Naval Academy Graduation – 40 GS

Complete all Naval Academy missions.

[single Player] Go through the training (2nd option under single player). It will take about 20 minutes or so, but since it teaches you the various commands, it is a good idea anyway.

Veteran of Midway – 100 GS

Complete all Single Player missions.

[single Player] Beat the US Campaign. See the mission walkthrough under Hardened Veteran of Midway. However, while these are cascading achievements (you will get Veteran of Midway if you beat them for the first time on Veteran) it is much easier to beat each mission on Rookie or Regular and then repeat it on the harder difficulty. This lets you get an idea for the layout of the map, where enemy forces spawn, how they react, etc.

Hardened Veteran of Midway – 150 GS

Complete all Single Player missions on Veteran difficulty level.

[single Player] Beat the US Campaign on Veteran. See the mission walkthrough below.

Mission 1 – Stationed at Pearl:

See the Distinguished Flying Cross achievement for a walkthrough of Mission 1.

Mission 2 – Defense of the Philippines:

In the harbor, shoot planes until you have power, then get out of the harbor at full speed. At that point, your job is to prevent landing craft from entering the harbor. If five get in, you lose. They are small and slow, so this alone isn’t a huge issue. The problem lies in that you can’t repair your vessel, so you have to minimize your damage taken to win, especially on Veteran. First priority, down any planes you see. Second, stay away from the destroyer. Take the out first wave of landing craft (white triangles on your map) and then put two torpedoes in the AK (large grey boat) on the far right, spin to the left and take out the second one. Kennedy will likely take out the one on the left before you reload, but if he doesn’t, do it yourself. Focus on taking down planes first, and then sinking the little boats. Once all three AKs are down, sink the two smaller transports and you are good. There is no need to attack the DD at all, so stay away from him.

Mission 3 – Running the Palawan Passage:

There are two ways to do this mission. The first is to kill everything methodically and hope you don’t get picked to pieces. This approach works fine on Rookie and is possible on Regular. On Veteran, however, go to full power immediately and set your damage control to weapons. Let the AI handle guns and you concentrate on dodging torpedoes. As you take damage, throw all three damage control parties on the necessary areas and then put them back on weapons when you are done. Head through the passage directly in front of you and stay at full power until you get to the Japanese DD. Don’t stop for anything! If you get hit with a torpedo, you are likely better off restarting. When you reach the spot where the DD spawns, you should have 25%-50% of your health. Fire four torpedoes to your front, generally more to the right than the left, with the idea of getting the DD to dodge toward the shore. Then set your orders to everything on, make sure the DD is set as your target, and take control of the artillery. If the DD dodged toward the shore, you should be able to target his nose and hit him square amidships and sink him quickly. The total mission time shouldn’t be more than seven minutes with this approach.

Mission 4 – Vengeance at Luzon:

The first four victory conditions you can meet purely from the tactical screen, directing your planes to the various points. When you are placed in charge of the flight deck, launch 3 fighters and 3 sets of 3 torpedo bombers. Send the 3 fighters to dogfight the CAP over the battleship, then split the bombers to the left and right. Manually fly them in let the torpedoes go at 0.2 range square in the middle of the battleship, aimed slightly forward. You can crash your planes afterward as this is much quicker than landing and reloading and you have plenty to spare. It only takes 6 or so torpedoes to sink the BB.

Mission 5 – Raid on Balikpapan:

The key to this is speed as it is very difficult to defeat the CL and third DD that show up if you take too long. Set damage crews and disband the formation. The John D Ford needs to go due east at top speed and get in range of the eastern most target ship (AK). The torpedoes are effective about 1.5 miles out, so hit it with four and then turn north to shake any pursuit. When your torpedoes have reloaded, come back south and hit the northeastern most AK. In the meantime, spend most of your time with the Parrot, full speed, set the first DD as the target, hit the AK that is outside the barrier islands with four torpedoes immediately (you should be in range as soon as the mission starts) and head for the southwestern ship. Manually target the DD with your artillery when you can as you have better aim and longer range than the AI gunner, but don’t let killing him slow you down. Dodge any incoming torpedoes but try to not kill the PT boat (if you do three more spawn almost immediately, which is a pain). Take the Parrot at about half speed northeast between the barrier islands and the main island, trashing all the AKs with artillery and torpedoes. The way to do this is to fire torpedoes at the targets furthest away while using the artillery to hammer the ones near you. Assuming you don’t take engine damage, this mission on Veteran should take about 6 minutes.

