GENERAL TIPS

Don't underestimate the power of the knife. When dealing with Los Gandos enemies (the common folk), shoot them in the head or leg once with your pistol, this should cause them to stagger / drop to their knees, allowing you to kick them to the ground. Once they're on the ground, knife them to death. This is a great way to preserve handgun ammo, and the kick can hit multiple enemies in close proximity.

It's better to use this tactic when you're not overwhelmed however, but again, the kick can hit multiple enemies.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for bird nests in the first few levels. Shooting these can net valuable loot or ammo/grenades.

Always use YELLOW HERBS to constantly increase your healt-bar. Once you've fully upgraded your health in down right corner the yellow herbs are not much of use anymore. For better results mix them with Green & Red Herbs.

Not so important for many but, BEFORE PRESSING THE GUIDE-BUTTON make sure to go into the menus via :back: or :start: cause otherwise you will be overrun by Ganados, since the game continues even with being in the guide-section (checking messages, chat etc.).

Before you TUNE-UP any weapon's CAPACITY at the merchant make sure it's empty cause as soon as you upgrade it to the next level you will have FULL AMMO. This little trick saves you a lot of bullets

You can open locks, crates etc with your knife. While it may seem obvious to some players, its a solid way to save some ammo.

Also, if you hit the "open" button twice on doors, many times you will kick the door open. This speeds up the process if there are enemies closing in, as well as knocking back any enemies waiting on the other side.

A quick tip for the Village instead of running into the building and prompting the cutscene where Leon blockades the door, leading to a fight with a chainsaw weilding mad man, just run around the village killing all the regular folks, until a cutscene happens. Then you can run into that house and get the shotgun...except now the chainsaw guy will not spawn.

Once you meet the merchant for the first time, I highly recommend you buy the Treasure Map from him, the treasure you find will more than make up for the money you spend on the map itself.

Once you get Ashley and once you've upgraded your health bar all the way, you can start giving her the yellow herb/green herb mixture to max out her health as well.

-Egg Farming

When you get to the farm, where they introduce the blue medallions, the chickens there will lay eggs, collect those eggs, then exit that area by heading back the way you came, then re enter the area and the chickens will again lay eggs, the regular eggs sell for 300, the brown for 600, and the gold for 3,000.

-Crow Farming

The first time you go to the area where the El Gigante is first fought, if you kill the Crows gathered in the area(I recommend using a flash grenade, instant kill), you will earn 3000-5200pesetas (which is considered good for starters) and a Flash Grenade (this happens most of the time). Just go back to the merchant and then back out to the area with the El Gigante and the crows should respawn.

Pro Tips:

- Only upgrade capacity if you are low on ammo

- Don't upgrade any magnum

- Don't buy the Broken Butterfly once you are able to, you'll get a free one later

- Upgrade the Bolt-Aciton rifle (!!! - _extremely useful and damaging weapon once upgraded; extra damage by far outshines the speed of the semi-auto rifle); personally I don't buy a scope, the default zoom works just fine, plus you dont need any extra space wasted in your case

- Don't upgrade the default handgun; sell the Punisher (reward from the blue medaillons); wait until you can buy the Red9 and upgrade it; it's by far the most powerful handgun in the game

- Don't upgrade your first shotgun you get; also don't buy the Riot shotgun; wait until you get the Striker and upgrade it: It has wide spread, fast fire, high capacity and high damage

- Ignore the TMP and minethrower completely

-Blue Medallion Guide: 10 Blue Medallions will get you the PUNISHER handgun, and 15 Blue Medallions will get you an upgrade for said gun.

What Are They Worth?

Use the TMP, just tap the trigger so that only one bullet comes out. By doing this you can build up 5 hits in a row which will bring out a high value Salazar target, MAKE SURE YOU HIT IT. If you can manage to do that and also avoid hitting any Ashley targets you should unlock all your bottlecaps in NO TIME.

For professional mode....

- Only upgrade capacity if you are low on ammo

- Don't upgrade any magnum

- Don't buy the Broken Butterfly once you are able to, you'll get a free one later

- Upgrade the Bolt-Aciton rifle (!!! - _extremely useful and damaging weapon once upgraded; extra damage by far outshines the speed of the semi-auto rifle); personally I don't buy a scope, the default zoom works just fine, plus you dont need any extra space wasted in your case

always shoot the 15 blue medallions that appear early in the game. for 10 you get a punisher pistol and for 15 it gets a damage upgrade. its worth 15,000 pesetas if you sell it. although what i do personally is not upgrade the standard 9mm and sell that when i get the punisher. then sell the punisher later for the red 9

guy above me mentioned it too, but he does it a bit different.

bottom line, free gun!

- Don't upgrade your first shotgun you get; also don't buy the Riot shotgun; wait until you get the Striker and upgrade it: It has wide spread, fast fire, high capacity and high damage

I think it is worth upgrading at least the fire power of the starting Shotgun and maybe the capacity if you are after more ammo because you don't get the Striker until much much later. You can sell it later when the Striker becomes available and you will easily gain eneough Pestas by Chapter 5 to gain the exclusive.

By upgrading the Shotgun you will have an easier time in the harder sections before the Striker becomes availble such as the dreaded Water Room.

That's my opinion anyway, there are so many ways to approach weapons in this game. :)

I'll add a couple of tips regarding grenades as well:

- For an easy time against the boss at the end of Chapter 2 save up 6-8 Incindary Grenades. This will kill him without any bother, just make sure you let him recover after each grenade to ensure the damage registers. Combine the grenades with the barrel and you can beat him very easily.

