Introduction

Welcome to the Gamerscore League Hall of Fame! Here you will find information about the history of Gamerscore League on XboxAchievements.com, as well as plenty of statistics, final team scores, and other goodies. I have personally spent an entire six weeks recreating as much information as possible. This meant manually counting every single achievement and adding up all gamerscore for every single GSL possible, for every single individual. This means that some stats will not be 100% accurate, because some data just wasn't available and I am human, after all. Regardless, I hope you enjoy a walk through XBA's greatest gamerscore earners of all time.

What is Gamerscore League?

Gamerscore League (henceforth referred to as 'GSL') is a tournament held once a year where teams compete to earn the most gamerscore in a given time frame. Today there are no special rules; just work together as a team to outscore your opponent. GSL started in 2006 and actually ran 3-4 times a year until 2008. From 2008 to 2023, GSL was held once a year around spring with a few exceptions. The final GSL tournament took place in October 2023. There have been 22 Gamerscore League events, all detailed below!

Gamerscore League History

  •

  • GSL 1-4: Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of information I can provide on these leagues. The forums with pertinent information were deleted long, long ago. From what I can tell from Wayback digging, The idea was brought about in the summer of 2006 by XBA user Flea. Former admin Minty approved the idea and GSL 1 started in the summer of 2006, running for 12 weeks. The next GSL began immediately afterwards, with little break in between, until users began asking for larger breaks after GSL 4. GSL 1 was won by Knights of the Full Circle, with Flea taking overall MVP. GSL 2 and 3 were won by Wreckon Dracgon and his unstoppable Knights of the Old Republic team. GSL 4 only has a sliver of information I could pull. It ran for seven weeks, sometime in mid 2007. Based on posts by GSL director Flea, it could have ran from August 5, 2007 to September 23, 2007. Wreckon and his Knights sat out in GSL 4, allowing Stallion83 and Krazie's team The Revolution to take first place with 56,109 total team score.

  • GSL 5: Ran from November 15, 2007 to February 15, 2008 with Christmas Break off (13 weeks, one bye week). 10 GSL Captains from the previous GSLs were chosen by the director, as well as three new captains with good forum standing. This included high scorers, forum staff, and subscribers. Captains hand picked two teammates, and then chose two more teammates in a snake draft format to form teams of 5. The rest of the players not chosen were allowed to sub for any team, should a member decide to drop out. Despite many complaints from previous leagues, GSL 5 had something called weekly capping. This meant a team could only score 9,000 gamerscore weekly towards their total. Any team who hit the cap for all twelve weeks were then uncapped and allowed two additional days to duke it out for the win. This led to controversy, as one team missed the cap in week 3 by a very small amount, forcing them to place third even though uncapped, they had a chance to win. GSL 5 was won by Knights of the Old Republic, who became three time champs after winning GSL 2 and 3. Their final un-capped score was 164,704.

  • GSL 6: Ran from June 6, 2008, to August 1, 2008 (eight weeks). Once again team captains were chosen by the director and allowed to hand-pick two teammates. After that, captains chose three more participants from a snake draft to form a six player team. Subs were once again allowed for anyone who wished to drop out of the competition. Because of the massive controversy surrounding capping, it was eliminated from the GSL competition. Once again trying to do something different, GSL 6 featured elimination. For the first four weeks, the teams were instructed to score as much as possible. At the end of week four and five, the bottom team in total score was eliminated. For week six and seven, the remaining teams entered a playoff style face off, where two more teams were eliminated. This left two weeks for the top 3 teams to duke it out for whoever scored the most. In the end, The Silent Assassins took home first place with 162,841 total gamerscore. GSL 6 was once again not without controversy, as the overall MVP was found to have cheated in multiple games during the last two weeks. This is why there is was no overall MVP award given out for GSL 6. For posterity, that user scored 39,715 gamerscore during the eight week event. The DQ'd team was promptly given third place, since everything scored by that player in the first six weeks to escape the playoffs was legit. It should be noted that reigning GSL champions Knights of the Old Republic completely sat out of GSL 6, no doubt prepping to massacre the competition in the next GSL.

  • GSL 7: Ran from February 18, 2009 to April 8, 2009 (eight weeks). GSL 7 was the beginning of simpler times, with users allowed to form any six man team they wanted. Gone were the days of hoping to be chosen by the captains of the high scoring teams. During this competition, only five out of six members were allowed to count scores each week, with each member of the team being forced to take two weeks off. Wreckon Dracgon once again assimilated his juggernaut team KOTOR, taking first place by a landslide. His teammate and GSL newcomer Korix took home overall MVP with 50,486, becoming the first person to ever score 50,000 gamerscore in a single GSL. KOTOR also became the first team to break 200,000 gamerscore with a massive 201,102 earned in eight weeks. If there is one thing synonymous with drama, it is the Gamerscore League. As you can imagine, allowing just about anyone to participate led to over ten people just flat out quitting, which caused three teams to completely drop out. Other teams unknowingly recruited members who threw on purpose because they didn't believe it was worth competing against the God squad KOTOR. At the end of GSL 7, Wreckon Dracgon retired from his role as GSL director and future competitions. Regardless of the reasons, Knights of the Old Republic cemented their name in history with a massive four GSL wins. That record remains untouched today.

  • GSL 8: After all the drama and losing the GSL director, former administrator Creech was tapped to become the Gamerscore League director. GSL 8 was only open to staff and subscribers, and casual members of XBA were not even informed of the event. This tournament ran from November 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009. Listening to the cries of hardcore GSL members, Creech threw out all the annoying rules and GSL became "score as much as possible in the given time frame as a team of four." Right out of the gate, there were two favorites to win the tournament: Team Montana led by former admin Minty, and AWO led by rival admin Krazie. Both teams were in a dead heat for the first month of the tournament, when Creech discovered that a member of Team Montana had previously used game saves on his profile before the tournament started. Montana was allowed to continue, but Vendetta's score was removed and the team dropped from 1st to 3rd. Through extreme perseverance, All Your Achievements Are Belong To Us continued to grind and surpassed AWO midway through December on route to the victory in GSL 8 with a final score of 105,141. Overall MVP was Minty, who continued to rally gamerscore after losing his teammate. He scored 47,859 and kept his team of "2,1" members in third place, continually joking about carrying dead weight Webb. GSL 8 was widely considered to be the most drama free event in history, as the banter was friendly all throughout the event. This includes the disqualified member, who owned up to his mistake and continued to cheer the competition on.

