Introduction:

Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey Remastered plays like a turn-based RPG, but instead of selecting attacks, you are presented with a grid of 15 letters, and you must spell words to do damage to enemies. In general, the longer the word, the more damage. Adding to the gameplay are character upgrades for things such as health, attack strength, defense, etc., weapon upgrades, potions to heal with, and books which can be equipped for additional stat bonuses. All of these things must be purchased with gems, which is the game's currency. The game itself is fairly easy providing you've got a strong grasp of the English language or have no qualms about using a Scrabble solver. If you prefer to go the latter route, use the following link and the majority of the game will be a breeze: http://wordunscrambler.com/

Story Mode:

Story mode consists of a total of 40 stages, 30 of which are normal stages and 10 of which are labeled as "hard" stages. Each of the 40 stages has three normal (yellow) stars to obtain and one crystal (red) star. Note that the stars are not a ranking for how well you performed in the stage. They each require an individual playthrough of the stage to unlock. Therefore you'll be playing each of the 40 stages a minimum of 4 times each to unlock all of the stars for the achievements. Don't worry though, since completing each stage takes less than a minute in some cases to a few minutes in the harder stages. The first star is a normal playthrough of the stage; the second star is a time trial (don't worry, the time trials give an extremely generous amount of time to complete); the third star has special requirements; and the crystal star turns enemies into "elite" enemies along with special requirements.

I recommend playing through the stages one after another, and at a minimum unlocking the first and second star for each stage. Usually the third stage is pretty easy to complete right away too. DO NOT try for the crystal star until you've got the majority of the upgrades purchased. This is especially important because the crystal star on stage one is one of the tougher ones without any upgrades. As you play through the stages, you'll start unlocking upgrades for purchase, books, and weapons. I highly recommend focusing on attack and health upgrades initially and getting them maxed out, then upgrade defense. For the books, I recommend buying the ones that increase gems obtained from enemies and gem piles first, which will help you build up gems to buy all of the upgrades very quickly. Once you've got plenty of gems, switch books to ones that increase damage and healing (completely ignore the ones that affect the treasure chest game and time trial times; they're completely pointless).

After you've played through the story and gotten all 120 yellow normal stars, you should have most if not all upgrades. At this point you should be ready for the crystal stars. Make sure you have a full supply of potions just in case, and you shouldn't have any serious problems then. Once you've gotten all 40 crystal stars, your story mode playthrough is complete.

Endless Mode:

Endless mode is completely independent from story mode; none of your upgrades or gems carry over, and all weapons and such that you can choose from are purely cosmetic. Endless mode starts you back at your basic state and allows you to fight one monster after another for as long as you can survive. After every couple monsters you'll come across a merchant selling items, which you can buy with gems that monsters have dropped. Here you can buy not only potions to heal, boost damage, and boost defense, but you can also buy attack and defense upgrades. Remember, the money you earned doesn't carry over or save if you lose, so there's no reason to save up any money in endless mode. You'll have to play endless mode a minimum of 10 times, but in general it's very easy to unlock all of the achievements in this mode without much trouble.

Conclusion

Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey Remastered is a very simple yet fun game for those who enjoy word games such as Scrabble, Boggle, Ruzzle, etc. The gameplay mechanics are very straightforward but the RPG aspect of upgrading makes the game much more fun and interesting than just plowing through stage after stage. The game itself is quite easy, as is earning all of the achievements, especially if you use a Scrabble solver. There are a few achievements that will require some grinding to unlock after completing all other achievements, but even that shouldn't be too time-consuming. All in all, it's an enjoyable, relaxing game with some very easy achievements.

Achievement Guide

Spell 1500 words

See "Born To Spell" achievement description.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114864-lo.jpgBorn To Spell 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 2500 words

NOTE - the 2500 words can be in either story mode OR endless mode. Keep in mind that there's an achievement for spelling 750 words in ONLY endless mode too, so don't grind this out after you finish story mode before doing endless mode.

This will likely be one of the last achievements to unlock in the game and may require some grinding. After completing story mode and endless mode (including spelling 750 words in endless mode only) there's a very good chance you'll unlock this or be very close, which is highly dependent on how much you use the word solver (which assumes you're constantly using long words instead of many short words). The best way to grind out words is naturally to make a ton of three-letter words instead of longer words.

