Introduction:

"Egypt, the 1930's. Erased from ancient history and buried in a nameless tomb for 4,000 years, Seteki the Witch Queen has risen once again. Only one troop of daring heroes can stand against the fearsome power of Seteki and her army of mummified monstrosities: The Strange Brigade! Explore remarkable ruins, solve perilous puzzles and uncover tantalizing treasure while blasting your way through an array of undead enemies in thrilling third-person action that’s certain to bring out your inner adventurer!" - from strangebrigade.com

Welcome to Strange Brigade, a basic third-person shooter from the developers of the Sniper Elite series. There are three modes included; campaign, Horde and Score Attack, all of which are pretty straightforward.

For campaign, it features 8 missions, playable either solo or online in 2-4 player co-op, each with numerous objectives, puzzles and collectibles. Horde is your basic wave-based survival mode where you have to fend off waves of the undead. Finally, Score Attack is a time-based challenge mode where you try to get as many points as possible in the time allotted.

Most of the achievements in the game are related to the campaign and every achievement can be earned in solo or co-op with the exception of four co-op specific achievements: "Nobody Likes a Show-Off", "Everybody needs a hobby", "I'm stuck with a valuable friend" and "Now That's Just Not Cricket".

Campaign:

There are no difficulty-related achievements so feel free to play on whatever difficulty you want. The campaign consists of 8 levels and can be done either solo or online in 2-4 player co-op. If playing co-op, all players will get the progression achievements. Everything else is specifically unlocked for the player who performs the action.

There are many single-action and cumulative achievements and you will probably unlock most of them with little to no effort if you know what the achievements are. The only ones you really have to go out of your way for are the collectibles, unlocking all of the weapons and obtaining all amulets and gems. You're more than likely have to replay some levels to collect enough gold to unlock all of the weapons as during normal play you only get about half of what you need.

As noted in the Introduction, four achievements require a co-op partner, so if you need a hand, feel free to post in the Official XBA Friend and Co-op Finder thread.

For any other achievements you may have missed during your campaign playthrough, refer to the Mop Up section of this roadmap.

Collectibles:

There are four types of collectibles, 198 in total, 16 of which are found randomly throughout the campaign. Collecting all of the Relics unlocks skill points to use to upgrade your characters' amulets. The other three types are in the game just to collect and serve no other purpose. Once you've collected everything, you’ll unlock "Hooked on a Feline", "When is a door not a door?", "To preserve the past is to save the future" and "Purloined Letters".

Horde:

Horde is your basic wave-based survival mode. Horde can be played solo or with partners. There are three achievements specifically related to Horde worth 45:1gs:; "Pay the Piper", "Evasive Action" and "Back From the Mouth of Hell".

Score Attack:

Good news! Playing Score Attack is not a requirement for any of the achievements!

Mop Up:

If you've missed any collectibles or need to mop up any achievements, now is the time to do it. You will probably have to farm for gems, letters found in chests and/or gold to purchase all the weapons. There also might be a few others to unlock, such as chaining amulet attacks, dying 50 times, or even spending time with low health. Most of the cumulative achievements such as killing enemies, destroying pots or meleeing might have unlocked without effort during your playthroughs.

Conclusion:

Strange Brigade is an enjoyable adventure game, especially if you play it in co-op. Collectibles, as always, are a bit tedious with some hidden quite well. Overall, every achievement is attainable without too much trouble and there aren't many that are grindy. Congratulations on your 1000:1gs:!

Complete the Main Diary Collection

There are 8 levels in the game and each has:

  • 6 Relics (48 total)
  • 4 Canopic Jars (32 total)
  • 6 Blue Cat Idols (48 total)
  • 1 Golden Cat Idol (door appears after all 6 cats in a level are destroyed) (8 total)
  • 5-7 Letters per level (42 total)
  • 16 Letters randomly found in chests

In total, there are 198 collectibles. When you pick up a collectible, it is saved immediately. Note that if playing in co-op, while the Relics and Cats are shared between all players (only one person in the party needs to obtain them), the Jars and Letters have to be found individually.

In order to obtain the 16 random letters, you need to open as many chests as possible throughout the campaign. They are randomly placed in them along with gems and gold. If you are playing co-op, you will likely not find many of them and will have to farm this solo for the remainder. The method outlined in "Master of the Mystical" is probably the easiest way to collect them.

Unlock all the weapons

To unlock this achievement, you need to purchase all Primary weapons, Sidearm weapons and Explosive Items. In total, this will cost you approximately 270,000 gold.

Gold is obtained in many ways; collecting it from dead enemies, opening chests, locating relics and discovering it in the environment. Any gold you obtain is only saved once you’ve completed that level. In Horde, gold is saved after each wave.