  • GSL 9: GSL 9 ran from September 11, 2010 to October 31, 2010 (seven weeks). This time, GSL was made public again, but with a catch. Only staff, subscribers, representers, and tier 2 donators were allowed to participate, in teams of four. This allowed users to join in as long as they were supporters of XBA in one form or another. Despite a flood of new participants, Minty's team Our Mistress Lets us Play Games went on a rampage of Japanese Xbox titles and broke the GSL record with a team score of 234,487. Overall MVP was Asian47, who managed to amass 75,420 gamerscore in just seven short weeks. Special shout out to user JB x360a for posting every single person's score into a single thread. Without him, I would not have been able to bring you the complete scores for GSL 8, so thanks so much! For a second time, an entire GSL competition had gone off without a hitch and very minimal drama.

  • GSL 10: Ran from September 10, 2011 to October 31, 2011. The same exact rules applied from the previous GSL, so as long as you supported XBA, you could participate. GSL 10 produced the biggest turnout yet, with 19 teams of four showing up to battle. These included gamerscore titans Stallion83 and smrnov, both allowed to bring in their own team from other achievement hunting websites. Making their first appearance included eventual Finnish threat TriRock, and the longest active member of GSL: Corrupt. Despite the insane competition, nobody could stop Team Commonwealth (plus BEA), who had spent the entire year pre-loading games in preperation for GSL 10. Each member of this team placed in the top 11 individual scorers, with former staff member rekikire taking MVP with 85,663 gamerscore earned. Their final team score was 213,620.

  • GSL 11: GSL 11 is another tournament that was unfortunately lost to the wind in a purge of old forums. Thanks to some extensive Wayback digging, It appears that the tournament ran for at least seven weeks, most likely September 15, 2012 to October 31, 2012. However the scores are just insane for that time period, so it may not be true. With what info I have, I can tell you that GSL 11 was extremely competitive and featured some of the craziest scores possible. Guest team Gamerscore of Thrones led by smrnov took home first place with a staggering 309,130 earned. smrnov also set the new GSL record with 121,312 earned himself, taking overall MVP. The big four guest teams all smoked the XBA regulars, as second place led by Stallion83 scored 120,303 as well, losing overall MVP by just over 1,000 points. RedmptionDenied was the third person to put up 100k in his debut, with 112,518 gamerscore. The fourth and final guest team, led by silva, took home fourth, while defending champions Team Commonwealth placed fifth. The crazy scores put up by the guest teams is more than likely due to GSL 11 running through TA's version GTASC, which normally runs during the 4th quarter of the year. All of the top four teams were TA regulars, which would explain the massive scores.

  • GSL 12: GSL 12 was a special event, as XBA ran the tournament at the same time as sister site's Trophy Hunting League. From September 29th, 2013 to December 1, 2013, all achievements would be counted up and compared to PST.org's trophy count. Drama struck early, as four days before the tournament, Microsoft issued a console and profile ban to many players who took advantage of games that were free in other regions. This caused 2 teams to shut down before the event started. Silva also lost his profile mere hours before the event, causing Stallion's Live to Win team to carry on short-handed. Even though two teams folded, GSL 12 brought in the most teams ever, with 20 whole teams competing to take down PST. The battle for first was tight for the first couple of weeks between Dance Team, newcomers Finnish Line, and The Hand of Thrawn. KillerBEA and his newly renamed team We Can Dance If We Want To desperately wanted to take home first place again in Capn Doug's final GSL, but fell short by just over 20k. Doug encountered some terrible luck during the competition, losing their J-box halfway through to RROD and then being hospitalized near the event with real life injuries. I also want to give a shout out to TriBlade, who managed to put up crazy numbers in his first and only GSL appearance despite running on a casual team. Newcomers See You at the Finnish Line, comprised of all Finnish gamers, took home first place with 188,030 gamerscore earned. RedmptionDenied single-handedly carried his team to third place, and earned himself the cross-site MVP award with 3,075 achievements earned. He really had to battle Corrupt for that one, who led the cross-site MVP race (achievement count) for the majority of the event. XBA held the cross-site race lead for six weeks but it wasn't enough to hold off the onslaught of easy PS3 games and stacks available. In the end, XBA amassed 56,677 achievements but ultimately lost out to PST's 59,993 trophies. To wrap up GSL 12, the gamerscore MVP award went to Finnish Line's TriRock, who scored 79,340 towards their win.

  • GSL 13: GSL 13 became the longest running GSL in quite some time, ranging over ten weeks from October 5, 2014 to December 14, 2014. Right out of the gate, RedmptionDenied put up a massive amount of preloads for an early lead. After just two weeks, it became clear that GSL 13 would be a two team race for first. Red's team would only hold first for three weeks though. Reigning champs See You at the Finnish Line Again overtook them and never looked back, bringing home the gold with 210,310 gamerscore earned. Redmption kept his team of lesser weights in second with a massive 101,835 gamerscore earned by himself, giving him the overall MVP. Lastly, a special shout out to GSL newcomer Dirty130 pulling his team of female gamers into third place on the awesomely named Dirty's Angels team. Dirty led with 60k, but Spiral helped kicked some ass like a real Charlie's Angel. GSL 13 was drama free for the most part. While only two teams had a chance at winning, the rest of the nine teams sat back and hoarded gamerscore casually and shared gifs and crappy game woes. A lot of users also complained about the length of the event. GSL 13 was nearly three months long, and a lot of gamers gave up long before reaching the finish line. Everyone hoped that the next GSL would be much shorter.