Once you've unlocked all of the other achievements and are ready to grind this out, go to stage 7 where you'll fight a giant bunny that takes no damage from 3-letter words. Equip books to improve your healing and defense, and then just spam him with 3-letter words, healing with potions as needed to stay alive. Eventually he will kill you, but by that time you'll have used a ton of 3-letter words and shouldn't have to repeat this for very long to reach 2500 words.

Use 5000 letters

This one will definitely unlock naturally while going for the other achievements. Considering you need to spell 2500 words for the "Born to Spell" achievement, and the minimum word length is 3 letters, you'll be using a minimum of 7500 letters to unlock all other achievements.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114866-lo.jpgShow Me The Money 30http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Bust apart 100 gem piles

At the end of every stage there is a gem pile that you must bust apart by spelling a word. The longer and more complex the word, the more gems you'll be rewarded with. This achievement will be unavoidable while going for all of the stars since there is a gem pile at the end of every level, and you'll need to play 160 levels to get all of the normal and crystals stars, so no need to worry about this achievement while playing.

Beat a stage with only 1 health remaining

This is one of the more difficult achievements to obtain, only because it's very difficult plan it out ahead of time. It's possible you will get lucky randomly at some point while playing, but most likely you'll get through the game without ever being damaged down to 1 health remaining.

If you want to try to plan it out ahead, enemies do a set amount of damage (unless they critical hit), so you could try to calculate how much damage they do and subtract it from your total health to see if they'll leave you with 1 health.

If, like me, you make it to the end of story mode and haven't gotten this achievement but you've gotten all the upgrades, a guaranteed (albeit very long and boring) way to get this achievement is to go back to stage 1 and let the enemy attack you. Assuming you have all of the defense upgrades, he will only do 1 damage when he hits you. Press :ybut: to swap tiles (which essentially skips your turn) and just allow the enemy to continually attack you until you're down to 1 health, then kill him to finish the stage.

IMPORTANT: make sure you don't have anything equipped (books or weapon) that will give you health or convert damage to health so you don't spend all that time getting to 1 health only to regain some health when you kill the enemy! ALSO NOTE that orange crystals regain health, so avoid them when going for this achievement!

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114868-lo.jpgSix Pack 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 50 six-letter words

See "'Oct'-oberfest" achievement description.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114869-lo.jpgSee You in 'Sept'ember 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 10 seven-letter words

See "'Oct'-oberfest" achievement description.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114870-lo.jpg'Oct'oberfest (groan) 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 5 eight-letter words

First off, be aware that these achievements aren't stackable. You must spell words of the exact lengths for each of these achievements. Making 6-letter words is general very easy, especially when you can add '-ed' to the end of some verbs. Making longer words will be a little more difficult if you don't want to use a word solver (linked in the road map). In general, to lengthen words keep an eye out for common prefixes and suffixes to tack onto smaller words to lengthen them. Here are some examples:

- Prefixes 'pre-' 'anti-' 'un-' 'be-'

- Suffixes: '-ed' '-ers' '-ing'

If you have no qualms about using a word solver to get these achievements, use the following link: http://wordunscrambler.com/

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114871-lo.jpgA Man, A Plan, A Canal, Panama 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 25 palindromes

Palindromes are words that are read the same way forwards and backwards. This achievement will most definitely not come naturally, since you'll likely be focusing on longer, high-damage words during each of the game modes. This achievement is easy to knock out while grinding toward the 2500 words for "Born to Spell" but you can also do this anytime during your playthroughs as long as you keep an eye out for palindromic words.

Here are a few common examples that you'll see pop up often:

ama, ana, eve, ewe, mom, dad, tat, tet, tot, tit, wow, yay, pop, pep, pup, peep, poop, deed, sees

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114872-lo.jpgWHY? 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 3 words with no vowels

This is a pretty easy to knock out quickly, and you'll definitely need a "Y" available to spell a word with no vowels. Here are a few examples of words with no vowels:

dry, pry, cry, try, shy, why, sly, ply, wry, fry, fly, pht (yes, that last one is a word and is not a typo!)