Mission 6 – Holding the Lombok Strait:

This is one of the easiest Veteran missions and can be played entirely from the tactical map except when launching planes (or crashing them). Defend your air base by throwing all your fighters to the southwest where the enemy planes enter the map. Move the John D. Ford to the western side of the bay to assist with AA fire (on automatic, you don’t have to worry about shooting it yourself) and launch the two Catalina flying boats out to the southeast and due east to serve as early strike vehicles for when the fleet shows up. As soon as you see the incoming flight with 5 dive bombers and 5 Zeros, that is the last set of planes. You want to concentrate on killing the dive bombers first, then launch your two level bombers and all the dive bombers you can sending them east while you shoot down the Zeros. Any fighters you have left up once the ships show up, crash so that you can launch dive bombers. When the ships show up, ignore the DD and CL, zoom your tactical map in and target the AKs and LSTs with your planes. Order dive bombers to crash rather than land (or suicide them into the AKs if you wish) but you will want the level bombers to land and re-arm. Once the transports all sink, you win.

Mission 7 – Rendezvous in the Java Sea:

The first phase is incoming air strikes, both dive bombers and torpedo bombers. Send the cruiser at top speed to the east and use the destroyers as a screen to the north. Actively switch between ships to ensure provide target selection. Aim for incoming planes only as once they have dropped their ordnance they are no longer a threat. If a flight of torpedo bombers gets through, manually steer the Houston to avoid the torpedoes. Ideally, you want them dropping torpedoes behind you and it is pretty easy to avoid them.

The second phase is a submarine hunting down the Houston. Send your destroyers at the sub on full auto as soon as it is detected. However, if both of your destroyers are destroyed by the planes, you have to go rendezvous with the British and you will be unable to harm the sub. The way to do this is to steer from the tactical map with the zoom all the way in (right trigger). This lets you see torpedoes in the water so you can avoid them. The reload for torpedoes is very slow, so you should only have to dodge one wave of them and then go straight for the rendezvous point.

The third phase is a cruiser and three DD’s, which are pretty straight forward to destroy. Target your DD’s on the enemy DD’s with full auto, send the Houston to the edge of the map so she doesn’t take any damage, and manually run the Exeter. Make sure you turn torpedoes to auto fire on all DD’s and the Exeter.

Once those ships are down, the final phase kicks off. All ships are expendable except for the Houston, so target them all at the BB and send the Houston on a great circle around the map so that she stays away from the BB as long as possible. Then hop into the sub and drop it to crush depth and get in front of the BB. This is the only realistic weapon you have for sinking the BB. Close to within 0.2 miles, raise depth to level 1 and shoot 4 torpedoes broadside. Drop one depth level and cross to the other side while your torpedoes reload, and hit her again to finish the level.

Mission 8 – Strike on Tulagi:

This one is pretty simple and can be done almost entirely from the tactical map. Start by launching 2 flights of fighters and 2 flights of dive bombers. Send the carrier to the bottom left corner of the map and separate the DD’s to attack the incoming light cruiser. Set the 2 flights of dive bombers to attack the CL and the fighters to hit the incoming enemy planes. Send your B-17’s to the far side of the island looping south and then north. When you see 4 flights of enemy air heading south, then send the B-17’s in to hit the airfield. In the meantime, send dive bombers at the two DD’s and keep hitting all incoming air and PT boats. As soon as the B-17’s have dropped their bombs, send a flight of dive bombers in to finish off the airfield if needed. After that, focus on sinking every ship and destroying the fortress on the lower left side of the island (in the bay where your landing craft will eventually land. If your DD’s are still afloat, send them about two miles west of the northern tip of Tulagi to await the next set of ships. Once everything is destroyed except for the shipyard and any AA emplacements, send two flights of torpedo bombers to the same place as the DD’s and then hit the shipyard with dive bombers. As soon as the shipyard is destroyed you will go to a cut scene and the enemy reinforcements show up, along with your LST’s. Target your DD on the enemy DD and manually steer the torpedo bombers in strike the cruiser. Any planes on the map that do not have ordnance should be crashed and immediately launch more. Send dive bombers at the DD and torpedoes at the cruiser. As soon as both are sunk, you win.

