Introduction

Wordament Snap Attack is the long-awaited sequel to the Windows Phone exclusive indie game turned mobile phenomenon, Wordament. In line with the copy-cat nature of its forefather, Snap Attack is a Scrabble-like game with a few twists. Each round, all players are given the same seven letters to use continuously to build interlocking words, called snaps, with the goal to score the most possible points in just 150 seconds. Rounds are live and you are battling against the rest of the world. It feels true to the original game, but does differentiate itself nicely. The game is FREE though ad-supported in the Windows Phone Store.

Step 1: Miscellaneous achievements

The bulk of the game's achievements fall into this category. About half of the achievements will unlock with ease by performing very basic moves within the game. Several other ones will require a bit more thought. "World Champ" is a leaderboard achievement and will require that you reach Top 250 rank in one leaderboard, which overall is not too hard if you approach it the right way. See the individual descriptions below for the best technique to unlock each achievement.

Step 2: Grind to 500 games played and 2.5 million score

After you knock out the miscellaneous achievements, you will need to continue playing to reach 500 games played and 2,500,000 total score. In total, this will likely consume around 35 to 75 more hours of your time, depending on skill.

Conclusion

Snap Attack is a worthy sequel to the original and even offers a relatively easy achievement list. Once you knock out the achievements that require planning and thought, you can grind the rest of the achievements with little effort. The leaderboard achievement will either make-or-break this completion, but with a simple trick, it should easily be obtainable by all.

NOTE ABOUT WINDOWS 8, WINDOWS PHONE, iOS and ANDROID SYNCING: Both the Windows Phone and Windows 8 versions of the game operate on the same server. The total points and rounds played achievements ("Addict", "Rehab", "Sore Fingers", and "High-5 Hundred") will unlock immediately after a round after completing the requirements. For example, if you have 500 games played on the Windows 8 version, simply load up the Windows Phone one and complete a single round to pop the achievement on that platform as well. For the leaderboard achievement, "World Champ," you can earn the achievement and rise to the top 250 players on a single platform. If you have done so, simply booting up the game on another platform will unlock the achievement there as well. No other achievements sync and must be completed separately.

GUIDE

Make a Snap. Place your tiles on the board to make words.

This achievement will unlock when you make your very first snap (i.e. word). It can be as short as two letters. As soon as you successfully connect one of your tiles to the board, the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/2.jpg Bonus - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Play on a bonus tile.

This achievement simply requires that you make a snap that covers a bonus tile. Bonus tiles are the double and triple word and letter tiles. As soon as you create a successful snap incorporating a bonus tile, the achievement will pop.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/3.jpg Snap Snap - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Create a Multi-Snap. Multi Snaps use at least 2 words

This achievement requires that you create a single Multi-Snap. These are formed when you create two or more words at a time on the board that are connected to one another. Simply create one snap, then look for a spot where you can add another snap to it.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/4.jpg Recall - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Make a snap, recall your tiles and make a new snap

This achievement requires that you make a snap, use recall, then make another snap. First lay down any snap. Make sure you are awarded the points for it. Then hit the recall button in the bottom right of the screen (looks like two interlocked arrows) to bring all your letters back to the rack. Now create another snap to pop the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/5.jpg Double Double - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Use the same bonus tile twice in one snap

This achievement requires that you use the same bonus tile twice in one multi-snap. Basically you want to build a snap that uses a bonus tile. Once that snap is confirmed, build a second snap off of your original one, making sure to include the bonus tile once again. This will pop the achievement as this new multi-snap is using the bonus tile twice.

Make a snap using a multi-letter tile

This achievement requires that you make a snap using a multi-letter tile. Multi-letter tiles only occur about once every ten rounds and are distinguishable as two letters on a single tile. These tiles can either occur in your rack or already be locked in place on the board. Simply create any snap using the multi-letter tile to pop this achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/7.jpg Multilingual - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Play Tap-Snap in more than one language

This achievement requires that you play at least one round of Snap Attack in two different languages. From the Main Menu, you can change the Puzzle Language by swiping over to Help & Options. Before starting a round, switch the language. As soon as you complete a round in a second language, the achievement will unlock.

