Description:

Join the Crystal Gems on the ultimate quest! A mysterious new Gem has stolen a powerful weapon. Only Steven and his friends have what it takes to stop her. "Save the Light" is a unique RPG hybrid that combines real-time and turn-based combat.

Possible Missable:

Be aware that one achievement might possibly be missable. You will want to make sure you speak with Vidalia before leaving Beach City for the forest to initiate her painting side-quest. I actually don't know for sure if this can be missed, but just to be safe I'm including it. See "Work of Art" for more info.

Playthrough + All Endings:

Other than the one thing listed above, nothing else in the game can be missed. This makes for a fun, casual experience. Move through each section of the game at a normal pace and don't worry too much about figuring out every secret on your first pass through an area. As you upgrade your characters, new abilities will unlock which will be used to uncover new secrets. For instance, upgrading Garnet's weapon will allow her to punch through stronger metal items, such as the one near Yellowtail in the city. From the warp pad, you will be able to see which areas you have finished to 100% and what you're missing, so you can always return later to continue working on collectibles and secrets.

After beating the final boss, you will have a short conversation and your answers here determine which ending you get. There are three separate ending achievements, so you'll need to get one and after you'll be returned to just before the final boss. Go through the boss fight two more times for the other two ending achievements (and make sure you wear the CBF badge on one of the attempts), then you can finish up any exploring you have left if necessary to get 100% completion.

Jump through a big donut

The "Big Donut" store is the first building you see when you arrive in town. You can't jump to the roof right away through, so be sure to head north and do the first part of the story and get your dad added to the party. After that, return to the store, double jump to the top of the umbrella with Steven, then over to the roof, then through the middle of the donut to unlock the achievement. HERE is a picture of the location.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142315-lo.jpg Attack the Light 15:1gs:

Defeat 100 Light Constructs

Light Constructs are all the normal enemies you will fight during the story. You will fight well over 100 of these, and will unlock it during the Great North section of the game.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142316-lo.jpg Perfect Ten 25:1gs:

Perform 10 Perfect blocks in a row

A perfect block is when you press :1a: right as the star underneath your character turns purple when being attacked. The easiest way to get this is to kill all but one enemy in a battle, use all your turns to heal, and let it attack you over and over until you're successful. Any enemy will work, but I personally used the axe enemies in the forest. One of their attacks consists of throwing three axes in a row, which I found fairly easy to time, and it got things moving more quickly.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142317-lo.jpg Somebody's Perfect 25:1gs:

Perform 10 Perfect attacks in a row

A perfect attack is when you press :1a: right as the star underneath the enemy turns purple when you're attacking. Any normal attack with any character will function the same way, through I found Steven to be the easiest to time, and since his attack only costs one star point and he's fairly weak in the start of the game, you can use it more often to get this done quickly.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142318-lo.jpg Delivery Boy 25:1gs:

Complete all the Fish Stew Pizza deliveries

Fish Stew Pizza is located on the beach in town. You need to speak with the owner, then his daughter to accept this quest. You will need to make four deliveries in total to unlock the achievement. The first two are available right away, and the last two after beating the boss in Beach City Forest. The deliveries are as follows:

  • Suitcase Sam - Just north of the statues in the center of town.
  • Vidalia - All the way in the NW section of town, next to some rubble.
  • Onion - Found in multiple locations selling items as you adventure in the game. First found in the forest, north of the first green barrier.
  • Amethyst - This party member will join by the end of the forest section, depending on which Gem you chose to see on the beach in the beginning of the game. Talk to her while she's in your party.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142319-lo.jpg Work of Art 25:1gs:

Help Vidalia finish her masterpiece

Vidalia can be found in the NW section of town. She will be struggling to think of something to paint, and will take your suggestion. I don't believe it matters what you choose, but I selected Amethyst since that's what she does on the show. After beating the boss of The Great North, return to her and she will be done with the painting, which will unlock the achievement.