  • GSL 14: With the previous years' complaints in mind, Creech completely threw a wrench into the game for GSL 14. This time around, your team score would actually be equal to the lowest scoring member on the team. The time frame for GSL 14 was from November 11, 2015 to January 3, 2016 (8 weeks). Once the Finnish Line and newly formed Four Horsemen signed up, everyone figured the game would be between the two giants. However, newcomer PiixL came to play and put up big numbers early. Him and Corrupt battled for the MVP for the first week until December hit. It was the final four in GTASC, which Redmption was a part of. Redmption put up over 75k in two weeks and blasted past both of them. The underdog team Lunatic Mosquitoes held the lead for most of the competition, and looked to be winning with 48 hours to go. Not giving in so easily, the Finns blitzed them hard, temporarily taking the lead with 30 minutes remaining. Sasquach even mentioned having to simultaneously play two Xboxs at the same time in hopes of fending off the hard charging Finns. In the end, Lunatic Mosquitos re-passed The Finnish Line and won by a measly 375 gamerscore, the lowest margin of victory in GSL history. Their final score was listed as 31,745, however as a team they scored 132,558. RedmptionDenied was too busy going ham to worry about the competition though, racking in 110,045 gamerscore on route to his second consecutive overall MVP award. Under normal circumstances, this goliath team The Four Horsemen would have taken home first place with a grand total of 226,652 gamerscore earned. Red and Corrupt would have to settle with third though, per event rules of lowest scoring team member. Special shout out to Floyd's team No Chance in Hell, who officially took home last place with an official score of 0, the lowest team score in GSL history. A second shout out to Mr Chaotix, who completed Super Meat Boy during the competition, and fairly quickly too. Now that is a hard game!

  • GSL 15: After GSL 14, Creech retired from his GSL director/admin role, handing off the Gamerscore League to the Community Events Team. GSL 15 ran from December 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016. This also caused a lot of controversy, as many users were upset that the time frame ran through holidays and conflicted with another site's GTASC gamerscore earning event. Once teams were finalized, it became a two team show between former champions Almost at the Finnish Line and the hungry juggernaut team The Four Horsemen. With a new lineup of teammates, the Finns led for a few days thanks to a first day mega push from Kovy. but then Redmption put in his preloads for a massive lead the Horsemen would hold all the way until the final day. It wasn't enough though, as the Finns began completing the shortest games they held onto to take the lead with 28 hours to go. They managed to run away with it by over 20k as Almost at the Finnish Line won with 236,450 gamerscore earned. RedmptionDenied once again set history with his third consecutive overall MVP award, scoring 99,515 on route to his second place finish. Ultimately the Horsemen were upset with their fourth member, who failed to deliver on their promise to "score out of their minds." They had a lot of issues during GSL 15, but was it just excuses? The world may never know.

  • GSL 16: GSL 16 continued the tradition of running for about one month, this time from November 20, 2017 to December 19, 2017. After lurking the previous threads and seeing the past dominance of the Finns, newcomer JimbotUK signed up his team of merry misfits to give them some royal competition. And that they did: Jimmy's Merry Misfits took home the bacon and set a new GSL record at a staggering 338,882 gamerscore earned, which is the current GSL team score record as of 2020. Even though Jimbot broke the individual GSL record of 121k set by smrnov, he was overshadowed by RedmptionDenied's insane 131,700 gamerscore. Red took home his fourth straight overall MVP, a record cementing him among the greatest of all time. But despite the massive score, his colossal Four Horsemen team finished runner up once more. The Finnish Line took home third, attributing their loss mostly to focusing on GTASC the previous month as well as holiday leave. The Finnish Line also did not put in any preloads, which allowed the top 2 teams to blast them into third, their lowest placement.

  • GSL Twist (GSL 17): After multiple complaints about the GSL time frame running through both GTASC and big holidays, it was moved to the summer of 2018. This time, it ran from July 8, 2018 to July 29, 2018, the shortest GSL in history at just 21 days. The joy of a date change was short lived, as GSL Twist threw another kink in veteran GSL participants' plans. For this competition, you were only allowed to team up with one other person who had been on your GSL team previously. This broke up the juggernaut teams that had been dominating GSL year in and year out. Some players were very, very unhappy about the change and refused to participate. This led to just eight teams showing up. This twist did not deter JimbotUK, who rallied some of the top scorers from GSL 16 and took home first place with ease. Combining their previous team names into Goats 'N' Misfits, they won GSL Twist with 141,672. Thanks to an absence of Redmption and the sheer willpower to solidify his name in the history books, Jimbot nabbed the overall MVP award with a solid 61,960 earned. While there was not much challenge for first place, the Overall MVP had a great battle week in and week out between Jimbot, Dirty130, jroller1979 and Rapture639.

  • GSL 2019 (GSL 18): After much uproar about team limitations, the events team got rid of the twist rule for the newly named GSL 2019. Gamerscore League was also moved to spring, with the competition running from February 10, 2019 to March 10, 2019. Determined to be a bridesmaid no more, Corrupt teamed up with two time champ JimbotUK to form 2019's unstoppable team The Four Horsemen. They were the clear favorite going in and led for week 1. During week 2, Puppys put up over 20k gamerscore in a single day to pull team Final Boss into the lead for almost a week, even though her teammates had a combined 2k at the time. The Horsemen powered back into first and held it until the final few days, when NEOGEO king Dirty130 doubled his score to give them some heat. This pulled the Van der Lame gang awfully close to first place. Despite being the favorites, the Horsemen really had to work for the win, as Van der Lame closed to just under 8,000. In the end, The Four Horsemen held onto first with a team score of 205,965. Dirty130 put up 84,855 for the overall MVP award. Jimbot had now won three consecutive GSL competitions, a new record well worth mentioning. The exciting competition was not only for first place, but for the final podium placement as well. Sasquach11235 pulled in 70k himself, squeezing out The Golden Girls of Gaming in the final few hours of the competition for third. The was even a great battle for 5th between The Buttmunchers and the imitation Finnish Line team. GSL 2019 became the second closest margin of victory in history, with first place winning by only ~7,000 gamerscore.

