Introduction:

Monopoly Deal is a game that is different from the traditional game of Monopoly as it is a card game. It may be confusing at first because of how different it is, but it is easy to play once you understand the rules. This is a very short and easy completion although it is very luck based as many achievements require you and/or your opponent to possess certain cards.

This game is online only and requires you and at least one other person to start a game, so make sure that you have a gold account before you start playing. It is also highly recommended to find a boosting partner to make this game easier and faster to complete. If you need to find a boosting partner, please check out the Official XBA Boosting Session Information and Discussion Thread.

Step 1 – Understanding The Rules

In order to win the game, you need to have three complete sets of cards; the amount of cards that you need to complete each set varies depending on the color of the card, but it will be somewhere between 2-4 cards. As a reference, here is the amount of cards that you need to complete each color in the order that they go in the game:

  • Yellow: 3
  • Green: 3
  • Blue: 2
  • Black (Stations): 4
  • White (Utilities): 2
  • Brown: 2
  • Light Blue: 3
  • Pink: 3
  • Orange: 3
  • Red: 3

Here are some other numbers of cards that will be good to keep in mind while boosting:

  • 2 Deal Breakers
  • 2 Double the Rent
  • 3 Forced Deal
  • 3 Houses
  • 3 Hotels
  • 3 Just Say No
  • 2 each of all two-colored rent cards

Upon starting each turn, you will draw 2 cards; after this, you will have 3 moves, so plan them carefully! If you do not wish to take all three moves, you are able to end your turn early. You can also only have 7 cards in your hand at a time; if you have any more than this at the end of your turn, you will have to choose which cards to discard until you have 7 cards again.

In Monopoly Deal, you also have a bank. You should deposit all money cards in the bank upon receiving them. You can also deposit other cards here such as Forced Deals and Rent cards (almost any card can be banked with the exception of property cards), but be warned that once you put a card in the bank, it can not be taken out or ever played again in the game. If you think you or your opponent may need a card, do not attempt to give it to them and pay them with it; you should be putting the card in the discard pile instead as the card will eventually show up again for the other person to pick up. If you want to give/receive a property card from you partner, the property card should be played on the game board

Step 2 – Play the Game

Once you have a person who is willing to help you get the achievements and also has a basic understanding of the rules, it is time to play the game! You can earn the achievements in any order you would like and can get some of the achievements in the process of trying to earn other achievements. You will not be able to earn all of the achievements in one game, so it is best to go for certain achievements in different games. I highly recommend trying to earn the “Business Master” achievement and the “I want those ones” achievement in separate games.

Conclusion:

Monopoly Deal is a simple, easy completion although it can be rather frustrating due to the luck that you will need while earning the achievements. Once luck is finally on your side, you will have another 1000G added to your Gamerscore and another completion! I hope this guide was helpful to you and that you enjoy having another completion!

Use a “Double The Rent” card on the full dark blue set with a house and hotel.

When tacking this achievement, you will want to make sure you have the following:

  • A complete set of blue cards (wild cards are ok)
  • A house and a hotel
  • A green and blue rent card (There are only two of these in the deck; any other rent card will not work for this achievement since it will not give you)
  • A Double the Rent card (There are only two of these in the deck)

If you come across any of the cards listed above, please make sure you hold on to them until you need them. If your opponent ends up with a blue property before you get a complete set, they should play the card so you can either steal it, have them use it to pay rent, or force a trade. If they come across any other card that you need, make sure they discard it so you have a chance of eventually drawing it.

As soon as you get blue property cards (or wilds that can be used as blue property cards), make sure you play them. Once you have a complete set, play the house and hotel cards on the blue property (in that order). This will unlock the “ Investor” achievement if you do not already have it. When you have both the Double the Rent card and the green and blue rent card in your hands, play the green and blue rent card on your blue property and select the double the rent option when it prompts you about wanting to double the rent.

By using a “Forced Deal” card, both players get a full set.

For this achievement, you will need to have a Forced Deal card, which allows you to swap a property card with your opponent. If you come across one, hold onto it until you are prepared to get the achievement. Keep playing the game until both you and your partner have only one card missing in a set and the other person has the color that is needed for the set to be completed. When this happens, you will use the Forced Deal Card, select the card that the other person needs, and then select the card that you need. When the deal is completed, and both players put down their newly received cards, the achievement will unlock for the person that used the Forced Deal card.

As an example, Person A is trying to earn this achievement and has 2 red cards and a black card on the table while Person B has a red card and 3 black cards on the table. Person A will use the Forced Deal card and select the black card since Person B needs this card to complete their black set. Then, they will choose the red card that Person B has so Person A can complete their red set. After they deal is completely finished, the achievement will unlock for Person A.

Never play property cards. Steal them or request them as payment to finally win the game.

For this achievement, you can not play any property cards that are in your hand. If you draw a property card, discard it as soon as possible because playing it will void the achievement for that game. You will want your partner to play as many property cards as they can. Play as many Sly Deal cards as you can as well as any cards that ask your opponent for money such as Rent cards, the It’s Your Birthday card, or the Deal Collector card; you will want your opponent to give you property instead of money. Please note that you can not steal full sets without the Deal Breaker card; there are only two of these in the game, so if you come across one, use it wisely!

