Combo List and Fighting Guide

Recommended Posts

There are only 4 different combos in Invincible Tiger, but learning how to use them effectively can be difficult. This guide is here to give you tips and advice on how to master these controls.

By looking in the Book of Knowledge you will be able to see that the four combos are:

:xbut::xbut::ybut:, :xbut::ybut::ybut:, :ybut::xbut::xbut:, :ybut::ybut::xbut:.

You can either carry out these combos standing or crouching. Whilst there is not a great deal of difference in how much damage each one does, varying the combos and switching between standing and crouching attacks will increase your ‘Animal Meter’, which in turn raises the strength of your attacks. When enemies are blocking your attacks it is often good to try a different combo too as there’s more chance you’ll hit them. Also, if you only hit an enemy with one of the 3 attacks you will still do some damage (although not much).

Remember to always try and dodge enemy attacks by pushing up or down on the :rs:. When an enemy is about to attack, they will either glow a yellow or blue colour. Yellow means that they are carrying out a standing attack and so you should dodge by pulling down; blue is a crouching attack and holding up will dodge that attack. Just pushing the :rs: in the correct direction may not be enough. By holding it your dodge will last longer and you will most likely avoid the incoming attack. Note that certain enemies will glow red, which means that you cannot dodge their attack this way. By pushing the :rs: to the left or right Han will roll away from (or past) the enemy which is a very good technique for avoiding some more powerful enemies.

Enemies and their weaknesses:

Thug (1): Any combo works effectively against thugs.

Fallen Monk (1): Again, any combo works effectively.

Mercenary/Mercenary Chief (1/3): :ybut::xbut::xbut: is the best combo against these large enemies, although they can often attack you whilst you are attack them, so it is best to dodge an attack first and then try a combo. The easiest way to defeat a mercenary chief is to roll past, use this combo on their back and then repeat until they are defeated.

Thief (2): All combos damage the same amount, but the thief blocks your attacks. A good method is to charge your Yin up (white) by attacking other enemies with combos, then dodge one of the thief’s attacks using an up or down dodge and quickly activate Zen with the :rbbut: which will allow you to defeat a thief even if he’s blocking.

Night Ninja (1): Although the Book of Knowledge doesn’t give any tips, I found that an :xbut::xbut::ybut: combo tends to kill a night ninja in one blow (provided each attack hits).

Blood Ninja (2): :xbut::ybut::ybut: is recommended against a blood ninja. Something to note about these enemies is that if you knock them down but don't kill them they'll jump back up straight into a standing attack that has quite good range (they sort of flip towards you) so either move out of the way or prepare to dodge.

Water Ninja (3): Use :ybut::ybut::xbut:, although water ninjas block a lot so use the same method as given for defeating a thief. Water ninjas also drop their sticks, so be sure to pick these up with :bbut: to do a lot of damage.

Lightning Ninja (3): Holding down on the :ls: (crouching) and using :xbut::xbut::ybut: is most effective against lightning ninjas.

Heavenly Ninja (4): Using reversals (explained below) are apparently the best technique against heavenly ninjas, although I found that either using Zen as in the thief method or rolling past and attacking from behind was more effective.

Stone Warriors (5): You won’t encounter these until the end, and they are relatively easy to destroy with any combo having the same effect, although their souls will just generate another stone warrior.

Using the correct combo, while dodging effectively and using your Zen at the correct moments will ensure you easily defeat any enemies that spawn. Remember to keep on the move, as fighting 1/2/3 enemies at once is much easier than fighting 4/5/6 or more.

If you check the Book of Knowledge you will see certain requirements that must be met to unlock new moves. These moves include reversals/counter attacks and finishing moves. The finishing moves aren’t too useful as the enemy will die regardless of whether or not you use one. However, counter attacks are very difficult to pull off, as they require precise timing. It is useful to unlock these moves so that they are available in case you accidentally pull one off, but your time would be put to much better use remembering which combos to use and when. A very basic guideline of how to use these moves however is to strike an enemy with an attack at the exact moment that they strike you.

Tips for bosses:

- In general the bosses will try to attack you and by dodging their attack they will become stuck or vulnerable. This is the best opportunity to activate some Zen and get in a few combos.

- The Old House: Three bosses to beat with a few enemies in between. The first boss only uses standing attacks, so always dodge with a crouch; the second boss uses only crouching attacks so do the opposite. The third boss uses both so be aware and if you use the correct dodge, it should only take 4/5 combos with Zen activated to defeat him.

- The Outpost: You must fight a huge guy with two swords, just anticipate his attacks if possible and dodge as necessary. Sometime he will use a combo of a crouching then a standing attack, or vice versa, so you must dodge both ways to be successful. Every so often he jumps away and lets you fight some ninjas, so you must ensure you only attack him when you have a very good balance of Yin Yang and so that you can do lots of damage. Be careful towards the end of the battle too as he sometimes unleashes a fury of attacks where he will use both standing and crouching attacks, so your best bet is to just roll past him to avoid it. It is very possible to dodge both however.

- The Harbor: Pretty easy boss fight, you must press :bbut: when the bells light up to make him vulnerable. They light up from top left to top right to bottom right and repeat. Try not to kill the ninjas that run about and while you wait for a new bell to light up just dodge their attacks until you have a 5x (or even 10x) Zen multiplier. This way you'll do much more damage to him much more quickly once you ring a bell.

- The Waterfall: This can be quite tricky in single player as they can teleport and allow one to heal whilst you fight the other. Just persevere in dodging their attacks, and as soon as you strike a combo use your Zen so you can do as much damage as possible.

- The Emperor’s Tomb: Again, not too difficult, just learn to dodge his attacks correctly and you shouldn’t encounter too many problems. Refer to the achievement guide if you’re going for the “No Warriors Hurt During Filming” achievement. If not, feel free to destroy as many Stone Warriors as you feel necessary.

Remember that if you're low on health to run away, find a good spot and use some of your Yin Yang meter to replenish your health by holding down the :lbbut:.

Evil Souls:

The best thing to do when you collect evil souls is to save 3 until 1 or 2 more appear on the screen and then unleash a Smart Bomb. Or, if you’re overwhelmed by enemies, that’s always a good time.

The Old House - I counted a total of 10 in the first level.

The Outpost - There are 9 in total, 3 in the first section and 6 after. I found that at the beginning of the second section if I waited a moment two would appear at once which makes it a good time to use a Smart Bomb and gain two more souls.

The Harbor – 8 evil souls to be collected in this level.

The Waterfall – I found 7 one time and 8 another, so something around those numbers.

The Emperor’s Tomb – Only 5 for this last level.

Here is some extra help for the time trials too:

- I did all of the time trials in co-op so my times coincide with these. You have a minute less in co-op mode, but I found it much easier than in single player.

- The Old House: Start with 10:30 in single player, 9:30 in co-op. Try to have over 5:00 when you get to the bosses and you should be fine.

- The Outpost: Start with 13:00 in sp, 12:00 in co-op. Aim for at least 5:45 when you reach the boss.

- The Harbor: Start with 14.30 in sp, 13:30 in co-op. Aim for 5:30 for the boss.

- The Waterfall: Start with 13:30 in sp, 12:30 in co-op. Aim for 5:30 on the boss again.

- The Emperor’s Tomb: 15.00 in sp, 14:00 in co-op. Aim for at least 8:00 left for your fight with the Emperor