Mission 9 – Battle of the Coral Sea:

Break formation and place the two DDs and the cruiser as a screen in the middle of the map, directly under the path of the incoming fighters. If you spread them out a little bit it tends to be more effective. Place Donald as CAP at the one furthest from the carrier, and launch another three fighters as cap on the middle ship. Then launch three flights of dive bombers and send them straight down to the bottom of the map. The Japanese carrier group should be traversing from west to east and you want to hit them from behind. Target all of your dive bombers on one carrier and you should win. If for some reason you don’t do enough damage with your first wave, just send another (crash all remaining bombers rather than land and refuel). The one thing to pay attention to is if the mid-screen CAP gets down to one plane, crash it and launch three more. Easy battle, even on Veteran.

Mission 10 – Turning Point at Midway:

Launch all fighters with bombs loaded and all bombers ASAP, as well as two PT boats. Set the PT boats to automove in the middle of the bay, and set the bombers to CAP on the PT boats. Target the fighters on the incoming bombers, ignoring the Zeros for now. There are three flights of bombers that come in, targeting in order your bomber runway, your shipyard, and your fighter runway. Losing the shipyard is no big deal, but if you lose either runway it is best to restart. Once the third wave has been dealt with, order all remaining bombers to land for repairs, send the PT boats with auto everything turned on (including torpedoes) at the incoming landing fleet, and order two flights of fighters to land while your remaining fighters target the DD escort. As soon as they drop their bombs have them strafe the AKs until they get shot down. In the meantime, launch more fighters with bombs to take out any remaining ships. You may need to manually pilot the PT boats to sink all the landing craft. When all the bombers have landed, you need to launch all 9 and send them to the middle of the bay.

As soon as the fleet is destroyed, launch 6 fresh fighters to protect your airbases and set the PT boats back in the bay as well. Launch 6 torpedo bombers and send them to the west side of the map. As soon as you survive the first wave of incoming fighters from the Japanese carriers, you will get carrier support. Launch one flight of 5 fighters to protect the carrier (turn on CAP) and place both destroyers forward for additional air defense. Then launch 3 flights of 2 torpedo bombers each.

Send all surviving bombers at the fleet targeting escorts, then send your 5 flights of torpedo bombers at the carrier. If you set them so they arrive spaced slightly apart you can steer them in manually and can easily sink the carrier. If you get shot down and need to launch a second wave, do so, but torpedoes kill the carrier very quickly.

Mission 11 – Endgame at Midway:

The key to success for this mission is to win early so you don’t run out of planes. You will be attacked by a sub right at the start, so that is the first priority. Launch one flight of dive bombers with depth charges while you target the two recon planes onto the sub. If the sub is still moving after the recon planes hit it, sink it with the dive bombers, then send them to shoot down the two Japanese recon planes. These dive bombers will need to reload their depth charges and then fly CAP on the carriers. The second sub is not worth hunting down because you can often win before it gets close to your carrier group, but if you do run across it these guys can sink it in a heartbeat.

Launch all dive bombers from your carriers and sink the cruiser coming in from the north, reload and sink the one from the east, and reload again. Move your carrier group north, staying on the edge of the map, with the screening ships on the east side. The next step is to find where the carriers are, which you can probably derive by watching the direction Japanese planes are coming in from. You want to split your bombers into two forces and send the majority ahead of the enemy fleet and a distraction force to the side or rear. It is very important that the distraction force be a mile or so closer to the enemy fleet than the main force or the Japanese CAP will attack the main force.