- Remember that Flash Grenades kill parasites instantly and are great if you have a few around you. They also stun enemies around you so can be a great get out of jail free card.

- Don't shy away from using grenades in general. Your attache case can only hold so many so if you are in a spot of bother get one out. Especially against the El Gigantes. Flash Grenades will stun him to allow you to have a few free shots and you only need to 2 Hand Grenades for each phase to expose his parasite. Can save you a lot of hassle against these. Especially early on when ammo is harder to come by.

- As you near the end of the game start to stock grenades as the final boss doesn't like them so it's worth having a few handy!

With regards to starting difficulty:

- I recommend starting on Normal even if this is your first time playing the game as on the easy setting you miss fairly large sections of the game.

Control type difference:

Type I:

Swing Knife - :ltbut:+:xbut:

Ready Knife - :ltbut:

Fire - :rtbut:+:xbut:

Reload - :rtbut:+:abut:

Ready wepon - :rtbut:

Type II:

Swing Knife - :lbbut:+:rtbut:

Ready Knife - :lbbut:

Fire - :ltbut:+:rtbut: (like many games)

Reload - :ltbut:+:abut:

Ready wepon - :ltbut:

The rest is the same!

Advantage of using TYPE II, you will also be able to successfully do some Quick-Time-Events during bossfights.

For example:

[spoiler=Type 2]In Seperate Ways: The last fight with Saddler. I was simply standing the control room upstairs, waited till he come and then he was all the time in front of me, triggering his heavy attacks and I was already aiming & shooting with :ltbut:+:rtbut: and when the buttons showed up to dodge his attacks most of the time it was also :ltbut:+:rtbut:, less than :abut:+:xbut: so you dodge automatically.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solution for the "tablet puzzle" in the knights room while playing with Ashley in chapter 3-4:

| 1 | 2 | 3 |

|--------- |

| 4 | 5 | 6 |

|--------- |

| 7 | 8 | 9 |

[spoiler=AshleyGraham]

Sorry, I know I could've done it better but here is the solution. Just move the tablets in this order::

Few more tips, when you first get to the area where you face the el gigante for the first time, during the day there will be a bunch of crows staying still. Throw a flash grenade at them and you will get a TON of money. Also, some of the torches that are lit have treasures in them that can be obtained by knifing them.

Oh and after throwing a flash grenade at the crows im pretty sure one of them drops another flash grenade everytime so you just make profit. I'm not sure though so could someone confirm this?

Also don't forget to check the oven inside of the Village Chiefs house. It should have an egg in it.

Theres a part towards the beginning where theres only one guy left and you can jump down the ladder into some water that have fish in it. You can shoot the fish and collect them. They restore health and can be sold for a decent price.

If you save your treasures you can combine them later with other treasures and sell them for more money. And i believe you can clean dirty treasures, i'm not sure though.

You could possibly have 200-300k+ PTAs by the time you reach the fight with the village chief.

I don't remember but i think I could get 1.2 million PTAs+ per playthrough when i played this on the Wii.

EDIT: You can also go up to some pictures on the walls and can press the action button and take the painting down and you can get secret gold behind them.

Not sure if its on the xbox version as im unable to confirm yet, but on chapter 1 you can kill the chainsaw guy that is guarding the exit gates to Pueblo Village for a red ruby. He will only be around before the bell sounds and before the house with the shotgun cutscene. After this you can kill another chainsaw guy who comes when you activate the shotgun house cutscene. Killing him results in an extra 10,000 PTAS.

EDIT: I got this from a treasure guide but once again im not sure if the xbox version is different:

"- I recommend starting on Normal even if this is your first time playing the game as on the easy setting you miss fairly large sections of the game."

Are you serious? Like what sections? Please elaborate.

EDIT- Nevermind, I'll make a thread in case others don't know this either.

An extremely easy way to kill Verdugo, Salazar's "right hand", is to hold on to the rocket launcher you find while exploring the castle. Just equip it before the fight with him begins. When Verdugo first appears, knock over one of the canisters. Now that he's frozen simply shoot him once with the rocket launcher and it's an instant death. There, you just saved yourself a lot of ammo and fighting him in these tight corridors!

Interesting, just tried it, couldn't get it to work, maybe I'm just to stupid haha. Let me know if you managed to do so.

the ditman glitch works, equip the STRYKER, hit LT and START almost simultaneously then once you are in the inventory screen, equip another weapon, BOOM, you are moving/shooting/jumping/slashing EXTRA FAST!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

10. The solution for the "colored insignia symbol in the church" in chapter 1 is:

[spoiler=Seperate Ways]Rotate/Turn the red light 3x, the green light 1x and the blue light 2 times. Then combine it.

If complete normal first u can use Infinite Rocket Launcher on Pro as well right?

Well I just completed it on NORMAL and I unlocked the Rocket Launcher & Matilda. As soon as you start a NEW GAME+ (New Round) the merchant screen will appear before the game. If you have the dinero. ;)

Infinite Launcher - 1.000.000 Pesetas

Matilda - 70.000 Pesetas

Special Custom Unlock: Leon's RPD outfit, Ashley's Disco outfit

As for the PROFESSIONAL mode yup it's after your first run available on the main title screen.

- Ignore the TMP and minethrower completely

dude, these were my exact strategies too when I played it on the gamecube! Except I would upgrade the Magnum when I was done with everything else.

This thread was put together by myself and JuSt BLaZe

Hehe, good times! Appreciate it.

If anyone has additional infos, feel free to share! Maybe about UNLOCKABLES. I can only share the ones from the German USK-Version but that wouldn't help much, since it does not contain Mercenaries nor Assignment Ada.