I think this achievement is missable, though I obviously did not test it. If you don't talk to her early in the game (for instance, waiting until free roam after beating the final boss) I'm unsure how the second part of the quest would be triggered where she actually finishes the painting. To be safe, talk to her in town ASAP.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142320-lo.jpg Future Boy Boltron 25:1gs:

Receive every fortune from BOLTRON: SON OF ZOLTRON

On the beach in town you will find an arcade, and this fortune teller machine. You will need coins, one of which you are given for free, and can purchase more for 25 units of money (I don't actually remember what these are called). There is no guarantee your fortune will be unique, and can even receive the same one multiple times in a row, so this could take a while. You will need to see the following fortunes to unlock the achievement:

  • Bad luck and extreme misfortune will haunt your pathetic soul for all eternity!
  • You're good looking on both the outside AND the inside.
  • There's good times ahead in your future -- at the Funland Arcade!
  • To tame the mighty lion, you must offer him a frozen treat!
  • It's dangerous to go alone.
  • In the very near future, you will receive a special prize!
  • Check the prize dispenser below me!

Once all seven different fortunes have been seen, the achievement will unlock. It took me a few dozen attempts to finally get the last one I needed.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142321-lo.jpg Boss Beater-Uppers 25:1gs:

Defeat any boss without letting any party members be defeated

This achievement isn't so bad to complete, especially against the first boss of the game in the forest. Bosses will have a large red health bar that covers the top of the screen, rather than just the small one underneath them like normal enemies or stronger enemies which have a yellow health bar underneath them.

For this boss, I made good use of Pearl's javelin attack, which will travel through the normal enemies feeding logs to the boss and hit him as well, which helps keep the screen clear and less damage coming your way. If possible, have her attack upgraded enough to unlock the +50% damage when attacking from behind perk by this point. Use cakes if you're getting a lot of damage (+50 health to all characters) or just the cat cookies, and make sure your dad is always using his AOE healing song. If someone dies, you can dashboard out of the game and reload to try again, or just move on with the story and try against the next boss.

The fight against the spiky boss in Strawberry Battleground is fairly easy as well. Simply have Greg use his star power song so you can quickly place a bunch of turrets with Peridot and constantly heal whoever he tries to corner with his flail. This fight took me all of two minutes with this method.

You can also fight the final boss as many times as you want, so this is not missable.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142322-lo.jpg Trifecta 25:1gs:

Defeat three enemies with a single attack

The easiest way to get this achievement is early on with Amethyst on the beach. Her whip attack will hit all enemies in a cone in front of her. Use normal attacks with Connie and Steven to lower the health of three enemies, then try to get a perfect whip attack to ensure you do enough damage to kill all of them at once. It might take a few attempts to get the health low enough on the enemies and her attack strong enough, but shouldn't be too much trouble.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142323-lo.jpg POW!!! 25:1gs:

Deliver over 100 damage with one ability

The easiest way to unlock this achievement is to find a very strong enemy that can be affected by Steven's shield bash attack and knock them off the fighting area. This will take away the remainder of their health, and if they have over 100, unlock the achievement.

The other way (and likely the way the game expects you to do it based on the achievement art) is using Garnet with her weapon fully upgraded. She will be a heavy hitter, and if you use a Redo Charm to reset her skill points and put everything into attack and luck, she should get a critical hit for over 100 in no time.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142324-lo.jpg Team Building Exercise 25:1gs:

Perform every fusion and team attack

Fusion and team attacks are performed by increasing the friendship meter of two characters during battle, which will then unlock a new ability to use, where the two characters will work together during a fight. To increase this meter, you need to encourage each other after perfect blocks, heal each other, or use the "Thoughtful Gift" item. In addition, the higher the "Friendship" skill, the quicker their relationship bars will increase, so don't ignore this stat when gaining levels and using skill points.

Once the meter at the top right of the screen is filled, you will notice a new ability appear on the wheel of the two corresponding characters. The fusion or attack can be initiated with either character, but will count for both no matter who starts it. You will need a set amount of star points to use the ability, so wait if necessary to begin it.

To track this, print the image below (taken from PSNProfiles) or save it to your computer and mark on it in Paint or whatever to track which ones you've done, rotating party members as necessary until all of them have been used at least once.

Recover every Lil' Light Steven

This is part of getting the 100% completion in the game. These are small clones of Steven made of clouds that will award extra experience when found (but only to the character who picks it up). They aren't hidden too well, though you can find some exploration tips in the "Perfect Porkchop" explanation.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142330-lo.jpg Crying Breakfast Friend 100:1gs:

Defeat any boss while wearing the CBF Badge

This badge is unlocked very late in the game, found in a secret room in the Forge. The badge cuts all your stats in half, and the only boss left at this point is the final boss Hessonite, so you may need to overlevel a bit to manage this. Level 22+ should be plenty with the right setup.