When you can see the fleet, zoom in and target all of the main force on the lead carrier and it should sink no problem. If any planes have ordnance left, have them drop it on the other carrier and then you need to make a decision. If the majority of your planes are still in good shape, feel free to fly them back to the carriers to reload. On the other hand, if half of them are lost or severely damaged, you can kamikaze them into the other carrier to save some time and cause a little bit of extra damage.

Then launch 21 (or 24 if you have sunk the other sub) torpedo bombers and split them the same as before and do the same thing. With torpedo bombers, you will often get better results if you steer in manually and drop some of the ordnance yourself. As soon as the second carrier sinks, you win.

Veteran Pilot – 50 GS

Complete all Plane Challenge missions.

[single Player] Beat the Plane Challenge mission set from the Single Player menu.

Mission 1 – Shortage of Reinforcements: You can set your supporting craft to target aircraft while you hop back to your primary plane and strafe the ships. Try to stay high except when diving to strafe to avoid flak. Pretty straightforward mission.

Mission 2 – Saving Tulagi: Bombers will mob you from the south, so send all your fighters as far south as you can keep them. If flying them personally rather than controlling from the tactical screen, aim for engines. When the air attack is over, put bombs on everything and destroy the incoming ships. Similar to the Lombok mission in many ways, although from the Japanese perspective.

Mission 3 – Attack on Force Z: Take out both destroyers first with dive bombers. You will likely have to take control of the squadron and manually select the destroyers as they don’t typically show up on the tactical map. When they are down, dive bomb the carrier and then set 5-6 fighters to take out any of the carrier’s fighters still in the air while you launch bombers loaded with torpedoes. Focus on one battleship at a time and set your bomber groups far enough apart that you can manually fly them in and launch because the computer sucks at hitting them in this mission. Launch the torpedoes at about 0.2 distance and then crash your plane into the BB for additional damage. You have enough bombers that you can crash your whole flight and it lets you launch your next wave much sooner.

Veteran Captain – 50 GS

Complete all Ship Challenge missions.

[single Player] Beat the Ship Challenge mission set from the Single Player menu.

Mission 1 – Strike on the Monster: See the Navy Cross achievement for a walkthrough of this mission.

Mission 2 – Battle of the Java Sea: Make sure to set damage control parties on each ship to water, fire and weapons. Throughout the battle you will need to continually monitor each ship to make sure their engine and rudder are not damaged. Fight a retreating battle to separate the fast but weaker destroyers from the slow but stronger cruisers. This will let you focus on one type of enemy at a time. When fighting cruisers, turn the auto fire torpedo option on for the destroyer closest to the enemy. If that destroyer runs out, change your formation to use a different one.

Mission 3 – Hunt for the Cruiser: Put your ships in a single file and charge at full speed toward the seaplane to find the cruiser. Make sure auto fire is on, and you can turn on the torpedoes if you feel like it as well although it isn’t really necessary. Don’t stop to destroy anything or you will likely get taken apart. When you find the cruiser, change to a box formation and try to encircle it for the quickest victory, although you will want to turn torpedoes off at this point if you had them on earlier.

Mission 4 – Might of Yamato: Separate the destroyers and put them on auto, then make sure the cruiser is in formation in front of the Yamato. Take out the incoming ships and then set the destroyers on the subs as they appear. Set targets and let the AI control the artillery, while you defend the battleship with AA guns. Aim for lower planes first since they are less likely to have dropped ordnance, and obviously hitting them before a torpedo goes in the water is best. Keep an eye out for opportunities to evade torpedoes, but other than that charge for the carriers. As you get closer, remember that broadside you have many more guns than head on, so aim for a point ahead of the carriers when steering. The biggest threat in this mission is airplanes, so speed is essential.

Veteran Submarine Commander – 50 GS

Complete all Submarine Challenge missions.

[single Player] Beat the Submarine Challenge mission set from the Single Player menu.

Mission 1 – Crucial Cargo: Go to crush depth and get to the middle of the convoy. All of the escorts are on the outside, so this is the safest place. Hop up to periscope depth and find the two target ships (gold indicators) and hit them with torpedoes. Two apiece and you are done. This shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes tops to beat.