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114873-lo.jpgYay Everyday Royalty 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell a word that contains two 'Y's

The achievement title gives you three examples of words that contain two 'Y's. Naturally the simplest and most common word will be "yay." Keep an eye out for this one while playing since getting two 'Y's on the board isn't all that common, although it definitely happened to me multiple times during my story and endless playthroughs.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114874-lo.jpgFEELING REALLY GOOD! 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell 200 double-letter words (ex. 'BUBBLE')

Like the example shown in the achievement description, a double-letter word is a word with the same letter back-to-back. Even though it shows "bubble" as an example, double-letter words with consonants will likely not be as common as double-letter words with vowels. So keep in mind if you've got a double 'E' or a double 'O' that those can be used to make double-letter words as well. As long as you keep this achievement's requirements in mind while playing, it should easily come naturally while playing and you shouldn't have to force it.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114875-lo.jpgSwappy McSwappington 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Swap all letters 50 times

Swapping letters occurs when you press :ybut: and it replaces all of your letters with new letters. It also skips your turn, so bear that in mind if you want to replace all your tiles with new ones. Also be aware that swapping tiles doesn't remove special tiles such as poison, plague, spike, etc.

You probably won't need to do this very often as long as you keep your vowels and consonants pretty balanced while playing. If you don't get this naturally or while going for other achievements (see "Close Call" achievement description), go to level 1 in story mode and just press :ybut: every time it's your turn. You'll get 50 swaps well before the monster can defeat you.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114876-lo.jpgCrystal Conqueror 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell a word containing 2 or more crystals

Crystals appear randomly and have various bonus effects depending on their color. In general they will stay on the board until you use them or an enemy uses an attack to destroy them by turning them into poison, spike, plague, etc., tiles.

Once you have one tile on the board, purposely avoid using it until a second tile shows up, then use both tile letters in the same word and the achievement will unlock.

To increase the chances of crystals showing up, there is an upgrade that can be upgraded to increase the chance for crystals showing up. I wouldn't recommend spending gems on this early though since this achievement will likely come naturally without needing an upgrade for it.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114877-lo.jpgMy Precious 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Use 100 crystals

See "Crystal Conqueror" achievement description.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114878-lo.jpgRow Row Row Your Boat 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Use an entire row in one word 3 times

Each row consists of 5 letters, so you'll naturally need to make words 5 or more letters long to get this achievement. If you're using a word solver, this will almost assuredly come naturally. If not, you can purposely manipulate the board to get tiles where you need them for this achievement. For example if you have a row with PPADE you can use the 'D' in a word with lower row letters to try to get an 'R' in its place (to spell PAPER), or use a 'P' to try to get an 'R' (to spell PARED).

In general though I wouldn't focus on this achievement as it will likely unlock naturally while going for the other achievements.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114879-lo.jpgIn The Corner 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Use 500 corner letters

This achievements tasks you with using one of the four corners letters a cumulative total of 500 times. This will unlock naturally well before unlocking the remaining achievements, so you can definitely proceed through the game without worrying about farming corner-letter words.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114880-lo.jpgAll Plagued Out 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Fill the entire board with plague tiles

If you don't happen upon this achievement naturally while playing, it can be easily gotten in stage 18. Plague tiles are dark red with some black splotches, and when you use them they do zero damage, and if you don't use them they turn adjacent tiles into plague tiles.

In stage 18, the enemy will turn tiles into plague tiles often. When you get to him, continually hit :ybut: to skip your turn until he turns all of your tiles to plague tiles. Plague tiles do disappear after a couple turns, but just keep at it until all of your tiles are plague tiles.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114881-lo.jpgPrinting Press 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Fill the entire board with duplicator tiles

If you don't happen upon this achievement naturally while playing, it can be easily gotten in stage 26. Duplicator tiles have little molecular symbols on them, and when you finish a turn they duplicate themselves on nearby tiles.