I personally used Peridot, Greg, and Pearl. Have Greg start by using his star power song, then make sure Peridot puts out an RPG (defense down) and two regular turrets, while Pearl puts four clones on the boss and uses her Fireball whenever possible. Use star fruit whenever the backpack is up so you can get all this setup quickly. During the first phase, you'll want to choose :1x:, :1x:, :1b: when prompted to get the second phase quickly. If you choose the wrong answers, you'll have to repeat that question. During the second phase, heal the Prism whenever Hessonite attacks it so she'll get a debuff (which stacks with the RPG), and she'll go down quickly. Use the same method as the first phase otherwise.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142331-lo.jpg Adventure is Out There 100:1gs:

Travel to every zone

This achievement will come on the way to getting 100% completion. Most zones you can simply walk through and enter the next, while others will require you find a key or secret area. See "Perfect Porkchop" for tips.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142332-lo.jpg Perfect Porkchop 100:1gs:

Complete the game to 100%

For this achievement, you will need to complete every quest, find every collectible, open every chest, and upgrade every weapon in the game. Each individual zone has a progress counter and shows exactly what is needed to find. You may find early in the game that a lot of the zones you can't complete, though once you get all the party members and upgrade a few weapons, you should be able to do the last few zones to 100% on the first pass. Try to remember areas you skipped and why (maybe even write down what the roadblock was) so that you'll have an easier time mopping up later.

For the most part, none of the hidden stuff is very hard, but here are some tips:

  • Check behind all trees, rocks, and waterfalls.
  • Always move to the edge of the screen to see if the camera moves, often new areas will be hiding off to the edges, or things you can grab with Amethyst's whip will be floating there.
  • Each character has an overworld ability used with :1x:; use Steven to roll through small areas or break small mounds, Connie and Pearl to break the crystals, Amethyst to grab far away items, Greg to solve the wall puzzles with his music, Garnet to break large metal objects, and Peridot to move metal boxes.
  • Green "Light Dew" orbs will grow trees to reach higher areas. You need four orbs to fully grow a tree, and may need to move to a new area to find more orbs before returning to finish growing the tree.
  • Purchase all badges from Onion each time you find him.
  • on Youtube has 100% videos that you can reference if you're unsure how to get past a certain puzzle or find a specific secret.

Quest List:

  • Glow Stick Hunt - Accept this from Sour Cream (south of the town square) and find 10 glow sticks in Beach City Woods, then return.
  • Pizza Cutter - Get the broken pizza cutter from Kiki (down the street from Vidalia), then fix it at Bismuth's Forge, and return.
  • Lion Licker Feast - Buy four Lion Licker Popsicles from the Big Donut shop, then feed them to Lion (near the lighthouse).
  • Pizza Delivery - See the "Delivery Boy" achievement.
  • What to Paint? - See the "Work of Art" achievement.
  • Saddie Needs Ice - Find a block of ice near the warp pad in the "Mount Manikchak" section of The Great North and bring it to Saddie in the Big Donut shop.
  • Message in a Bottle - Find the bottle in the ocean near Jamie in southern Beach City, then bring it to Yellowtail in northern Beach City.
  • Cool Sword - Find the sword in "The Crater" section of Strawberry Battlefield, then bring it to Ranaldo in the center of the town square of Beach City (he's selling the items at the table).

The achievement will unlock upon getting 100% in every zone and looking at the map from a warp pad.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4582/142329-lo.jpg Back in Bismuth 100:1gs:

Fully upgrade all weapons at The Forge

Bismuth's Forge is unlocked after completing the Forest area of the game. You will come here as part of the story and can return whenever you want. To upgrade a weapon, you will need both the schematic (which are found in chests and other hidden areas - you'll find them all when working toward 100% completion) as well as "Chroma" which is the resource required to actually perform the upgrade. You'll need a number of these from various colors, which are obtained sometimes from defeating enemies but mostly from colored crystals that you can break with Connie or Pearl's overworld abilities (these respawn after one real world hour and you can play offline and change your time to respawn them if needed).

Once you unlock the appropriate schematic and Chroma, return to the forge to upgrade a weapon. There are two upgrades for each character, and all the schematics will come on your way to 100% completion. See "Perfect Porkchop" for exploration tips.