  • GSL 2020 (GSL 19): GSL 2020 was announced to be a duos tournament, reducing the team size to two for the first time ever to encourage competition. Hot off being squeezed out of third the previous year, Ruffus reached out to Puppys, a potential threat throwing around ideas of going for her first GSL win. She had scored 51k in GSL 2019, including over 20k in a single day, so she was a hot prospect. Signups quickly showed that this GSL might be the most competitive event ever. Jimbot, who won the last three tournaments, signed up with previous teammate Mrtclown. A new prospect kng davd brought on multiple event winner Hoebagger. Ruffus nabbed Puppys to form a new dynamic duo. Lastly, Rapture639 brought RedmptionDenied out of retirement to form another lethal duo. There was even a 5th scary team when the remaining Horsemen Corrupt and Watty tagged in together. For most of the tournament, Pillar of Fire's kng davd and Hoebagger showed no signs of stopping, and led the first 24 days of the tournament. With enough consistency, Puppys and Ruffus kept at it and passed them, blitzing Ratalaika games left and right and never looked back. In the end, Beauty and the Beast won GSL 2020 with a total score of 219,422. To put that winning team score in perspective, it is 4th best all time despite them being a team of two rather than the usual teams of four. Puppys broke the GSL 16 individual score record set by Redmption with an even 132,000 gamerscore earned in just 29 days. Despite taking it easy for the entire tournament, Jimboto and Clownroy came charging hard in the last few hours, trying to edge out Rapture and Red for third. They managed to do it by just over 1,000 gamerscore, setting Jimbot's average GSL ranking at an maniacal 1.25 in four appearances. In the end they were battling for second, as Pillar of Fire was disqualified for breaking the public Xbox profile setting rule. With the disqualification, GSL 2020 holds the record for biggest gamerscore difference between first and second place: A gap of 136,031 gamerscore.

  • GSL '21 (GSL 20): GSL '21 saw the return of the duos format for 2021. Last year's winning team split up, with Ruffus not wanting to go through easy spam hell for two consecutive years. Puppys wanted to be competitive again to pad her gamerscore and GSL stats, if nothing else. She teamed up with a trophy hunting ringer named GwynsCandle, who had a lot of spam available on the Xbox side. GSL veterans Watty and Necrophage33 teamed up as well, looking to bring the heat. A lot of teams did not return this year, leaving us with just nine teams of two to duke it out. For just a handful hours, Puppys and her team Final Boss took an early lead. But on the morning of April 1, Who's Carrying Who? took the lead and never looked back. Within just 12 days, Necrophage33 shattered the GSL individual gamerscore record. After just 15 days they had already beaten the previous years' winning score. And lastly, just three weeks into the month-long competition, Necrophage and Watty decimated the GSL record that was set by four people back in GSL 16. Necrophage33 took home overall MVP with 216,380 of his team's 387,380 score. Both are new records that surprised most of us and left a statement on GSL history. While first and second place never changed hands the entire 30 days, The Gravy Robbers made a huge final week push to edge out the Bearded Bastards for third. The battle for fifth was tight the entire month, with Boogie Woogie taking the top 5 spot by just 36 gamerscore.

  • GSL '22 (GSL 21): With the duo format the new normal, GSL '22 hosted 16 teams of two and ran for the duration of April 2022. This time each team got to pick a dynamic duo, with awards featuring their duo of choice for a podium finish. The two giants of GSL clashed again, this time bringing a new teammate on each team. Puppys brought on first timer ImStylinOnYaBro while Necrophage33 tapped an XBA tournament legend named Hoebagger. Just like the year before, records were shattered instantly everywhere. Let's Dance began day one with ImStylinOnYaBro scoring 100k in a single day, and then Puppys followed suite in day 2 with 100k of her own. Once Puppys put up her 100k, Let's Dance took the lead on day 2 and held it for the victory. That's not to take away from the fact that it was an intense battle for 15 grueling days. The lead shrunk as low as 2,000 gamerscore on the 15th day. Unfortunately both team members got sick and could not continue putting up the numbers needed for the win. When the clock ran out, Let's Dance came out on top with 732,315. Needless to say this is over 300k more than the previous record from 2021. ImStylinOnYaBro took home overall MVP with 390,310. 2nd place went to Necrophage and Hoebagger's team And Sheperds We Shall Be. Rounding out the top 3 was Shake it Off, who pulled into third place after a relentless month from DOOKH8R and a huge end of month push from teammate Jimbot. The combined score from participants rounded out to 2.7 million, a new GSL record that even beats a 2-month long GSL.

  • GSL '23: Endgame (GSL 22): One final time. One last hurrah. With GSL becoming more about time & money than strategic planning, the event team decided to host one last sendoff in October 2023 for the Gamerscore League. GSL '23 featured duo teams with a team name themed around "end/final," and the community event for scoring 1.8 million gamerscore as a whole was smashed in just 2 short weeks. In their final appearances, #1 overall seeded Puppys tapped #2 seeded Necrophage33 to form the strongest duo of all time. Hoebagger returned with a new participant ViolatorX, while another newcomer j e f f y boasted about being able to score big. As much as we would love to see some back and forth competition, the top 3 was set from day one and never changed hands throughout the entire month. In Amber Clad came home with 1st place and a staggering one million gamerscore earned as a duo (1,003,430). Did anyone ever expect that would be possible? I'd love to ask someone like the Finns back in 2014. Team MVP went to Puppys with her 508k, but that wasn't without a tough fight. Necro managed to hold the Team MVP lead for 27 out of 31 days, so credit where it is due. Second place goes to Game Over, Man! Game Over!!! with 664,060. User j e f f y managed to score nearly 562k in his debut and secured the #1 most gamerscore earned spot. His teammate bLaKgRaVy didn't snooze, either with 102k of his own. Our bronze podium spot goes to One More for The Road with 575,030. Hoebagger put up 90% of that score, tapping in a friend and first timer ViolatorX to become the second person to podium in their debut GSL appearance. It goes without saying that as time progresses, the records continue to be shattered. New records in gamerscore earned (3,385,135), overall MVP score (561,960) and team score (1,003,430). The only record not shattered was achievements earned (35,855), but to be fair GSL 12 had 80 participants and 8 weeks to earn them versus GSL 23's 30 participants and 4 weeks. This was one for the history books.

