Help, Tips, and Mission Reference (Spoilers?)

I can't remember everything I wanted to mention, but I'll try to update some later. For now, I've made a few notes, and I'll put up a quick reference of all the missions that simply shows what enemies appear in them and how many of the big ones. I find it helpful sometimes. If notihng else, you can use it to track down enemies for the kill count achievements. If you get hung up on a specific mission, post here and maybe I can offer ideas.

----------------------------------------------

Things To Know

----------------------------------------------

Basics:

1. Armor - There is no practical armor limit. It's something over a billion. You can farm it until you can beat Inferno.

2. Classes gain armor at different rates. The boxes are NOT 1 to 1 gain.

3. Online missions have weapons and armor restrictions until you reach 70% online completion. Offline missions do NOT have this limit.

4. Kills count instantly toward achievements, but items are only saved if you complete the mission. This means you can restart to get the kill count achievements.

5. There are 85 missions offline and 94 online. The 9 online only missions are randomly mixed in, so the online missions are numbered different. All the same ones as offline are there though.

6. Missions online scale enemy health based on number of players in the lobby. 1 player or 4 players is a 3x multiplier, 2 player is 1.87x, and 3 player is 2.5x. Yes, one player is just as hard as 4 player. Numbers are from the JP wiki.

7. Save a Shield Bearer. Random EDF AI will pretty much never kill a Shield Bearer while you're trying to collect items.

Split-Screen:

1. Bringing 2 classes through on split-screen will complete the missions for both, BUT you need to switch the 2nd class to your main controller for one mission after to pop the achievement for it.

2. If playing offline you only get weapons for the one that picks them up. If playing online, both classes get weapons.

3. Armor counts for both classes, and running 2 of the same class gets you double armor.

4. Kills on the second controller do NOT count in your battle history. Only the kills on the main controller count for achievements.

5. Don't overlook how useful the 2nd controller can be. For example, Air Raider can drop tanks, sentries, or power posts to help Ranger. You can also use one controller for a quick suicide run to eliminate one or more annoyances at the start of a mission.

6. Only Ranger and Air Raider can drive vehicles. For this reason, I advise running them together and putting Wing Diver with Fencer in most cases.

Inferno:

1. Don't be afraid to run a mission 3 times instead of 2 if you find it a lot easier with one class than another. The Wing Diver's Gungnir sniper does 150k damage and her mobility can make certain missions substantially easier. For example, I beat that crazy spider mission (52 offline, 56 online) with a 2900 armor Wing Diver on Inferno, but I couldn't do it with a 32,000 armor Ranger on the JP version. I also used Wing Diver to finish the final mission for all 3 classes with stupid low armor and some luck.

2. Find the right weapons for the job. Mission 11 is considered one of the easiest farming missions. 31 (34 online) and 70/71 (75/76 online) are considered good as well. I always liked 83 and 84 (90 and 93 online) later on. The 16th mission of the 2nd DLC mission pack has the most weapon and armor drops per run, but it's rather difficult starting off.

3. Don't piss off everything on the map all at once if you don't need to. Sometimes a sniper is much better than homing rockets. Most of the explosives are terribly underpowered by later missions on Inferno anyway.

4. The mission with the single bee hive to kill and the final mission can be completed flat on your back. If you kill them before you die, it will still say mission clear when they're finished dying.

Good Weapons:

Ranger - AF100, Lysander Z, Hercules

Wing Diver - Idunn-FF, Thunderbow XD, Monster-S, SIG Sniper, Gungnir (150k damage, painful reload), RZR Plasma Launcher, Mirage 15WR, Fenrir 3-Way. --The high damage, short range weapons like Hreidmarr and Luonnotar can be incredibly useful in the right situations as well. I love using them to down tunnel exits. Plus, they're good to knock away red ants/dragons since it's like a 1 hit kill even for those. It's also great for dealing with those Retiarius bastards.

