundred challenges to finish an entire collection. The first one you have access to is the classic collection and it contains challenges from all five game types. Again, some of the challenges can be tricky, but many of the harder ones have solutions available on YouTube.
