Nothing but the Formas stand between life and extinction.” Welcome to Forma.8, a metroidvania adventure game where you play a Forma, a small robot probe made to explore and survey new planets beyond the stars. After your landing goes awry, you’ll have to navigate a dangerous world to survive, and in the process uncover ancient secrets. Although slow at the start, forma.8 is a unique game with a lovely visual style. You’ll feel miniscule in comparison to the things you encounter, and the history to be discovered will give you a deeper understanding of the world around you. With 30 achievements, most of which you’ll unlock by the games end, the game isn’t all too challenging, so you can enjoy the story/art style. Abbreviated Walkthrough: In true Metroidvania style you will be placed in the starting area and given the freedom to explore the world. Areas blocked off from you are accessed by powers obtained in other areas. 14 achievements you will unlock by the end of the story mode, while the other 16 revolve around easter eggs, collectibles, and unlocking the ‘good’ ending for the game. You’ll want to start by completing the story campaign up to unlocking the achievement “One too many dimensions”, at which point you should have all movement abilities unlocked and the map to explore. After this you’ll want to find all collectibles/easter eggs, then go on to finish the game. “You’re not alone” is unlocked by finding an easter egg in the Lost Temple. This must be done BEFORE going to the end game by going through the portal in the dystopian forest. Once you unlock “One too many dimensions”, head back and make sure you’ve unlocked this achievement. A guide for the bosses can be found here: [ame= ] [/ame] Mop-Up: Once you complete the end game you’ll be given free roam of the map to finish up collectibles/easter eggs. By collecting the ‘secret objects’ you can find a compass which will show which parts of the map still have collectibles in. These areas will have a blue outline on the map, and collectibles can be easily found by checking for hidden passages/using movement abilities. Conclusion: Forma.8 is a gem amongst indie games, with a true Metroidvania style and plenty of lore to uncover/enjoy. This is paired with simple gameplay which should give you no trouble, ending in an easy 1000:1gs:, and an enjoyed experience. Good luck, and have fun exploring!