*Jappe participated in GSL 7, but it is impossible to capture that year's score with the bye weeks. Jappe's average is divided by 7 instead of 8.

Most Achievements Earned During a Single GSL

Notes: Even though gamerscore is what ultimately counts towards winning GSL, some users may go about earning more achievements than others on their journey to greatness. XBA also had a cross-site competition in GSL 12 with sister-site PST.org, where achievement count actually mattered towards a separate goal. Because I was unable to find accurate information on older GSL events, and stats became unreliable earlier than 2013, only GSL 12 through GSL 2020 are counted here. Any user who has earned 1,000 achievements during a single event will be featured.

Individual GSL Winners Leaderboard

Notes: This leaderboard highlights every person who has made it to the Gamerscore League victory lane, and boasted the biggest bragging rights. Thanks to the distribution of forum awards, this post includes individual winners of every single GSL all the way back to Season 1! This leaderboard will also be in order of who achieved multiple wins first. For example, Jappe XBA became the first three-time winner so they are listed higher than every other three-time winner.

Individual Podium Finishes Leaderboard

Notes: Similar to the previous one, this leaderboard will highlight the users with the most top 3 finishes. Did you know despite RedmptionDenied dominating almost every leaderboard, he has never won a GSL? Tough to do when sporting over two million gamerscore I'd reckon. That's okay though, as he takes first place on this leaderboard. Impressive! This leaderboard will include all top 3 finishers from GSL 5 onwards, as well as the winners of GSL 1-4. Anyone with two podium finishes will be featured.

Format will be Username | Total Podiums | 1st place finishes | 2nd place finishes | 3rd place finishes

Individual Average Gamerscore League Finish

Notes: I am a sucker for average finishes, so this was one of my favorite stats. This is a short and sweet individual leaderboard that includes anyone with an average GSL finish of 5.00 or greater, and has participated in at least three GSL events. Once again, this does not include GSL 1 through 4 as I do not have team placements for those events. Bold denotes participation in most recent GSL event.

Format: Username | Average GSL Finish | GSLs Participated In

  1. 1. Mrtclown | 1.50 | 4

    1241690.png

  2. 2. Petturi | 1.75 | 4

  3. 3. Kovy88 | 2.00 | 6

  4. 4. smrnov | 2.33 | 3

  5. 5. tjayars | 2.33 | 3

  6. I King Pin 0 | 2.33 | 3
  7. RedmptionDenied | 2.57 | 7
  8. Capn Doug | 2.75 | 4
  9. TriRock | 3.00 | 5
  10. Lavindathar | 3.00 | 4
  11. Jimbot | 3.14 | 7
  12. DaveBodom | 3.33 | 3
  13. Necrophage33 | 3.67 | 6
  14. xRogue 5x | 3.67 | 3
  15. Puppys | 3.83 | 6
  16. Jappe XBA | 4.13 8
  17. italianstallion | 4.20 | 5
  18. Dukefan45 | 4.50 | 4
  19. Mr Chaotix | 4.60 | 5
  20. bLaKgRaVy | 5.00 | 7
  21. stophj | 5.00 | 7
  22. Krazie | 5.00 | 3

Honorable Mention: Wreckon Dracgon has placed 1st in four out of five of his events. I confirmed through extensive forum searching that he did indeed participate in GSL 1, but unfortunately do not have his placement. He would most definitely have a 2.00 or higher average finish through five events. Very impressive! Speaking of which, I wanted to know what some average finishes looked like if you were to remove a participant's worst finish. Here's some cool finishing positions!

  1. Wreckon Dracgon | 1.00 | 4 -> Removing whatever GSL 1 placement Wreckon obtained, he has an average finish of 1st. Yep, four for four.
  2. JimbotUK | 1.25 | 4 -> Jimbot took home a 1.25 average finish in the four GSLs he participated heavily in. That will always be impressive!
  3. Puppys | 1.25 | 4 -> If you remove the two casual years Puppys participated in GSL, she has an average finish of 1.25 from GSL '20-23. Nice!
  4. Necrophage | 1.80 | 5 -> Even more impressive is Necrophage being 5 for 5 on podiums if you remove his one year of casual play!
  5. Hoebagger | 3.80 | 5 -> If you remove the one disqualification not of his doing, Hoebagger would be up there with a respectable 3.80!
  6. DOOKH8R | 5.20 | 5 -> Grouping together Dook's five best finishes almost nets him a top 5 average finish! But, grouping together his worst five finishes and you have a 15.60. Quite possibly the most interesting person across all GSLs.

I think its fair to mention three participants Who've been in 10+ GSL events and still bring home a very fine average finish. Remember, back in the day there were up to 20 teams and 80 participants, it wasn't easy carrying that average finish.

  1. Sasquach11235 | 5.36 | 11
  2. Corrupt | 5.58 | 12 (tied for most GSL participations)
  3. Rapture639 | 6.50 | 10

Gamerscore League Team Feature

In this section, I would like to recognize some of the greatest teams of all time, as well as some honorable mentions for other teams. Some teams are certainly worthy of more backstory, so I did my best to capture some of that energy from a time long past.

Knights of the Old Republic

8QWYgyd.jpg

Its hard to argue against featuring the only four time champions of the Gamerscore League. Knights of the Old Republic was formed by KOTOR Emporer Wreckon Dracgon in 2007 to take on GSL 2. And that they did, on route to a back to back title in GSL 2 and 3. The Knights cunningly sat out GSL 4, no doubt to rack up quick and easy games for an entire year to let others battle it out. Upon returning, KOTOR dominated GSL 5 and ran away with their third title. With their tactic working, team KOTOR sat out GSL 6 and returned in GSL 7 to take home a mind-blowing fourth GSL win. This leaves the team completely undefeated across four GSLs, a record future teams could only hope to beat. Their scores were insane for a time when Ratalaika and NEOGEO didn't exist, making their reign even more impressive. After reading as much as I could on archived forums and the Wayback machine, it was evident that they were the one of the most feared team of all time. Whether it was jealousy, envy, or hate, everyone was talking about them. After a very large amount of drama in GSL 7, Wreckon decided to retire from both his role as GSL director and team leader of the mighty Knights. With a team win rate of 100%, a retirement was well deserved for the early GSL dominators.