In stage 26, the last enemy (the black one) will turn tiles into duplicator tiles often. When you get to him, continually hit :ybut: to skip your turn until he turns all of your tiles to duplicator tiles. It's possible he could turn your tiles to whirlwind tiles, but it shouldn't take long for him to turn them all to duplicator tiles.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114882-lo.jpgSir Punch A Lot 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Deal 10000 damage

See "Sir Punch A Bunch" achievement description.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114883-lo.jpgSir Punch A Bunch 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Deal 25000 damage

These achievements will come well before collecting all stars in story mode. Longer words deal more damage, as do letters with more dots on the bottom of their tile (three gold dots being the best). Crystal star levels will often provide opportunities to deal massive damage, as you'll find high-health enemies with special abilities such as "takes 8x damage from words containing 2 or more corner letters." These achievements will definitely come naturally while collecting all stars so no need to farm damage on any enemies.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114884-lo.jpgWhat Was The Point? 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell a word that does zero damage

There are two ways to get this achievement:

1. Wait until an enemy turns some of your tiles into cracked or plague tiles. Cracked tiles and plague tiles do no damage, so if you can spell a word with all cracked/plague tiles it will do zero damage

2. Wait until you face an enemy with a special requirement such as "only takes damage from 4-letter words," which is the case for the crystal star on stage 1. Spell a word of any length other than 4 letters and it will do zero damage.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114885-lo.jpgMonster Masher 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Defeat 250 monsters

This achievement is cumulative across all game modes. Keeping in mind you need to defeat 100 monsters in Endless mode alone, this achievement is unmissable while collecting all of the stars and playing Endless mode.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114886-lo.jpgPrecision Striking 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Defeat 5 monsters with exact damage

This one will likely come naturally with all of the monsters that you'll be defeating, and hopefully so, since planning it out ahead of time is pretty tricky. The amount of damage done by each word length and each combination of dotted letters is set (i.e. a three-letter word of three one-dot tiles will always do the same damage), however that damage will change based on how many attack strength upgrades you have.

To aid with this, there is a "special" item you can purchase from the "special" tab that shows how much damage an enemy will take from the word you've spelled out. This can help with trying to do exact damage to an enemy.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114887-lo.jpgSo Close! 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Leave a monster with only one health

If you're lucky, this one will happen naturally in one of the two modes while going for other achievements. I personally had it happen 2-3 times. As mentioned in Precision Striking, there is an item that can be purchased which shows how much damage a word will do to an enemy. If their entire health bar is flashing, it means your word will defeat them, so you'll want to do as much damage without their bar flashing.

This is another achievement that's best not to focus on while playing and it will most likely come naturally while going for the others.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114888-lo.jpgSidestepper 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Dodge 50 attacks

Dodging attacks is something you have no control over and will happen randomly. There is one weapon, though, that increases the chance to dodge an attack by 10% if fully upgraded. So if you don't unlock this achievement by the time everything else is unlocked, you can always equip the weapon that increase dodge chance, replay stage 1, and just continually press :ybut: to skip your turn. You'll end up dodging the enemy's attack pretty often and should unlock this achievement in no time.

This achievement pairs nicely with the "Close Call" achievement, as you'll likely be skipping your turn multiple times while waiting for your health to lower far enough.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114889-lo.jpgCritically Acclaimed 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Perform 100 critical attacks

Like dodging, critical attacks occur randomly. Also like dodging, there is a weapon that increases critical attack chance, and can be upgraded to increase chance even further. In general, this is a handy weapon to have upgraded as the critical hits really help out with some of the bigger enemies. Pick up this weapon early on and keep it equipped and you'll have this achievement well before collecting all of the stars.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114890-lo.jpgTile Trouble 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Lose from taking tile damage

There are two types of tiles that do damage to you when you use them in a word: poison tiles and spike tiles. Poison tiles are a vomit green color with some black splotches; spike tiles are grey with some dark spots that represent spikes. The more of these letters you use in a word, the more damage you'll take from them. Even so, they will only do 20-60 damage depending on how many you have on the board to use. For this reason, you should get this achievement early in the game before you upgrade your health.

If you miss it, play one of the last stages where the only enemy is a boss, and continually skip your turn with :ybut: until your health is low. During the enemy's turns, he should be turning your tiles into either poison or spike tiles every so often. Once your health is low enough, spell a word with as many spike or poison tiles as you can to kill yourself.

