Introduction

Rock Zombie is a side scrolling beat 'em up similar in style to Sega's legendary Golden Axe series. You play as one of three characters from a female rock band - Zoe, Sasha or Crystal - to overcome the zombie apocalypse through 21 unique stages.

The game is currently on Gold offer at a discounted price of £5.11 (RRP £6.39).

Glitched Achievements

The game currently has a few glitched achievements, most notably "Kill 500/2500/5000 zombies". It can take upto or over 20,000 kills as opposed to 5000 to unlock "Zombie Killer (Gold)".

Step 1: Casual/Normal Playthroughs

I would recommend playing through the game once with each character (3 playthroughs total) on either Casual or Normal to get a feel for how the mechanics work/enemy layout which will help for the Hardcore achievement run.

During these three runs (using my achievement explanations in the follow up post below) go for these achievements:

- Red Flavour

- Yellow Flavour

- Blue Flavour

- Rock & Roll (Silver) / Rock & Roll (Gold)

- Heavy Metal (Silver) / Heavy Metal (Gold)

- Black Metal (Silver) / Black Metal (Gold)

- Death Metal (Silver) / Death Metal (Gold)

- Master of Metal

- Love In Trenches (Bronze)

- Zombie Killer (Bronze)

- Arachnophobia (Bronze)

- Hot Girl (Bronze) / Hot Girl (Silver) / Hot Girl (Gold)

Step 2: Hardcore Playthrough & Farming

Since some of the enemy achievements are glitchy, you will be spending quite a bit of time farming them after your initial three playthroughs. Silver and Gold versions of remaning achievements can be farmed via Level Select.

Before attempting the Hardcore playthrough, it would be wise to obtain Zoe's alternate costume and weapon 3 from the Zombie Museum. In my game they were numbers #4 and #45 respectfully. I am not sure if the listings of items in the museum are randomly generated or fixed, but give those numbers a try. Alternate costume and Weapon 3 add better strength and increase in magic, so you will have a much easier time with the Hardcore playthrough.

You can mop up/farm any remaining achievements using my methods listed in the achievement descriptions below.

This will unlock after you have completed all related achievements. See the achievement descriptions above for details on how to obtain them.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110179-lo.jpg Collector - Unlock all of the Zombie Museum items - 190G

This is quite a grind, but since the 'Kill 2500 zombies' and 'Kill 5000 zombies' are glitchy, you can work towards them along with this one.

For grinding out this achievement I would recommend:

Play Game > Replay Level > Back In Red > Difficulty: Arcade 1990 > Any character > Any costume > Any weapon.

Mow down zombies with the bike, collect coins but avoid acid, flames, cars and walls. It will take around 3 minutes to complete the stage. Aim for 1900-2000+ score and it will net you 300+ coins per turn.

IMPORTANT: It seems the coins you earn during Story mode do not save as you are automatically signed out of the game after completing it. Therefore I would suggest farming coins in the "Replay Level" section instead, where they are confirmed to save after you complete a level.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110178-lo.jpg Purist - Complete the game on Hardcore difficulty without using any Continue - 100G

Play Game > New Game > Difficulty: Arcade 1990 > Zoe > Costume 2 > Weapon 3.

I would recommend unlocking Costume 2 and Weapon 3 for Zoe before attempting this. You get better strength and magic. For myself, Zoe's Alternate Costume was #4 in the Zombie Museum and Weapon 3 was #45.

I managed to get through 18 levels in a single life. Stages 19 and 20 get a bit hectic, so kill smaller zombies with the guitar and save magic for bigger zombies that vomit on you or the smaller zombies that charge you. You can use RB to unleash a powerful magic attack if you get surrounded, otherwise just use the X button magic attack. Walk around things like spider webs and mines, time your runs carefully through gas and acid leaks and run away from flame zombies after you kill them as they will explode. You should have enough of an idea of enemy layout after playing through with all three characters first. Remember to collect cassette tapes to replenish your health and Records to add another life. You can go to Pause > Reset Level if you take too much damage or feel you can do better. Practise against bosses on casual first if you feel like it. On Arcade 1990 setting bosses take more damage and have slightly extended attacks.