Mission 2 – Periscopes Threatening: The destroyers are your primary target because they are the only ones who can hit you with depth charges. Take them out first, firing torpedoes at a range of 0.4-0.5 for best chance of hitting. Two per destroyer should be sufficient. The battleship is slow and an easy target, but the cruiser can be a pain since it is faster than you are. You will have to bracket it in torpedoes and try to get a couple simultaneous hits for best effectiveness. Hitting it in the rear half of the ship is much more likely to damage the engine, which should be your primary goal. A stopped ship is an easy target.

Mission 3 – Coup de Grace: Set your northern submarine to full speed, just above crush depth, due east and slightly north. Use your southern submarine as a distraction to pull the escort ships south. Note that you will be hit almost immediately by planes, if you want to avoid that go to crush depth with your southern boat immediately, but don’t stay there. Spend most of your time in the southern one messing with the escort to ensure they stay near you. The northern boat you want to get on the far (eastern) side of the carrier and slightly north, so drop it to crush depth at about 2 miles out and then turn it toward the carrier when you are past it. At about 0.7 miles from the carrier, go to periscope depth and you should be around 0.2-0.3 miles from the carrier by the time you can fire torpedoes. Hit with four pretty much simultaneously on the same section of hull and the carrier will sink. In case you miss with one, turn and hit it with your two rear tubes as well. If you fail to sink it at that point, your best bet is to restart rather than wait around to reload.

Submarine Service Medal – 20 GS

At least 15 minutes unit usage plus used this unit type the most in the mission.

[single Player or Multiplayer] This can be obtained in the submarine challenges quite easily as many of them take longer than 20 minutes to complete. You can also boost for this online with another player.

Air Unit Service Medal – 20 GS.

At least 20 minutes unit usage plus used this unit type the most in the mission.

[single Player or Multiplayer] This can be obtained in the Air Challenges quite easily as many of them take longer than 20 minutes to complete. You can also boost for this online with another player.

Sea Unit Service Medal – 20 GS

At least 25 minutes unit usage plus used this unit type the most in the mission.

[single Player or Multiplayer] This is easy to do in the first mission while you have the PT boat. Simply move slightly forward and then wait 25 minutes with your engine at Stop. Then complete the mission and you will get the achievement. Otherwise, you can get it in the US Campaign. You can also boost for it online with another player.

Torpedo Marksmanship – 20 GS

Achieve 15 torpedo hits as well as most torpedo hits in the mission.

[single Player or Multiplayer] See the Medal of Honor achievement.

AA Marksmanship – 20 GS

Achieve 100 AA hits as well as most AA hits in the mission.

[single Player or Multiplayer] See Distinguished Flying Cross.

Artillery Marksmanship – 20 GS

Achieve 200 Artillery hits as well as most Artillery hits in the mission.

[single Player or Multiplayer] See the Medal of Honor achievement.

Legion of Merit – 20 GS

Team Kill/Death ratio must be at least 5:1.

[Multiplayer] See the Medal of Honor achievement.

Bronze Star – 20 GS

Team Kill/Death ratio must be at least 3:1.

[Multiplayer] See the Medal of Honor achievement.

Purple Heart – 10 GS

Worst Kill/Death ratio among the players.

[Multiplayer] You will get this when playing as the losing side for the Medal of Honor achievement. Alternately, play an online game, don’t get any kills, and ensure you die more than anyone else in the game.

Distinguished Service Cross – 30 GS

Kill 50 enemy planes and 10 enemy ships.

[Multiplayer] See the Medal of Honor achievement.

Silver Star – 30 GS

Kill 10 planes and 5 enemy ships.

[Multiplayer] See the Medal of Honor achievement.

Navy Cross – 40 GS

Kill 10 enemy ships and reach at least 5 min ship usage.