Use 25 plague tiles

Plague tiles are dark red tiles with black splotches, and the letters do zero damage when used. The plague also spreads to nearby tiles if they aren't used, making more tiles plague tiles.

This achievement is cumulative across both game modes, so as long as you use plague tiles to clear them from the board as they appear, this achievement will unlock well before finishing story mode.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114892-lo.jpgSaving Up 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Earn 15000 gems

See "It's A Bling Thing" achievement description.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114893-lo.jpgIt's A Bling Thing 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spend 25000 gems

Gems can only be earned in Story mode; enemies drop coins in Endless mode instead of gems. Gems are earned two ways: dropped by enemies or from gem piles. There is a gem pile at the end of every stage, and the longer the word, the more gems it will give.

I highly recommend purchasing upgrades towards getting more gems from gem piles right away, as well as buying the book that gives more gems from monsters. Getting these two first will allow you to earn gems faster to purchase more upgrades.

At first 25,000 gems will seem like a lot, but after spending 25,000 gems and buying every upgrade, I finished story mode with around another 20,000 gems, so this achievement should come naturally while collecting all of the stars.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114894-lo.jpgNeed A Pick Me Up? 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Purchase 10 potions

Potions are purchased in Story mode from the merchant and cost 100 gems each. At first you'll only be able to carry one of each, so you'll have to either use them in battle or fully upgrade your potion-carrying capacity to carry mode. Fully upgraded, you can carry 5 of each, but you're given a health potion for free, so you'll need to use it to buy a 10th one.

This one will most probably come naturally as long as you remember to buy potions, since you'll likely want to use potions while trying for the crystal stars. If not, you'll have plenty of gems left over after collecting all stars to use all your potions and then restock until the achievement unlocks.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114895-lo.jpgWe Have The Technology 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Purchase 30 upgrades

Upgrades only count in Story mode, even though you can buy attack and defense upgrades in Endless mode. More types of upgrades will unlock as you progress through Story mode, and each upgrade for a specific item costs more than the previous. Because of this, you'll need a lot of gems to purchase 30 upgrades (around 20,000 or so).

It's highly recommended to purchase the upgrades for increasing the gems you get from gem piles first, as this speeds up collecting gems in general, allowing you to purchase upgrades sooner.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114896-lo.jpgLibrarian 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Purchase 5 books

Books are perks that can be bought from the merchant in Story mode and equipped to provide bonuses. There definitely aren't five worth purchasing, so once you have extra money and don't need anymore upgrades, buy a few books to unlock the achievement. Each book costs 500 gems.

It's highly recommended to purchase the book that increases the gems dropped by monsters first and equip it early, since it'll make your gem total rise much faster, allowing you to buy more. The other handy ones to buy are the one that deals more damage for 6 or more letter words, and one that heals you, since those two will help tremendously in battle. You can completely ignore the ones that affect the treasure chest minigame and the time trials, as they're useless (unlocking chests is easy and the time trials have way too much time as is).

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114897-lo.jpgWhat're Ya Buyin'? 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Purchase 50 merchant items

This one will almost come naturally with the other achievements, since you'll be purchasing 30 upgrades, 10 potions, and 5 books, plus 2 weapons most likely. You'll have plenty of money at the end of Story mode to buy more upgrades and items though, so you can always buy whatever you have left at the end to unlock this achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114898-lo.jpgQuest King (or Queen!) 50http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete 70 quests

Quests are available only in Story mode, and 3 are available at any given time. They can be viewed during battle or at the Story mode map. Completing quests rewards you with a pretty good amount of crystals, and completing this usually requires doing something pretty simple (use the letter E ten times, use 20 corner letters, etc.) so make sure you stay aware of what quests are active and work toward them as often as you can while playing. When you finish a quest, a new quest takes its place.

There are 70 quests total in the game, and you also have the option to skip quests (which also counts as completing them) by paying gems. This may seem backwards as first, since you'll want as many gems as possible to buy upgrades, but you'll likely collect all stars before finishing all quests, and since it costs 100 gems to skip a quest, when you're done with Story mode you should have more than enough money to skip all the quests you have left, unlocking this achievement once they're all cleared.