Just play through from start to finish without using a continue and this achievement will unlock at the end.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110191-lo.jpg Love In Trenches (Gold) - Kill 100 Marines - 30G

Marines show up in stages 12 (...And Justice For Us) and 13 (Sympathy for the Army) and are equipped with either guns or grenades. You can grind this achievement out in Play Game > Replay Level.

All of the "Kill X amount of enemies" achievements appear to be glitchy. All I can recommend is to keep killing until the achievement pops.

See Zombie Killer (Gold).

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110194-lo.jpg Zombie Killer (Gold) - Kill 5000 zombies - 40G

You need to kill 500/2500/5000 zombies. However, along with the "Kill X amount of Marines and Spiders" achievements, they are incredibly glitchy.

500 zombie kills should come in your regular story playthroughs.

I didn't unlock Zombie Killer (Gold) until I hit around 15,400 zombie kills and someone else I know didn't unlock it until after 20k kills.

You can pick any of the stages with plenty of zombies in to grind Silver and Gold out. Its accumulative, so work on other achievements and focus on these ones last. They will pop eventually, so just keep at it.

See Arachnophobia (Gold).

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110197-lo.jpg Arachnophobia (Gold) - Kill 200 Spiders - 20G

Spiders show up in stages 9 (...Fallen Angels) and 10 (Rock and Roll Queen). You can grind this achievement out in Play Game > Replay Level > Rock and Roll Queen. Don't kill the Queen spider and simply let her lay eggs and kill the spiders when they hatch. By not killing her she'll come out of the cave, lay eggs, run back to the cave in a continuous loop and you'll get endless waves of spiders to kill. Watch out for the zombies that spawn behind you. Once the achievement pops you can finish the boss off or quit out to the menu.

All of the "Kill X amount of enemies" achievements appear to be glitchy. All I can recommend is to keep killing until the achievement pops.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110200-lo.jpg Hot Girl (Gold) - Destroy 100 explosive items - 20G

Simply destroy any of the items that have 'Rock Zombie' written across them, such as barrels and wooden barriers. You should easily get 100 within your 4 playthroughs.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3880/110174-lo.jpg Miss Universe - Unlock all achievements - 200G

This will unlock once you have all other achievements.

They all appeared correctly after playing via Level Select and returning to the Zombie Museum each time. New Game/Continue may be glitchy?

Yeah I played it again yesterday seems to be fixed now, I did contact them a week prior to release about it and they said they were aware already and fixing it ,they look to have done that.

Was a right pain before for the entire playthrough I did I only got a couple of hundred coins.

Hey just a couple quick tips on your guide.

You say four playthroughs are required but it looks to me like only three are. One for each character, and if you do one on hardcore then you only need three playthroughs. If that's the case, you should say 3 playthroughs minimum, and if you want you can add that 4 is recommended.

Also, in your road map you mention boosting quite a few times but I think you're using this incorrectly. To me, boosting implies you're going to be working with another player to work around achievement requirements. I think "grinding" or "farming" would be more appropriate to the context of playing levels over and over to get kills and gold. Boosting is a little misleading, at least to me.

A few things:

I've noticed if you go to achievements from the in-game menu, there are coin values attached to them. Were these supposed to be rewards for unlocking different achievements? I'm not getting the rewards, but what is the point of the coin value otherwise?

Also, a list of the items in the museum in order would be nice. Otherwise good guide.

I can confirm that as of 11th Dec 2015 they HAVE NOT fixed the gold problem.

I have played through the game twice and still only have 200 coins.

When I complete the game it unsigns me out and boots to the main menu. I sign in and no progress has been saved. Ridiculous, basically I can never get the achievements in this game as I cant earn money.

Thanks everyone, I will update my guide with your suggestions :)

My Xbox One is at my brothers now until after New Years, but I'll try to get him to list them for me.

Also, I assumed that the coin value of the achievements would deposit into your overall coin total as well, but I think they only did once sadly.

You can, just choose Level Select instead. I got all achievements in the game so it's possible. I also got booted out of my profile at the end of the story.

As for the signing in issue, you can avoid it by NOT signing into your profile before launching the game and choosing to do so after launching the game instead.

I would recommend using Crystal(with alt outfit and 3rd guitar) over Zoe for the hardcore run as her magic is strongest, and stays full when hitting almost all enemy types. Her Y button attack stays charged if you kill anything with it(requires the 3rd guitar), this doesn't work with Zoe or whatever that other chicks name is lol.