If you come across the Deal Breaker card, it may be a good idea to go for the “Tactician” achievement during this game.

Counter a “Just Say No” card with a “Just Say No” card.

Both you and your opponent will need Just Say No cards in order for you to earn this achievement. Once both of you have this card, the person earning the achievement needs a card that will demand something from the other person upon its use (for examples - Sly Deal, Forced Deal, It’s Your Birthday, Deal Breaker, Deal Collector, or a Rent card). The other person needs to use their Just Say No card instead of complying to the request, and then the person who played the action card will need to play their Just No Card in return in order to obtain the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95749-lo.jpg Collector 60:gsicon:

Have 1 of each kind of property on the board, including Stations and Utilities

You need to have one of each of the 8 colored properties on your board for this achievement. Play as many property cards as you can and use wild cards as often as you can so you can get different colors filled on the board. If your opponent has a color that you need, have them give it to you via a deal card or a make them pay it as rent. Since you will have at least 8 cards on the table after earning this achievement, it would not be a bad idea to go for the “Settler” achievement right after this achievement unlocks.

The colors that you need in order are:

  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Black (Stations)
  • White (Utilities)
  • Brown
  • Light Blue
  • Pink
  • Orange
  • Red

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95750-lo.jpg Wild wild set 60:gsicon:

Have a full set composed of only "Property Wildcards"

You will need to use property wild cards for this achievement. There are several property wild card in the game, so feel free to mix and match any of the following cards (the number indicates how many of the card is available in the deck):

  • 2 Rainbow (can be used for any color)
  • 2 Pink-Orange
  • 2 Yellow-Red
  • 1 Green-Blue
  • 1 Green-Black
  • 1 White-Black
  • 1 Black-Light Blue
  • 1 Brown-Light Blue

I recommend trying to go for completing the Blue, White, or Brown properties because they only require two cards, which is the least number of cards it takes to complete a set.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95751-lo.jpg Settler 50:gsicon:

Have at least 12 properties on the board, including Stations and Utilities

You need to have 12 properties on the table for this achievement. This can be earned easily if you keep playing property cards, but be careful not to make three complete sets before you earn this achievement. I recommend trying to get only one or two of each color in order to avoid winning the game before getting this achievement. Please see the “Understanding the Rules” section of the Roadmap for the amount of cards it takes into to complete a set for each color.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95752-lo.jpg Gimme money 40:gsicon:

Use 5 “Rent” cards during a game

You will need to use 5 Rent cards during the course of one game for this achievement. Once you have a property card on the board, you can use a rent card of the same color on the property. Keep using rent cards in the game until this achievement finally unlocks.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95753-lo.jpg Selective 40:gsicon:

Win without having a “Property Wildcard” in your full sets

You will want to avoid using wild cards for this achievement; I recommend discarding any wild cards that you pick up so you do not accidently use one. Keep using cards that are only a single color to create sets. If your opponent ends up with a single-colored property card before you get a complete set, they should play the card so you can either steal it, have them use it to pay rent, or force a trade.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95754-lo.jpg My properties!!! 40:gsicon:

Never pay with properties during the game

For this achievement, you will want to make sure that you do not use property cards to pay for any rent. To avoid this, you can ask your opponent to not use Rent cards against you. If they use a Rent card, you can use what you have in the bank to pay for it.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95755-lo.jpg Tactician 30:gsicon:

Use “Deal Breaker” as a final move to win the game

The Deal Breaker card allows you to steal a full set of cards from your opponent. There are only two Deal Breaker cards in the entire deck, so make sure you hold onto it if you receive it or that your partner discards it if they happen to draw one. Once your opponent has a full set, use the Deal Breaker card to steal the entire set from them for the achievement. It does not matter if you have any of the cards in the set prior to using the Deal Breaker card.

Be the first to have a full set

For this achievement, you will need to be the first person to complete a set of cards. To see how many cards are needed for colored set, please refer to the “Understanding the Rules” section of the Roadmap.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95757-lo.jpg More cards! 20:gsicon:

Play 3 “Pass Go” cards in a single turn

You will want to hold on to Pass Go cards until you have three of them on your hand. After you have three cards in your hand, play all three of them on your next turn, or play them all three of them on your current turn if you have not taken a turn yet.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95758-lo.jpg Investor 20:gsicon:

Add a hotel

This achievement is for adding a hotel to one of your properties. In order to do this, you will need to have a full set of cards as well as the house and hotel cards. Once you have a full set, add the house, and then the hotel. You will get this achievement while going for the “Business master” achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3267/95759-lo.jpg Rent basics 20:gsicon:

Use a “Rent” or “Multi-Colored Rent” card on a full set of properties.

Before going for this achievement, you will need to have a complete set. Once you have a complete set, use a rent card of that color or a rainbow colored rent card on that property for this achievement to unlock.

  • 2 months later...

I posted in the other guide as well, but with the update adding AI players, you can now get all achievements offline. The only one that requires the AI set to anything other than very easy is Final No. You must play with the AI set to normal, as lower difficulties won't play action cards like Just Say No. I started maybe 20 games and only finished 4 or 5. It took less than 5 hours. Boosting would be faster, but I could never find anyone to play against.
