Introduction:

The Mooseman is a new 2D adventure game from Sometimes You. The game is based on Russian myths and lore, and the game is styled to reconstruct these myths. It has a very supernatural and surreal atmosphere to it. The gameplay mainly consists of moving right, and the main mechanic you have is a mask that lets you see beyond life into death, which makes stuff change or appear/disappear. It's a pretty simple game, and the achievements are mostly straightforward. There are a set of collectibles and many of them are hidden behind very obscure or odd puzzles. But with the help of a guide, you can complete this game in under 2 hours. Let's get started.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

While playing, there are only four miscellaneous achievements plus the collectibles, but collecting all of the collectibles will also unlock the miscellaneous achievements too, as each one results in you obtaining an artifact. So really all you need to do for this completion is use a guide to find all of the collectibles (you definitely won't find them all on your own). The "Sunset" achievement solution contains a video guide that will walk you through the whole game and collect all artifacts along the way.

Alternatively, you could play blind to enjoy the game and then use chapter select to mop up whatever collectibles you're missing. The actual progression in the game is relatively straightforward and doesn't need much explanation.

Upon completing the game with all collectibles, you'll have obtained all of the achievements and wrapped up this completion.

Conclusion:

The Mooseman is a very strange and surreal story of Russian mythology. It plays like a pretty straightforward side scrolling adventure game, but the areas and environments, as well as the art style, make a unique and interesting game to play. Many collectibles are hidden behind some very subtle puzzles, but with a guide you can complete this game in just over an hour. Hopefully you enjoyed the game along the way.

Solve the ice crystal riddle in the underworld

After entering the underworld you'll eventually cross a white bridge and then you'll find an area with ice crystals on the floor and ceiling. There are three in the foreground on the ground that will light up, and you need to activate them with your mask in the order they light up. Doing so will award you with an artifact and this achievement.

Grab a piece of shimmering sun

Story-related; cannot be missed.

This achievement unlocks upon solving the rotating face puzzle in the cave and then traveling through the snow and the desert. You'll then shoot an arrow up to the sun to get the flame, granting you the ability to use :1b: to light your staff.

Find all the artefacts among Mangonth's tusks

After obtaining the flame to light your staff with :1b:, you'll head right and see lots of constellations in the background. You'll eventually come to an area with lots of ramps and platforms, and swirling white enemies that try to run into you. There are around 5 or so collectibles in this area that you need to collect to unlock this achievement.

This will happen naturally while collecting all of the artifacts. Refer to the "Sunset" achievement solution for a video guide showing the locations of all artifacts.

Fight and defeat the spider of the Lower World

Story-related; cannot be missed.

At the end of the cave area you'll fight a giant spider. There are three switches on the ground, and all you have to do to defeat the spider is press the three in a specific order. Don't forget to continually keep your staff lit with :1b: to protect you from getting killed. The switch order is: left, right, middle. You'll have to use your mask to fade out the middle one to avoid pressing it too soon.

Escape the river god

Story-related; cannot be missed.

At the end of the underwater area you'll come to an area where a big fish is swimming above you and shining a light down trying to find you. This part can be quite a pain, because you'll think you're hidden but if a sliver of light can go between branches, he'll eat you. You'll have to use your mask to rotate branches to block his view of you. Some parts require you to be patient, while other parts require you to keep moving. Thankfully it's a relatively short section, but dying means you have to start from the beginning of the section. Keep at it and you'll eventually get past him. As soon as he gives up and swims away the achievement will unlock.

Solve the riddle of Vorsa's sanctuary

Right after escaping from the river god and entering the forest area, you'll come to three wooden posts with eyes. They will light up in a specific order, and you need to activate them in that order. From left to right, the pattern is 1, 2, then 1, 2, 3, and then 1, 2, 3, 1. This will award you an artifact and the achievement.

Enter the world of men

Story-related; cannot be missed.

After escaping from the river god, you'll go through a very simple and straightforward forest area. At the end you'll fight against some wind and hear some tribal singing. At the end of this area this achievement will unlock.

Refer to the "Sunset" achievement solution for a video walkthrough of the whole game.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/5337/153287-lo.jpg Healer 65:1gs:

Outsmart Yoma the Witch

Story-related; cannot be missed.

Shortly after progressing through the world of men, you'll come to 7 tall white statues holding spears. As you progress right, you'll enter a small house with a big vulture-looking witch creature. Press :1b: to light your staff and she'll follow you. Lead her left to the statues and once she gets close enough the end one will stab her and kill her, unlocking the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/5337/153288-lo.jpg Upper World 40:1gs:

Enter the world of gods and ancestors

Story-related; cannot be missed.

At the end of the middle world you'll come to 7 large wooden posts with eyes. They will light up and show you the order they must be activated in. Use your staff and mask to activate them in the correct order and then a bird will land. Hop on its back and this achievement will unlock.

Survive the chase by Voipel

Story-related; cannot be missed.

In the upper world on the bird's back, you'll eventually be chased by a large god with a bird on its head. This is a very simple chase sequence: stay right of center to avoid the arms of the god when it swings at you, and keep an eye out for redness, as that indicates where the black clouds will enter the screen. So simply dodge up and down until the sequence ends, at which point this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/5337/153290-lo.jpg Sunset 90:1gs:

Return to the gates of the Lower World

Story-related; cannot be missed.

This achievement unlocks upon completing the game. Most of the game is pretty straightforward and just involves you walking right, but there are some puzzles you'll have to solve along the way.

A full video guide of the game and all collectibles is provided below courtesy of user Baddriver. You can follow along with it to obtain all collectibles or use it if you get stuck.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/5337/153291-lo.jpg Archaeologist 100:1gs:

Collect all artefacts

There are a total of 52 artifacts to collect in the game, and which ones you have can be checked by pressing :1lb: at any time. Some of the collectibles are story related, many are hidden just off the main path, and a bunch are obtained by inputting specific button sequences in specific areas. It's these latter ones that will be extremely difficult to find without a guide.

The video walkthrough in the "Sunset" achievement solution includes all collectibles. I highly recommend following it because you will assuredly miss some without it. If you do miss any, you can use chapter select after you complete the game to go back and get whatever you missed.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/5337/153279-lo.jpg Cows of Vakul 80:1gs:

Secret achievement

Very early in the beginning of the game you'll cross a white bridge over some water. Toward the right side of it you'll see a fish jumping up out of the water. Stand over the fish and press :1a: to turn your mask off. You'll fall down through the water into a secret area with a cow. There is an artifact here, and entering this area unlocks the achievement.