Play all seven tiles in a Single-Snap

This achievement requires that you play all seven of your tiles in a single-snap. They must all be included in one snap (word), and therefore cannot be part of a multi-snap. Because the board is only 7 squares tall, but 8 tiles wide, there are two ways to unlock this achievement. In the left part of the photo below, a vertical 7-letter word is demonstrated, adding the word ASSAULT on TIME. Though this does make a multi-snap, all seven letters are contained within one word. The example on the right shows how you can make an 8-letter word, in this case, BARNACLE, by using a single letter of a vertical word already present on the board. Coming up with these long words is no easy task, so for this achievement it is best to use a solver. A good one can be found HERE. As soon as you meet the requirements, the achievement will pop mid-game.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/9.jpg Lucky Seven - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Play all seven tiles in a Multi-Snap

This achievement requires that you play all seven of your tiles in a multi-snap. They must all be included in one multi-snap (conglomeration of words). Overall, this is much easier than the "Bingo" achievement. You just need to have all seven of your tiles contained in two or more words that are touching one another. In the left part of the photo below, a multi-snap using all seven letters is demonstrated. TIME is locked onto the board to start. By adding letters to create TASSLE going down, and then connecting the word ATE to that, a multi-snap has been created (because more than one word is connected) with all seven letters. Another way to pop the achievement is demonstrated on the right part of the image, again starting with TIME and using the same letters. Here, a 5-word, 7-letter multi-snap is created. Just try to jam all seven of your letters onto the board and make sure they are connected to pop this achievement mid-game.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/10.jpg Trifecta - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Play the same Single-Snap in three different ways

This achievement requires that you play the same single-snap three different ways. It must be the same word and it needs to be located in three different positions across the board. This is most easily done with two letter words, such as AS, IS, IT, MA, AD, LA, EL, ES, etc. In the image below, the words TEAM and TOPPLE are on the board by default. Circled in red are three different locations that the word AD can be placed on the board using a few additional tiles from your rack. The letters in the numbered circles can all be placed down separately, and do not need to be on the board simultaneously. Simply play the same exact snap in three locations throughout the entire round, regardless of location or other letters used, to unlock this achievement immediately.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/11.jpg Get in shape - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Make a snap in each of the following shapes

This achievement requires that you make a snap conforming to each shape outlined in the Achievement menu and is cumulative across all rounds. In total there are 56 shapes you must create with multi-snaps. Many of them will come without trying over time, but several of them will require real thought. Most of the shapes can only be placed on certain board configurations. Once you eliminate a good portion of them from natural play, start knocking them out one by one. The first step is determining if a shape can be made on a board. If it can, then you need to create the words to fill that specific multi-snap shape.

The first photo below shows all of the shapes, with the most difficult ones circled in red and numbered. All shapes start in a grey color and turn blue once you find them. The subsequent photos shows the best (and in some cases, the only) way to form the shape on a board. You will need to dedicate numerous games in their entirety to finish off all of these shapes. Keep them in mind as you play and remember, only the tiles that flash green are included in your shape.

13947869977_625b213443.jpg

Shapes #1/2: These can be tricky mostly because you need to create two side-by-side 4-letter words that also need to align properly to create four 2-letter words. While this is at least possible on most boards, it is difficult. The easiest method to obtain these is to wait for a specific board configuration that occurs periodically (but somewhat rarely) where two words will align directly beside on another, as shown in the image below. Here, half of the battle is already won for you. The black words are the only words on the board at the start. You only need to worry about placing four letters correctly to complete the shape.

13948018609_932e8d6914_z.jpg

Shape #3: This shape is a complete 3x3 square. This is also tricky as you need to be quick on your feet to come up with the combination of words that works. It cant be placed on all boards, but it can be done on about half of them. You only have seven tiles in your rack, so you must incorporate at least two default tiles into the shape. The easiest method to obtain this achievement is to again wait for the configuration from Shapes # 1 and 2. In this case, two thirds of the work is already done. You only need to find a place to put three tiles. See the image below for an example.