The Finnish Line

OEK8r9C.png

What could possibly be better than four GSL wins? How about five for five on podium finishes by The Finnish Line? This team, all four hailing from Finland, was formed during the summer of 2013 for GSL 12 by TriRock. He tapped fellow Finns Jappe XBA, Kovy88, and Petturi to give XBA a run for their money in the Gamerscore League. While KOTOR ran away with the victory each year, The Finnish Line had to work a lot harder for their podium spots. They had to compete against the likes of the great RedmptionDenied and the then-dominate Team Commonwealth. Despite this, Finnish Line took home the GSL 12 victory by defeating the relentless Commonwealth (Dance) team in Capn Doug's last GSL. Despite not knowing each other in real life, a big contributing factor was Jappe and his "Jappe-box" plus massive collection of Japanese titles. Back then, you needed a Japanese console if you wanted to be competitive thanks to easy visual novels. Jappe paid crazy amounts of postage to ship around the Jappe-box, resulting in each Finn racking up an average of 47,000 gamerscore. TriRock secured overall MVP that year, becoming the second of only three people to snatch that coveted award away from RedmptionDenied. The third person to do it? You're reading her stories right now.

The same team lineup returned for GSL 13, renaming their team See You at the Finnish Line Again. With Dance Team out, the Finns now had to deal with just Redmption and has massive gamerscore earning skills. Even though Red put up over 100k, The Finnish Line showed it takes a team effort to win, beating his team by about 11,500 gamerscore. This made Finnish Line the second two-time champion team of the Gamerscore League. Despite part of the team not wanting to participate a third time, Jappe rallied everyone to return for a third straight year in GSL 14. Unfortunately for them, GSL 14 forced a rule where your team score equaled your lowest member's score. A brand new team forced an upset on the Finnish Line, and they lost by a nose hair. Losing by just 375 points and missing out on their third straight win was a heartbreaker for sure.

The next year, TriRock and Petturi decided to sit out because of school and work. Kovy and Jappe decided to enter anyway, picking up a third Finn named LightHordy. They couldn't find a fourth competitive member from their country, so they tapped a scoring juggernaut named DwnTheRbbtHole and signed up for GSL 15. Because the team was short a Finn, they aptly named their team "Almost at the Finnish Line." They really had some work ahead, as Redmption teamed up with regular podium finishes Corrupt and Lavindathar, as well as GSL 14 winner PiixL to form an even stronger Four Horsemen team. Expectations for winning were not very high, until LightHordy knocked it out of the park with over 75,000 gamerscore earned in just one month. Kovy and Jappe also put up over 50k, which was enough to secure their third win over Redmption and Corrupt's massive scoring efforts.

For the second straight year, it was unclear if The Finnish Line would return for GSL 16. However this time around, Petturi and TriRock were up for another round so the original team got back together for a reunion ass whooping. Unfortunately for them, this tournament ran right through TA's GTASC semi-finals, which two GSL teams were also taking part of. This caused both Jimbot's Merry Misfits and Redmption's Four Horsmen to blast well beyond the Finn's scoring capabilities. This was mostly due to pre-loading, a tedious tactic used by hardcore gamerscore earners to prep a ton of games to the point of just loading them up and finishing them off quickly. With zero pre-loading, there was no way the Finns could keep up and they voiced displeasure at the legal but shady tactic. Despite all this, The Finnish Line held off the hard charging fourth place team Goat to place in their fifth straight podium finish.

The introduction of GSL 17's Twist rule completely ruined the chance of the original Finnish Line being able to compete. If they wanted to do so, they would have to split up the team because only two members were allowed to be on a new team if they competed previously. Kovy decided to give it a go for fun on a different team, but this was the nail in the coffin for Finnish Line and they did not return. A year later, a group decided to impose the team name, which is either the greatest compliment or insult a team could ever receive. The Finnish Line has not competed since GSL 2016 three years ago. However if they ever made a comeback, Gamerscore League veterans and newbies alike are in for a really tough time as they will most definitely be a very scary threat.

The Four Horsemen

jMiMWvR.jpg

The Four Horsemen is quite possibly the most intimidating team of all time. Team leader Corrupt approached the highest scorers in the world, including Stallion83 and smrnov. But it was RedmptionDenied who jumped at the idea, trying to secure his first GSL win. They picked up two strong scorers, Skorpion XBA and Lavindathar, in an effort to stop The Finnish Line from rolling away with a third straight win. Sadly they joined at a tough time, as Creech announced the rule that your score equaled to your lowest scoring member. That didn't stop Corrupt from scoring as much as possible thanks to his new J-box, and we all know by now that Redmption is on another level. Despite having two other strong scorers, Four Horsemen took home third place. Their downfall was Lav and Skorpion, who were not able to put up high scores due to completionist natures and real life work loads. Without the twist rule, they would have easily taken home first place. In GSL 15 the Horsemen returned, this time replacing a retired Skorpion with the highest scorer on the GSL 14 winning team: PiixL. This new horseman boasted that he planned on throwing up a massive amount of score, so it was a no-brainer pick. Lavindathar picked up the pace due to good timing on his work schedule, but PiixL fell really short. There were a lot of excuses going around for his poor performance, and nobody knows if they were legit excuses or not. Redmption and Corrupt carried the team to a second place finish this time, handing the win to The Finnish Line.

At this point they were just waiting for the dominate Finnish Line to have a bad year, and GSL 16 was their first chance. PiixL was replaced with another massive scorer: Mrtclown. However this time around, a new team joined with four brand new members of GSL. This team was slated in the semi-finals for GTASC, which caused them to bring the heat something fierce. Jimbot's new team put up multiple months worth of preloads and blew by both the Horsemen and Finnish Line, setting the GSL team score record in the process. Corrupt and Redmption would have to settle for runner up a second time. Since GSL Twist split up the teams, The Four Horseman did not participate that year. The only one who did was Corrupt, who actually formed a truce with Finnish Line's Kovy88 under a different team name that year.

