Are you unfamiliar with the Games with Gold program and want to know more? Curious as to which games will be free next or what the current free game is? You have come to the right place! What is Games with Gold? Games with Gold is a program that started in June 2013 that lets people who have a gold account on Xbox Live get free games! Originally giving out two free games, it has since increased to 4 games! Two games are from the 360 era, and two more games are from the current Xbox One era. In order to get the free game, you must download it during the time period where it is the free game; it is not possible to obtain past games for free if you have not previously downloaded them. All Original Xbox (OX) and Xbox 360 era games will be 'backward compatible' going forward, meaning that they can be played on the Xbox One. Some games are not available in certain countries due to regional restrictions. They will be replaced with different games only available in those regions. On Xbox 360, you own these games forever. If you decide to no longer have a gold account, you can still play the game. On Xbox One, you will only be able to play the games offered as long as you have a gold account. If you decide to no longer have a gold account, you will either have to purchase the game or renew your gold membership in order to play the games offered. There are often deals of the week (DotW) that take place along with the free game such as DLC or related games being discounted. As of December 2020, all new games listed can also be played on the Xbox Series X|S due to the console's ability to play all previously-classified backward compatible games.