14131787872_651aba76cc_n.jpg

Shape #4: This is probably the most challenging shape to create of them all, for two reasons. First, board configurations where this shape is even possible to create are rare. Secondly, you need to be a master to prepare four interlocked 3-letter words to complete the shape and it even requires some luck. This shape can only be created on wide open ends of board words. See the example below. Basically you need to use the final letter in a word as one piece in the shape. It can be a corner of the shape, or an internal piece. Then build your circular cluster of words to complete the shape.

Create a highest scoring snap

This achievement requires that you create a snap that scores a large amount of points. The exact value is unknown, but this achievement will pop fairly easily with no effort. Make sure to use bonus tiles and try to score as many points as possible with a single or multi-snap. This should unlock in one of your first few games, especially once you get a hang of the gameplay.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/13.jpg Sore Fingers - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete 100 full games

See "High-5 Hundred."

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/13.jpg High-5 Hundred - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete 500 full games

These achievements require that you complete 100 and 500 full games of Snap Attack. In order for a game to count, you must be present when the round starts and finishes AND play at least one snap. Once you meet the requirements and finish your current round, the achievement will unlock. Each round is 2.5 minutes long, and the post-game lobby lasts about 45 seconds. In total, this means you will need to spend 25 to 30 hours playing the game to complete 500 rounds. You can check your progress in the stats on the Main Menu. However, the counter for this achievement is separate and is usually several games off the stats counter. If you reach the threshold there and don't unlock the achievement, keep playing as it may take up to 20 or more additional games to pop the achievement.

Achieve 50,000 cumulative points

See "Addict."

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/16.jpg Addict - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Achieve 2,500,000 cumulative points

These achievements require that you reach a cumulative total of 50,000 and 2,500,000 points across all of your rounds of Snap Attack. These achievements will come with time. Once you become familiar with the gameplay, you should have no problem scoring at least 1000 to 2000 points per round. In your 500 rounds, an average score of 5,000 points or more will net you this achievement as well with no additional play time. This however is unlikely.

Your average score per round will determine how long it takes you to complete this achievement. A typical player should be able to at least average 1,500 points per round. Averaging more than 3,000 is only for the best players. Strategically using a word solver to create and manipulate high scoring words can be helpful and will most likely increase your score and decrease the completion time once you get the hang of it. Click HERE for a decent solver to use. Some baseline values are given below:

Avg of 5,000 - 500 rounds - 27 hours

Avg of 4,000 - 625 rounds - 34 hours

Avg of 3,000 - 833 rounds - 45 hours

Avg of 2,000 - 1250 rounds - 68 hours

Avg of 1,000 - 2500 rounds - 136 hours

Avg of 500 - 5000 rounds - 272 hours

Some tips to scoring big (from Ozzpot):

  1. Use the multipliers. Look at the locations of the 2x Word or 3x Word multiplier tiles and play words that make use of them. The higher value the word, the better. I will call this first big word on the board the "base word".
  2. Make combos. This is where the big points are. Build new words off of your base word, even if they are only 2 or 3 letter words. Trust me, you will get used to playing words like AI, EN, OI, YO, EM, AE, AY, etc. Make sure you find as many combos as you can, even if that means frantically swapping letters around on a whim. You do not get punished for playing words that don't exist.
  3. Importantly, use up all of your letters in a single combo as often as possible as it scores extra points. If your base word just won't allow you to make these full combos, do not waste too much time on it.
  4. Once you have found all the combos you can for your base word, change the base word. Often you can alter it only slightly, for example, change "TAMED" to "MATED", and then play almost all the same combos again to double your score. These small changes will save a lot of time, so find every variation you can. If you can pluralize your base word, do. If your base word is "GAME" see if you can make "GAMES" and don't forget "GAMED", "GAMER" and "GAMERS". Make as many combos as you can for each, and be quick about it.
  5. Perform those steps as quickly as you can, and once you have exhausted all the base words you can see in that place on the board, if there is still time on the clock, switch to another place that preferably has a multiplier tile, and start gold-mining all over again.

By moving a single tile, create multiple independent snaps

This achievement requires that you create two separate and new snaps by moving a single tile. The photo below explains the process in a way that is easy to understand and recreate. However, this achievement is very easy to do by accident and will likely unlock for you with no effort in one of your first few games.