After winning two consecutive GSLs, Jimbot reached out to Corrupt in hopes of forming another dominate team for GSL 2019. They gathered Mrtclown once more, as well as Watty8883 and reformed The Four Horsemen for another ride. With the Finns out, it was clear that this team was the favorite to win. It didn't end up being a runaway victory though, with Dirty130 and Scotty challenging their victory in the final week. They managed to hold off for the win, as Corrupt's team became a bridesmaid no more. If you remove GSL 14, this victory was the lowest margin in history for a normal GSL tournament. Since the team size was reduced to just two for 2020, the Horsemen could not all rally together. They did, however, split into two teams. Corrupt took Watty for a more casual approach, while Jimbot and Mrtclown competed for a podium spot. Whether they return in the future is still up in the air, but one win and four total podium spots is a great accomplishment.

Jimbot's Misfits

snziCFp.jpg

While the Finns commanded the GSL playing field, a certain evil was lurking in the shadows. Kovy88, confident his team was the greatest ever, made the mistake of posting on TA asking for anyone who could challenge their XBA GSL team. Pushed on by this challenge, Jimbot and his friend domdude7 began putting together a team to take them down. He recruited some of the best TA scorers and signed them all up for GSL 16 as Jimmy's Merry Misfits. The first two weeks were calm, with each member scoring decently here and there. When the GTASC semi-finals began on TA, the Misfits kicked it into a gear that had never been seen before on XBA. Casual participants and fellow competitors looked on in awe as they rocketed into first, and by over 100k points. Jimbot's team went on to win both GSL and GTASC, single-handedly forcing a GSL date change so it didn't run at the same time as the other site's finals. It also sparked a major discussion on how to ban pre-loading from GSL, a conclusion that was never met. Jimbot quoted that it was some of the most fun he had ever had, not only beating the trash talking Finns but also setting the new team score GSL record.

Jimbot and domdude7 returned for GSL Twist, while his two TA teammates returned to focusing on GTASC. After messaging multiple people for a competitive team, They recruited the two top scorers from GSL 16's Goat team, forming Goats 'N' Misfits. The rule splitting up the teams that year did not deter Jimbot from being a scoring machine, taking home overall MVP and a second straight victory in this short GSL during summer 2018. When GSL 2019 rolled around, Jimbot once against sought out every competitive user for a winning team. He even tried to drag Redmption out of GSL retirement, but Red did not express interest. With former teammates all taking a break from GSL competitively, Jimbot grabbed Corrupt, Mrtclown, and Watty8883 for a return of The Four Horsemen. In dominating fashion, both Jimbot and Clown put up really high numbers, while Corrupt scored very impressively for already having over a million gamerscore. Watty held their end of the bargain too, allowing Jimbot to secure a third consecutive GSL win.

Because of the team size change, Jimbot's newest team of competitive GSL participants had to split into two groups. Due to the timing of GSL 2020, Jimbot and Clown knew they weren't going to be able to compete for a win. Clown had missed an entire week due to vacation, and Jimbot wanted to tone it down a bit. Even with the more casual approach, this duo turned it up near the end of the competition to try and secure a podium spot. They edged out Redmption and Rapture for third, which turned out to be a fight for second due to a disqualification. Now with three first places and a runner up under his belt, Jimbot holds the current average finish record with a staggering 1.25. If he ever returns for the next installment, he will be a clear competitor that any team would jump at the chance to scoop up.

Beauty and the Beast

tXrxirG.png

The most recent winner of the Gamerscore League is Beauty and the Beast, a duo of the current community events team: Puppys and oORuffusOo. Puppys is mostly a PS4 gamer, so just about every single easy game was available to her. Ruffus was also hot off being edged out of a podium finish the previous year, and wanted vengeance. A lot of user approached Puppys to team up for this event because of her previous performance, but she decided it was only fair to team up with the first person who asked to avoid favoritism. The team name was a toss up between "Beauty and the Beast" and "No One Score Whores Like Gaston," both able to play off the GSL signature template Puppys had chosen from her meme folder. The goal was to podium, but if winning was a possibility they were going to go for it.

As for the event itself, their team spent the first 24 out of 29 days playing catch up. The Pillar of Fire duo had formed a tough alliance between two very good gamerscore earners, and they had a ton of options and free time to score. With that in mind, Puppys and Ruffus still put up a very fine team average of 43,000 per week until the final week. Both of them had saved a variety of very easy games for the last week just in case first place was still in sight. Unfortunately for Pillar of Fire, one member ghosted the other and put his profile on private. This would cause a disqualification at the end of the event if he did not fix the issue. Beauty and the Beast was determined to at least take first legitimately, which they did on March 24th. After a celebratory synced The Office hi-five gif share, the team continued to finish up all of the games they bought. Even though third place was very distant and had no chance of catching up, Puppys decided to beat two records in the final week. She was able to beat her record of 20,060 gamerscore in one day with nearly 30k this time. And, on the final day, Puppys was able to surpass Redmption's insane record of 131,700 gamerscore during one GSL with 132,000 gs. This ludicrous amount of score landed her in a Kotaku article and at the top of r/xbox on Reddit.

Team Sexy

l3J8lXP.jpg

Team Sexy may not have ever been a competitive team, but they were always a favorite in our hearts. BiggD and Barad first teamed up in GSL 13 under Kung Fu Lazer Force, but decided to make their own team the next year. They picked up DEG23 and Jack Frost to form The Wild Hunt for Sexies. Barad was the only one who would put up big numbers on their team. Meanwhile, Bigg only focused on earning score from MCC or triple AAA titles, DEG was too busy growing his Taylor Swift gif collection, and Jack Frost was annoyed with constantly having to change his gamertag. They placed 8th in their debut, and brought the team on once more in GSL 15. This time they were named Sexies on the Prowl Again. The team remained intact and Barad pulled the team of sexies to another 8th place finish with an even 40,000 gamerscore earned. In GSL 16, the same exact team returned, with quite possibly the best GSL team name to date: You Either Die Sexy, Or Live Long Enough to Become Barad. Despite winning in both the best name and sexiness department, their team brought home 9th. Only The Finnish Line has had the same exact team lineup for more GSL tournaments than Team Sexy, so I'd say that is an accomplishment on its own.