Open 10 treasure chests

Treasure chests appear in some levels between enemies, and you open them by successfully finishing a Hangman-style minigame. You'll be given the full alphabet and have a set number of guesses to figure out the word.

This will likely come naturally, since you'll be playing each stage a minimum of 4 times to get all the stars in it, and there are more than 3 stages with treasure chests.

I only ever failed at unlocking one treasure chest (aside from the ones I did on purpose) by using the following strategy: first, guess E, R, and T. If there are still large gaps of letters where vowels clearly need to be, guess A. If there are still gaps, guess O, I, and U, stopping whenever it looks like you've probably gotten all the vowels. Then move on to S, N, and L. Nine times out of ten this should give you enough letters to figure out the word. If not, you can use a Hangman solver to help out.

Open a treasure chest with no incorrect guesses

This one will come down to a lot of luck since the words are randomly generated. I personally did this twice naturally, using the same method described in "Open Sesame."

To help with this, use a Hangman solver and play stage 4, which is the first stage with a chest. When playing this stage, keep in mind that the word that opens the stage 4 chest is virtually always food-related. This will make it much easier to figure out, especially when looking through the list generated by the Hangman solver.

Finish a stage with full health

This will likely be one of the first achievements you unlock, especially if you're using a Scrabble solver. You are allowed to take damage, just as long as you finish the stage with full health.

If you want to get this out of the way easily, you can always get the last enemy down to low health, then use a health potion to refill your health completely, then defeat the last monster. Or, once you have your attack strength fully upgraded, replay stage 1 and spell a 6+ letter word and you'll defeat the only monster and unlock the achievement.

Reach max level with one book

Once you equip a book, you gain XP for that book by defeating monsters. There's a book that increases book XP, but don't waste gems and a book slot on it. Buy the books for increasing gems dropped by monsters and for increasing damage for 6+ letter words and you'll likely be using them throughout your playthrough, unlocking this achievement before you're even halfway done with Story mode.

Earn 120 stars

There are 120 normal (yellow) stars to be earned in story mode. Across the 40 stages, each stage has a star for beating it, a star for beating the time trial version, and a star for beating it with an added trait on each enemy. These are all very easy and straightforward as long as you continually buy upgrades as you progress and earn more gems.

I highly recommend earning all three stars on a stage before moving on to the next. This may seem tedious but it'll guarantee you have enough gems to buy more upgrades to make sure you're always ahead of the curve on all future stages, keeping it easy along the way. If you ever find yourself struggling, you can always replay earlier levels over and over to farm gems to buy more upgrades, potions, etc.

Take 10000 damage

This is cumulative across both game modes and will definitely unlock naturally while going for the rest of the achievements. Obviously buying defense upgrades will slow this down, but enemies in later stages will still do plenty of damage that you'll likely unlock this before finishing Story mode.

Earn 1000 book XP

See "Knowledge Is Power" achievement description.

Maxing out two books will earn you more than 1000 book XP, so as long as you keep two or more books equipped, you'll easily unlock this before finishing story mode.

Use 2500 vowels

This achievement is cumulative and is almost unavoidable while working toward the 2500 words for "Born To Spell" since each word you spell will likely have one or more vowels in it. No need to worry about this achievement as it'll unlock naturally along the way, likely even before finishing Story mode.

Fail to open 3 treasure chests

See "Open Sesame" achievement description. It's very possible this achievement won't unlock naturally while playing, especially if you're a good guesser and/or use a Hangman solver.

If you don't unlock this or want to get it out of the way, you can replay stage 4 over and over, purposely guessing letters such as Q, Z, X, V, Y, etc. This will use up all your guesses quickly. Repeat two more times to unlock the achievement.

Use 500 letters from the top row

This is another achievement that will come naturally well before finishing Story mode, and since you'll be spelling 2500 words for "Born To Spell," it's virtually unavoidable.