[single Player] This achievement is best accomplished on the first Ship Challenge mission where you control the Japanese battleship. Set your damage parties to water, fire and weapons, set a waypoint to your rendezvous, and then take control of the artillery, press Y for your binoculars, and take out ships as they appear. Don’t concern yourself with evading torpedoes as you won’t get hit enough to sink your ship. Another Japanese ship will eventually show up that you have to keep alive to win, but you can’t control it. Make sure you get 10 kills because if the other ship fires the last shot that sinks an enemy, you don’t get the credit.

Navy Distinguished Service Medal – 40 GS

Kill 5 enemy ships and reach at least 5 min ship usage.

[single Player] You will get this merely playing the campaign mode, or when you go for the Navy Cross achievement.

Distinguished Flying Cross – 50 GS

Kill 40 enemy planes and reach at least 5 min plane usage.

[single Player] The best mission for this is the first campaign mission on Rookie. While controlling the PT boat, move very slowly or not at all and shoot down incoming planes. You can park yourself right under their approach path and take down torpedo bombers in groups of three as they come down to drop their ordnance. Don’t worry about the minisub, the longer it stays alive the more planes you can shoot down. Eventually the other PT boat will sink the sub and you will control Donald’s plane. Shoot down 2-3 of the flights in front of you, and try to avoid being hit by the flak from the ships below. When you see the message on-screen about incoming Zeros, put your throttle to full, get away from the ships, and start circling as tight as you can. The goal is to keep the Zeros alive long enough that you stay piloting the plane for at least 5 minutes. Another flight of allied fighters will eventually come over and shoot them down for you. If you get to 25% health or less, level out and reduce speed to 50% or so, and your allies will make very quick work of the Zeros. You can get this achievement, Air Medal, AA Marksmanship, and Sea Unit Service Medal all at the same time.

Air Medal – 50 GS

Kill 20 enemy planes and reach at least 5 min plane usage.

[single Player] See Distinguished Flying Cross.

Medal of Honor – 150 GS

Must reach the time and hit limits of the Service and Marksmanship medals.

[Multiplayer] You need to spend 25 minutes in a ship, 20 minutes in a plane, and 15 minutes in a sub, as well as getting 200 artillery hits, 100 AA hits, and 15 torpedo hits, kill 50 planes and 10 ship, all in one mission. If both people know what they are doing, this takes about 90 minutes per person. The Japanese player (JP) will get the following achievements: Medal of Honor, Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Cross, Legion of Merit, Silver Star, Torpedo Marksmanship, Artillery Marksmanship, and AA Marksmanship. Use the Solomon Islands map. The American player (AP) will get the Purple Heart. JP should build a submarine and start timing as soon as he takes control of it. Don’t leave to control or build anything else for 17 minutes (a little leeway is a good idea). Proceed to E5. AP should send ships to E5 with free fire and torpedo evade turned off and let JP sink them with torpedoes. At least 17 torpedoes should hit, and count how many ships are sunk. Sit and wait until the submarine time is up. This is a good time for AP to send the two carriers to C5. JP should then build a battleship, start timing, and go to E5 while AP builds battleships and sends them to E5 with free fire turned off. This works best if AP stops their battleships and lets JP get a full broadside from close range with 11 guns at once. It takes 3-4 rounds of this to sink an AP battleship. Count the shots fired and get to 250 in case some miss that you think hit, and make sure that at least 10 ships have been sunk at this point. JP then switches to anti-air guns and defends the battleship while AP launches 3 rounds of 18 fighters from the two carriers. Make sure they have no bombs or torpedoes, and CAP and free fire are turned off. Then take flights of fighters and fly low and level at the battleship in E5 while JP shoots down 54 fighters. At this point, you should have exceeded the 25 minutes of required ship time. JP should build a fighter and go circle for 22 minutes while AP moves the carriers next to the shipyards. JP switches back to the battleship, sinks the carriers, destroys the shipyards, game over, achievements unlocked.

If I move slower I can take out more ships before I meet up with the other Jap boat but I take more damage.

Also when I use Artillery the red dots dont change green when Im on target but if I move closer to my ship with the cursor they change green but when I fire they fall short!

So I end up useing AA fire alot which is slower.

Any hints on aiming artillery would be appreciated.