  1. Find a place on the board where you can add three letters in the fashion shown below. They should be directly beside a word on the board and in a line. Do not put them into position, just plan them out.
  2. Place the middle letter first, making a 2-letter word.
  3. Place an adjacent letter, it doesnt matter which side of the original one. In the example, the E was placed above the T. This made three 2-letter words.
  4. Place the final letter in position. This will create one 3-letter word, and three 2-letter words.
  5. The final step is to remove the middle letter. This will create two new single-snaps, popping the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/18.jpg Swap Snap - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Swap 2 tiles and make a new snap

This achievement requires that you swap two tiles at once to create a new snap. First you need to create a snap. Then, come up with another snap you could make simply by swapping a single letter you have with one already in the snap on the board. For example, in the image below, PILLS is locked onto the board to start. The snap SHARE is created. In your rack, you also have a P. By dragging the P and dropping it in the place of the E in SHARE, a new snap, SHARP is created, unlocking this achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3021/19.jpg World Champ - 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Achieved "Sore Fingers" and "Addict" and placed in the top 250 of the “Top Player” leaderboards

This achievement requires that you earn the "Sore Fingers" achievement and play in the top 250 of any Top Player leaderboards within the game. Let's break down the requirements one by one.

First, you must have obtained the "Sore Fingers" achievement for completing 100 full rounds. You must also have scored a total of 2,500,000 points to be eligible for this achievement.

Finally, the most difficult part of this achievement will be placing in the top 250 of a "Top Player" leaderboard. Currently there are only 5 of such leaderboards, all related to total score. There are for all time, today, this week, this month, and this year. It is likely that more types of leaderboard will be added in the future, for things such as top scoring snaps and average snap score. Some general tips to get in the top 250:

  • The daily leaderboard would be the most approachable, however, all but the all time leaderboard could be managed if you get cracking at the very beginning of the period (i.e. at the beginning of the week, or on January 1st), just after the leaderboard has reset.
  • Change your language. English is without question the most competitive language to play in. More obscure languages will likely be added to the game over time. For now, there is only Spanish, French, and Italian. Any language would have a smaller user base than English. Just by randomly merging letters together you should be able to break into the top 250. Especially if you play at a time when the countries that speak a specific language are sleeping. NOTE: You must have 100 games played and 2,500,000 points in the language that you are reaching the top 250 of the leaderboard on. This requirement means that English is probably your best bet, despite how competitive it is.
  • Using a solver will help you earn points and climb the ranks faster. See the "Addict" achievement for gameplay specific tips.

Overall this achievement is not that bad if you try to time you play with the leaderboard resets and even switch to a different, less popular language.

GLITCH NOTE: The achievement may unlock at the end of the round after all of the requirements are met. However, for some folks, despite having met the requirements, "World Champ" will not pop. If you met the other requirements, but it doesnt unlock, just keep playing rounds and occasionally fully exiting the game. Upon loading in and connecting to the Wordament.net server, the achievement will eventually pop at the Main Menu.

I believe you have to reach a total score to get the World Champ achievement. I am ranked top 150 and have 120+ games played but do not have the achievement yet. I only have 14k score. What total score did everyone have when they unlocked the achievement.

Yeah it could very well be. It could be 50k score. And the description is just a typo, and in fact you need to have Rahab unlocked, not Addict. Good call.

Which leaderboard are you ranked top 150 on?

You need 250k points now for the achievement as that's been fixed. I got my achievement today.

  • 4 weeks later...
have 450'000 points, 250 games, in the top 250 for day, week month (and have been for about 24 hours), loaded the game multiple times.

no unlock for world champ

Hmm weird you should email the devs. Maybe they glitched it when trying to fix it.

They also said they will be soon requiring Addict to be unlocked as well, but that would start in "a few weeks"...

Not sure what you are trying to say here. By App do you mean windows Phone?

Also, for addict I was under the impression both Win Phone and Windows 8 updated to be "2,500,000" 2.5 million points.

Yeah if I open snap attack and look at the achievement list

The description for addict is achieve 250,000 total points.

If I look at the acheivement description on xbox.com

the description for addict is achieve 250,000,000 total points.

However I did receive an update late yesterday for the application, snap attack now shows 250,000,000 as the description.

Problem solved I think now!