As there is no easy way to farm gold, so you must replay the campaign or Horde many times over to accumulate enough gold to buy everything.

Note: Any weapons that are included in DLC packs do not count towards this achievement.

Unlock/Find every kind of Amulet and Gem

There are four amulets per character. The first one for each is already unlocked so you need to purchase the remaining three with skill points. You earn skill points by completing a set of "ravishing relics". There are 12 sets of relics (four in each set), so if you find all 48 relics during your campaign playthrough you will unlock all the skill points necessary to purchase all amulets for all four characters.

Gems are found randomly in chests. There are 9 different gems and are used to upgrade your primary weapon with different abilities. Even if you use, destroy or sell a gem after it is acquired, it still counts as found. Chests are found in both campaign and Horde.

There is a way to farm gems. In order for the gems to save, you must reach the next checkpoint. In Mission 1, 'Harbin’s Dig Site', you have an opportunity to find two gems before the first checkpoint. Start the level and run to the first chest which is down the winding pathway past the two tents. It takes about 30 seconds to get there. Shoot the pot to burn the vines to find the chest. If you don’t find a gem, you can restart the level. If you do find a gem, continue on across the bridge and enter the cave (there are enemies in here). As you emerge on the other side, pass under two arches and on the left is the second chest. Check to see if there is a gem in this chest then proceed to walk under the third arch to initiate a checkpoint then restart the level (if you so choose).

  • Montu's Brutal Gem: The blessings of the war god are with you. Deal increased damage to your foes!
  • Sekhmet's Healing Gem: Sekhmet's thirst for blood consumes your weapon, healing you with every kill!
  • Skull Breaker Gem: Bring the hammer down upon the skulls of your enemies. Extra damage on headshots.
  • Bennu's Sun Fire Gem: Set your enemies ablaze with the fury of the sun bird!
  • Anubis's Gem of Armourbane: The god of the dead makes your shots break through the armor of your chosen targets.
  • Neith's Stabilising Gem: The god of hunting lays his hands upon you and reduces your weapon's recoil.
  • Bast's Rebound Gem: The cat goddess makes your shots ricochet among your enemies, causing extra injuries!
  • Quibei's Ice Gale Gem: Freeze your enemies in their path, making them an easier target!
  • Quickfire Gem: The fates guide your hands. You fire and reload your weapon with greater speed.

Chain 3 Amulet Attacks in a row

This must be done in co-op and can be done in any game mode.

To unlock this, you must activate your amulet three times in a row, and to do this, you cannot fire any weapon, throw any explosive or die.

As your partner(s) is decimating the enemy horde, hold :1rt: to collect their lost souls. When your amulet is full, press :1b: to unleash its power upon the undead ranks (even if you don't kill an enemy with it, it still counts). With it drained, and without using a weapon or explosive, hold :1rt: once again to collect the souls of dead enemies. Repeat this procedure twice more to unlock the achievement. Repeat this for the other person(s) in your group.

Banish Ammit and defeat Seteki without delivering the Coup de Grace

This is story related and cannot be missed.

In the final mission, 'Afterlife', work your way through the level until you encounter Ammit. After enraging him (by shooting him in his mouth), he blows a hole in the wall. Enter this hole and be teleported to a battle with the evil witch queen Seteki. After defeating Seteki you will be teleported back to Ammit.

Repeat this once more. After you defeat Seteki a second time, she is grabbed by Ammit. Ammit tries to swallow her but she is hanging on for her life by his teeth inside of a yellow circle. You must make a choice here: shoot Seteki or not.

For this achievement, do not shoot Seteki and allow Ammit to swallow her, unlocking the achievement.

During the cutscene that follows, press :1menu: and restart the checkpoint. You will need to go through the second battle with Seteki again, but when it comes time to make a choice, choose the opposite (in this case, shoot Seteki) to unlock "Smile, you Son of a B...".

This is cumulative over all game modes. You melee by pressing :1rb:. Depending on your character, you will either kick or punch them. You do not have to finish them off while they are lying on the ground; you only have to melee them once to knock them to the ground. Once you have meleed 100 enemies, the achievement will unlock.

Note that you must complete the level in order for your gold to save. However, if you find gold in a chest that brings you over the 10,000 threshold mid-level, the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4596/157070-lo.jpg The Pharoah's Curse 15:1gs:

Die 50 times

This is cumulative over all game modes. This will probably be one of the last achievements unlocked unless you are playing on harder difficulties.

Solo: Die in any way possible by taking damage from enemies, traps or the environment. If you are carrying a health potion, you can revive yourself quickly. If not, you must wait for the checkpoint to restart then repeat until the achievement unlocks.