But yet again the GSL Twist ended up pulling apart Team Sexy, as all four could not be on the same team together. BiggD and Barad joined up with Dirty and Bear on the XBA Super Troopers, while DEG stuck around on Team Wiener. The Barad/Bigg duo had now been together for five straight years, which ties Kovy and Jappe for longest running pair of teammates. After graduating university, Barad had begun decreasing his site activity and did not plan on teaming up for GSL 2019. He was only tapped because of a very last minute team, formed by Puppys so she could participate for personal goals. Team Sexy still continued on as 2019: A Sexy Odyssey. BiggD and DEG teamed up once more, this time with Edword and FoRty9, bringing it home in 9th. With two 8th place finishes as well as two 9ths, Team Sexy was consistent if nothing else. 2020 dropped the team size down to two, and thus Team Sexy disbanded. The likeliness of a return is minimal, but we would gladly welcome them back with open arms.

Trying is the First Step Towards Failure

u94NQtz.jpg

The final team I wanted to feature is Trying is the First Step Towards Failure. While others were spending out of their minds and suffering through Disney games and ID@Xbox games, DOOKH8R preferred to take it as casually as possible. The team's first showing was in GSL 10, where DOOK teamed up with Burning Karma, Scrubs, and BlueSpade. They took home dead last in 19th, with the lowest team score in GSL history: 4,095. This score was only beaten because of the GSL 14 rule, but nobody has ever scored lower than a collective 5,000 since then. Dook's team returned in GSL 11, taking 14th place this time out of 17 teams. Re-upping for a third time, Dook tagged Bear, LucentBeam, and tkhbecker for the GSL 12 cross-site competition. Unfortunately his casual nature was not as welcome as before, because the low scores meant PST had an easier time running away with the overall achievement versus trophy count. Dook still put up 335 achievements himself, but the rest of his team only pulled in about a collective 200. They finished dead last once more in the largest team showing in history; 20th place. After a two year hiatus, Dook actually teamed up with Dirty and Bear on Reservoir Dogs, leading to his best finish and first podium with third place in GSL 15. Dook and Bear stuck together, but decided to bring back the First Step Towards Failure team in GSL 16, once again taking dead last (15th). This was the final showing of the Trying team name, but Dook returned for two more years under different team names. And, you guessed it, Dook proudly took home dead last in both events, even managing to score 0 in GSL 2019. It is worth mentioning that Dook and Burning Karma are the third most consistent pair of teammates, having teamed up for four GSL events. In the end, Trying is the First Step Towards Failure and Dook's team of extreme casuals have an average team finish of 14.33, a record that simply cannot be broken any time soon by teams with that many finishes.

Placements were pulled from the GSL director's Photobucket album from 2008, using timestamps to verify when each team was eliminated and placed accordingly. One thread mentioned the 2nd place team was DQ'd due to cheating, but was placed third instead of second because they made it out of the playoffs before the cheating occurred. Individual scores were also scarce, but will show up next to the individual if available. Without further ado:

GSL 8 Final Scores

Ever since GSL 7, we have used a single tracker link, which is why stats are not viewable anywhere. The tracker gets reset every tournament, completely erasing all stats from previous GSLs. Using Wayback Machine, I triangulated the final scores to a point right after the tournament ended, thus giving me every individual and teams' final scores. The same method was used to pull the scores for GSL 10.

1. All Your Achievements Are Belong To Us - 105,141

  • Filter | 29,575
  • Gackt | 28,280
  • Jester Stephan | 24,055
  • Steve50013 | 23,231

2. AWO (Achievement World Order) - 96,185

  • stophj | 31,425
  • CovertDog | 25,400

  • patches4711 | 20,340
  • ThrawnOmega | 14,790

8. Amphibious Bear-Tiger Calvary - 20,245

  • J. Waddo | 10,150
  • Keano | 4,265
  • Purge | 2,950
  • Simzo | 2,880

Total Participants: 32

Total Gamerscore Earned: 443,710

*Vendetta was disqualified due to having game saves on his profile from before the tournament. Team Montana was allowed to continue on, and there was no drama produced at all from the incident.

GSL 11 Final Scores

This GSL is completely lost to time, so I do not even know the start and end dates. I did find a post that mentioned that GSL 11 "should run the same time frame next year" in a GSL 10 post, so I have to assume it ran for 7 weeks as well. I reached out to smrnov and he pointed out that his scores were findable on Wayback Machine, so I triangulated them until they stopped increasing, signalling the potential end of the event. This gap is months apart though, so it could very well be inaccurate; apologies for that. Anyways, here are the team and individual scores I was able to pull for GSL 11:

GSL 12 Final Scores

For GSL 12 through 2019, I was able to recreate scores by manually counting all achievements and gamerscore earned on a user's profile for the GSL time frame. Some users provided extreme difficulty tracking down because of gamertag changes. In the case of only finding three out of four users on a team, I gave the fourth user the missing score to add up to their team total, which was available in either post-GSL discussion threads or Wayback searching of the GSL tracker link. From here on out, the format will be Username | Achievement Count | Gamerscore Earned.

1. See You at the Finnish Line - 188,030

  • TriRock | 2,864 | 79,340
  • Kovy88 | 1,575 | 45,025

**silva's account was banned days before the event due to taking advantage of multiple region deals. His team was allowed to continue one man down.

GSL 13 Final Scores

spacer.png

For GSL 12 through 2019, I was able to recreate scores by manually counting all achievements and gamerscore earned on a user's profile for the GSL time frame. Some users provided extreme difficulty tracking down because of gamertag changes. Much to my surprise, everyone was locatable in GSL 13 so numbers should be accurate. The format will be Username | Achievement Count | Gamerscore Earned.

1. See You at the Finnish Line Again - 210,310

  • Petturi | 1,816 | 63,170
  • TriRock | 2,085 | 60,380