Earn 20 crystal stars

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114912-lo.jpgWalk Of Fame 70http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Earn 40 crystal stars

There are 40 stages in the game and each stage has one crystal (red) star that can only be attempted after completing the three yellow stars for that stage. The crystal stages are the toughest part of this game, so it's highly recommended to save them all for last, after you've gotten all 120 yellow stars and purchased all upgrades for health, attack, and defense. You should also upgrade potion capacity and go into each stage with full potions.

The crystal star stages are difficult because every enemy is an "elite" version (more health, stronger attack, better defense), and they each have a bonus effect applied to them, such as "only takes damage from 4-letter words" or "takes double damage from words that begin with a vowel."

That being said, some of them are pretty easy as long as you can spell long words. Some of them are more difficult when enemies only take damage from shorter words, since your damage is pretty limited and you'll have to make sure you have a lot of health and good defense to last long enough to spell that many words.

One other thing to take advantage of are crystal tiles. They appear randomly, and have different effects depending on the color. You get their effects by using them in a word. They can be stacked with the same color and with other colors at the same time. Here's what they do:

Blue - shield for 3 turns (reduces damage taken)

Red - increases damage by 30% for 3 turns

Purple - converts 50% of damage to health for 3 turns

Orange - recovers 15% health

Light Blue - all 4 of the above effects at the same time

So it's naturally in your best interest to use tiles as soon as they appear to get their benefits. That being said, use orange tiles to your advantage - if you have full health, save the orange crystal tile until you need it!

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114914-lo.jpgHonorary Bacon Bandit 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Spell the word BANDITS

Both of these achievements are unlocked by spelling the respective words in either game mode. Since there is a random element involved in getting the required letters, there is some luck involved. It's best to wait until you've got a few of the required letters on your board, and then purposely save them and use other letters until you've got all the ones you need.

If you don't unlock this during Story mode, it's much easier to attempt this in Endless mode since you don't have to worry about defeating all of the monsters and the stage ending.

Play 10 games of endless mode

All of these achievements can only be unlocked in Endless mode. In this mode, none of your upgrades, weapons, or books carry over from Story mode, so feel free to get these achievements out of the way whenever you like.

In Endless mode, you'll fight monster after monster, and after every 2-3 monsters you'll come to a treasure chest and a merchant. In Endless mode, monsters drop coins instead of gems. These coins are used to purchase items from the merchant. The merchant sells attack upgrade, defense upgrade, health potions, three potions that have the same effects as the blue, red, and purple crystal tiles but for one turn, and bacon, which increases your health by 15%. Each time you purchase any of these items though, the price goes up for the next time. That being said, the coins you collect during a playthrough of Endless mode don't carry over or save, so don't hold back. Spend those coins on whatever you can afford to keep yourself alive.

Also while playing Endless mode, make sure to take advantage of the crystal tiles (refer to the "Walk of Fame" achievement description for a list of their effects) whenever they appear. Monsters will increase in difficulty the more you defeat, so make sure to buy attack and defense upgrades as often as possible.

Even without a Scrabble solver, the crystal tiles plus the coins from monsters should be more than enough to keep you alive long enough to defeat 10 monsters in a single game and spell more than 60 words along the way. My best game was 26 monsters in one game with 126 words spelled, and that was after purposely killing myself because I had to go to work. So don't fret about those two achievements.

The rest of the achievements are cumulative, and you'll likely unlock them while playing 10 sessions of Endless mode for this achievement. The last of these achievements to unlock for me was spelling 750 words in Endless mode. If this is the case for you, continually start of games and just spam 3-letter words until you die, and then repeat over and over until you reach 750 words. It's a good idea to do this before grinding words towards the 2500 for "Born To Spell" since the 750 words you need in Endless mode count toward the 2500 you need for "Born To Spell."

How does the word unscrambler work?

You Change max length from 12 to 20, type in all the letters in the "enter letters" box, and hit enter, at the bottom of the page a list of words should appear, with the ones worth the most at the top (worth is based on scrabble tile values, so might not be exact)

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3723/114886-lo.jpgPrecision Striking 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

If you create a new game and start the first quest, the very first monster will have 60 health, and a three letter word consisting of only 1 dot letters will do 20 damage. So you only need to make three 3 letter words with 1 dot letters to kill it with exact damage. Finish the mission 5 times and you get the achievement :p