Co-op: The quickest method is probably using traps to get killed then have your partner revive you. In Mission 1, 'Harbin’s Dig Site', there is a sarcophagus close to a spinning blades trap early on in the level. Stand in the radius of the trap and have your partner (or yourself) activate it. If it kills you (if you are already injured it should), you will be transferred to a nearby sarcophagus. Have your partner revive you and repeat (and they will earn progress towards "Everybody needs a hobby"). Once the achievement unlocks, repeat this for the other person(s) in your group.

Below is a sample of the co-op method:

Drink 6 health potions within a level without dying or restarting

This can be unlocked as early as Mission 1, 'Harbin's Dig Site'. This must be done within one level.

As you make your way through the level, you may find a red health potion bottle here and there. Be sure to pick them up as needed, but you can only hold one at a time. When you reach the final sarcophagus room, as you kill enemies, they drop health potions. Pick up any remaining potions and drink them to unlock this achievement.

This also can be done in Horde. Note that when you pick up a health potion, it will eventually respawn but may take several waves to do so. Hopefully you can survive that long.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4596/157073-lo.jpg This Is Becoming A Little Awkward 15:1gs:

Exit a Sarcophagus 5 times without restarting

This can be done in any game mode.

Solo: Make sure that you have a health potion on hand. When you are downed, you are transferred to a sarcophagus. Use your potion (:1up:) to release yourself. Repeat four more times. Note, if you do not have a health potion and are in the campaign, you will restart the checkpoint instead and will have to start over again. In Horde and Score Attack, the game will end.

Co-op: This can either be done by using a health potion (like the solo method) or by being rescued by a teammate. If being rescued, they will earn progress towards "Everybody needs a hobby". Refer to the video in "The Pharoah's Curse" for the co-op method if needed.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4596/157074-lo.jpg Hydra's Teeth 15:1gs:

Kill 100 skeletons

This is cumulative and will come naturally over the course of playing through the campaign, Horde and Score Attack. There are several variations of skeletons (regular, armored, armored with purple hearts), but all count towards the achievement.

During the campaign, skeletons first appear about halfway through Mission 3, 'Tunnels of Wadjet'.

In Horde, skeletons appear in wave 10. Starting with this wave, there are well over 100 if you continue playing through wave 15, so even if you are playing co-op, you are almost guaranteed to unlock this playing Horde.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4596/157075-lo.jpg The trick is not minding that it hurts 15:1gs:

Spend a total of 20 minute at the low health level

This is cumulative and will probably come naturally over the course of playing through the campaign, Horde and Score Attack. Low health means you need to be in the red portion of your health meter for 20 combined minutes. The game is very liberal with letting you survive, even at low health, so if you're careful as you eliminate enemies, you can remain at low health for a very long time. Just remember that health potions restore your health, so it is recommended that you don’t use one unless you absolutely need to.

To see how long you've been at low health, select 'Extras' > 'Career Stats' from the main menu.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4596/157076-lo.jpg There's no 'I' in Team…but there is a 'me' 15:1gs:

Complete a level with each of the first four Brigade members

There are four starting characters in this game:

  • Professor Archimedes de Quincy
  • Frank Fairburne
  • Nalangu Rushida
  • Gracie Braithwaite

Whether you are playing solo or co-op, when you complete a level, you have the option to either continue or return to the menu. To switch your character, you need to return to the menu. At the menu, switch to a character you have not played as yet then continue on with the campaign. Once you've played a level with each of the four starting characters, the achievement will unlock.

If you accidentally continue without returning to the menu, you need to wait until the level starts to quit.

If you are playing co-op, coordinate with your partner to ensure that you play as each character.

Solve every kind of puzzle door across the game.

There are approximately 10 different types of puzzles in the game. There might be one or two others not listed below that are required. None are too difficult, but for some of the door puzzles where you have to use the correct symbols to open the door, you might be required to search the nearby environment for the answer.

  • Door Symbols - Shoot symbols in sequence. Sometimes the symbols are located around the environment. You have three chances to get this right.
  • Glowing Orbs - Locate orbs in the environment and shoot them to open a door.
  • Snake Wall Puzzle - Rotate pipes to connect them from head to tail.
  • Floor Symbols - Walk on pressure plates to match the order of symbols on the wall.
  • Numerical Puzzle (Trial of the Scarabs) - Shoot glowing orbs in sequence order (one glowing orb, two glowing orbs, etc.)
  • Timey Trial Puzzle - Standing on a blue circle and shooting a blue orb will start a countdown. Locate the next blue circle and shoot the orb to extend time.
  • Triangle Symbols - Locate symbols nearby and match them on a triangle door. You have three chances to get this right.
  • Energy Beams - Activate blue beams and aim them at other gems to extend the beam and finally open a door.
  • Perplexing Puzzle - Standing on a blue circle, shoot the blue orbs to match the symbols to those on the statues above.
  • Circular Image Puzzle - There are 9 tiles that form an image. Shoot the tiles to complete the image.