If you are taking too much damage, pay attention to what is causing the damage and target them first. For instance, if you are getting hammered with torpedoes, aim for the destroyers first. If it is artillery, aim for the cruisers first. Also, actively manage your repair crew (although that is almost always a must, it bears repeating).

The AA will always show green because it is flak and it can shoot at nothing. You are not going to even damage a ship with the AA, the biggest thing it can hurt is a PT boat.

For the artillery, get closer. Depends on the ship, but I think with the battleship you have a range of about 1.5-2.0 miles. Press Y to use the binoculars and zoom in. You have to anticipate where the enemy will be when your shot lands, so you can only rarely shoot directly at the target (basically only if they are headed straight at you). Destroyers are definitely the hardest when they are further away because they move so fast, but you can zoom in and aim right at the front of their ship to make sure your artillery is green, then aim at the water line and about a half ship length ahead. It depends a bit on how far away they are and frankly, I just experimented a little bit to find the sweet spot. A couple of hits on the magazine from the battleship and the destroyers go right to the bottom.

Let me know if you need more help. I have beat all the missions at this point, just going through trying to beat each of them on Veteran twice (to make sure the method I put in the guide works and isn't just a fluke).

Thanks David.

I'll spend a bit more time on the game (same mission) to practive the aiming abit more.

I tried an airplane mission! Damm aim is tough and there was me thinking over G was hard to master.

Aiming in the planes sucks, so I generally let the AI shoot at other planes and with bombs. However, I shoot the torpedoes much better than the AI, so I try to always launch those.

great posts on the campaign guide. any word on the last 5 or 6 missions?

I am posting them as I beat them on Veteran, and to make sure the guide is useful and not just a fluke, I am repeating the same mission again with my own advice. I just posted Tulagi and starting advice for the Java Sea, but I have yet to actually beat Java Sea so it isn't definitive yet.

I also re-organized it so it matches the order of achievements in the list.

I am really struggling to beat Rendezvous in the Java Sea on Veteran. Does anyone have a decent strategy? I keep losing my cruiser before the sub can sink the battleship...

Edit: Finally figured out how to efficiently sink the BB with the sub...see the guide. One mission left!

once i took care of the destroyers and pt boats i set the fletcher back the way it came and let the parrot take out most of the remaining ships. So that when the enemy reinforcements arrived and destroyed the parrot the fletcher was miles away and mission accomplished.

To avoid the fortress just enter where the arrow points in the picture, the 2 bars show the fortress rough field of fire so don't go in between them.

David re mission 5

I'm struggling, first time on vet i cleared all the ships but then got hammered by the CL, now everytime I try I always get blasted by the land artillery when I try going between the coast and the island.

Did you take out the fortress and the other land based artillery?

BTW for the record your guide for missions 1-4 was faultless :)

If you are getting hit by artillery, there are two approaches you can take. First, kill the fortress, second, kill the PT boats. Frankly, I never managed to kill the fortress and beat the mission. On the other hand, if the PT boats go down, the fortress stops firing unless you are pretty close to it (presumably the PT boats act as artillery sighters).

The key to this mission really is speed, if that CL shows up on Veteran you are probably screwed. Go full speed unless you have to back it off a bit to dodge a torpedo, and focus on damage control and sinking the AKs much more than anything else. Be willing to sacrifice the Parrot to get the outlying northern ships since the southern ones are much easier to sink (you are more protected from torpedoes, further from the fortress and the PT base).

Great guide. I've just been doing,

Medal of Honor – 150 GS

Must reach the time and hit limits of the Service and Marksmanship medals.

[Multiplayer] You need to spend 25 minutes in a ship, 20 minutes in a plane, and 15 minutes in a sub, as well as getting 200 artillery hits, 100 AA hits, and 15 torpedo hits, kill 50 planes and 10 ships.

Worked a treat, I also had a 9th achievement unlock, Sea Unit Service Medal. A total of 330 GS for around 2 hours work. Thanks again :)

If I remember right, it's the Solomon Islands map? Heh, I think that might be the ONLY tidbit of information that David forgot to include in his entire, FANTASTIC, guide . . . . ;-)