Air Raider - Power Post ZM, ZEXR-GUNs, Epsilon Armored Blast Railgun E. --I haven't tried soloing much as Air Raider, but his limpet guns and air strikes can be rather powerful. Also note that Power Posts, sentry guns, and other things can be mounted on vehicles (and pretty much anything) and will stay there. I've even stuck them to enemies. It's hilarious watching a dead enemy flail around cause there's a turret stuck to it still firing.

Fencer - Jackhammer MA, 35mm Gallic Heavy Cannon (10k damage, but nasty recoil), FGZ Hand Gatling, Dexter Automatic Shotgun. --Again, I've barely used him, but these are what I've found useful so far. Dual wielding the Jackhammer MA will kill damn near anything point blank in seconds.

Well, thank God there's some Kind Spiders in this mission. After all this shooting maybe we can all just sit down and talk for a change. :uzi: *whew*

Not a specific mission but how do you deal with Dragons? These things are insane on Inferno, must be some tactic I'm not thinking of.

They're a bitch. I've always found Wing Diver works best on those missions. I like to use the Idunn-FF/Thunderbow XD and Hreidmarr. I've done some of those missions just hopping around and one shotting those things with the Hreidmarr. The Fenrir 3-Way or Mirage 15WR are nice to speed through at lower difficulties, but not nearly as helpful on Inferno. AF100, AF99-ST, or even Hercules are worth trying. I never got much use out of shotguns, but I know some people do.

Anyway, the main thing is usually NOT to concern yourself with the ones in the sky. Let them land and keep hopping away (or rolling with Ranger) and light them up with a weapon that's effective against them. It's nice when you have a few AI allies to distract them, even if they're just chew toys.

Great thread, have you any tips for mission 52 inferno using the ranger in solo? this similar mission in edf2017 was just about doable using the zexr turrets and af100 but this is insane!

The closest I got to soloing that with Ranger was with the AF100 and Stampede XM just constantly rolling away and grenading every time I reloaded. The Wing Diver with an Idunn-FF makes it a cake walk. The only way I actually pulled it off with Ranger was split-screen with Air Raider. I dropped ZEXR-GUNs and a chopper. Then I took off in the chopper with the Ranger. When it ran out of ammo, I dropped onto the tallest building I could find and just ran laps around the roof with the AF100 killing spiders one or two at a time until they were finally all gone. There are right around 200 spiders in that mission, btw.

some of these missions are ridiculous, mission 68 - sniper attack online mode solo is just impossible, complete overkill of enemies if you are doing it solo.

The trick to that mission is to stay on the building until all 4 transport ships are down. The extra spiders only seem to spawn if you drop down while those ships are still alive.

Does pulling through another class in co-op still work? It says achievements cant be unlocked when I press start on the second controller?

That probably means for the account or guest on the second controller, so use the heavier pulling though character on the second controller and the weaker character on the first controller. E.G. you have maxed Ranger and got the wanted achievements for it - so it that character as player 2 and the newer un gained one on the first controller. (That's what I'll be doing). I only know that for sure if you are using 'guest' account for the 2nd, I don't quite know what happens if you log an actual gamertag in.

No, you want to use the stronger/more useful class on your main, so the stuff you're killing counts for those achievements. Then you run a single mission afterwards with the other class as the main to pop its achievement for the difficulty and/or armor.

So I finished Normal and Hard solo offline with the Ranger with just over 2000 armour but didn't use a second controller for another class, so now I have 10 playthroughs, not 8. I'm going to begin with the Wing Diver now on Normal and use the Fencer as player2/controller 2..so basically I just go through all 85 missions like this then when I get the achievement for the Wing Diver I just do, say, the first mission with the Fencer and I get the ach for all normal missions with the Fencer? I know you mentioned this in this thread but wasn't sure what to do!

PS. Does the second controller have to be an actual Xbox Live account signed in or can you select "Guest"?

Thanks.

Yeah thats what you do.

You can use a Guest or another profile, I use a profile as you get booted back to the menu if you get disconnected from live with a Guest.

Apologies for another post, just wondered Viper, did you play this on 360? and have you gotten the 1000gamerscore? That's what I'm aiming for as I'm a bit of a completionist but fully aware its going to take months

Yes. I have 1000 on both the JP and US versions of the game.