Note that for certain puzzles, you only have three chances to complete it correctly. If you fail, you will need to restart the checkpoint. If you are obtaining all of the collectibles, this achievement will unlock during Mission 7, ‘The Forsaken City’.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/4596/157078-lo.jpg Capital shot! 15:1gs:

Kill 3 enemies with a single shot

This can be done in any game mode. For this to unlock, you must be using a weapon that has a scatter shot, such as the Leamington Model 14, Eastleigh Express or AB Woolf Slamfire shotguns. Probably the best weapon, if you are lucky enough to find it in a special weapons chest (for a small cost), is the Blunderbuss or the Krakatoa.

A good strategy is to keep running around a group of weaker enemies to filter them into a line or a bunch, then proceed to fire your shotgun into the crowd. With any luck, you'll kill more than three enemies with one shot. There are many opportunities to get this, especially in earlier levels of the campaign or the beginning waves of Horde.

Annoy the Narrator

You can unlock this achievement when you first start the campaign. Once you're in the level, simply lay the controller down and stand still. You can’t even move the camera around.

After roughly 25 seconds, the narrator says, "Taking a break? There is a pause button, you know." After another 10 seconds, he says, "Helloooo? Strange Brigade? Are you there?" 10 seconds later he says, "Fine, stand there. See if I care. You shant get anything from me. We'll soon see who breaks first." Once he says that, you are free to move. The narrator will then say, "Ah ha! There you go, back to the action. Go on, take this, just to show there's no hard feelings" and the achievement will unlock.

This can be done in any game mode. To unlock this, you must melee (:1rb:) five enemies to the ground then press :1rb: again on each of them to "finish them off", all within 30 seconds. This is rather easy when you’re overwhelmed by weaker enemies.

There is a foolproof way to get this at the beginning of Mission 7, 'Forsaken City'. There are five enemies already on the ground and you just have to press :1rb:.

Complete the First Round in Horde

This is a Horde-only achievement.

It is best to do this with a co-op partner as surviving until Wave 15 solo will be very difficult. One round of Horde consists of 15 waves. Horde is a basic mode where you encounter waves of enemies and the object is to kill them quickly and efficiently. Each wave gets increasingly difficult but most enemies move slowly so you can simply run around them to gather them in a group. It is suggested that you use a shotgun in this mode because it does more damage than any other weapon and can kill multiple enemies with one shot, provided you're accurate with it.

It is recommended that you use a character whose amulet hits multiple enemies instead of one, such as Professor Archimedes de Quincy or Nalangu Rushida. In the earlier waves, a good strategy is to run around to gather up enemies then throw a grenade to kill a bunch of them. Collect their souls and you should be close to having your amulet fully charged. Continue killing and once your amulet is charged, unleash it. By this time, your grenade should have respawned, so repeat the process. This is an oversimplified strategy and might not work for everyone. Plus, as you progress, enemies become faster and more powerful so you may need to adjust your strategy.

There is no one real strategy to surviving Horde. Just keep playing and if you find something that works for you, keep using it!

You can also unlock this if you enter a Horde game in the later waves and survive through Wave 15.

Get to Horde Wave 4 without taking any damage

This is a Horde-only achievement.

It is best to do this with a co-op partner as surviving solo and not taking any damage until Wave 4 will be very difficult. Refer to "Back From the Mouth of Hell" for a strategy to use on the earlier waves.

To do this in co-op, you must select 'Multiplayer' after choosing the game mode. This will allow others to join your game. Have one player start a Horde game and advance until there are only a couple of enemies left in Wave 3. Either invite your co-op partner or have them join and once the last enemies are defeated, the achievement should unlock for the person who just joined. Open a Gold Door in Horde

This is a Horde-only achievement.

In each Horde map, there are doors that require gold to open. They are identified with a hand beckoning you. Each map has a different gold requirement. Simply obtain enough gold, open the door and the achievement will unlock.

The cheapest door is on the map 'Palace' at only 2,500 gold. Other maps, including 'Excavation' and 'Village', require much more.

Rescue a teammate from a sarcophagus 10 times

This must be done in co-op in any game mode.

This is cumulative over all game modes. When playing co-op, if you or a partner gets downed, they are transferred to a sarcophagus where they wait for someone to rescue them. When this happens to your partner, locate the sarcophagus and hold :1x: to release them. Do this 10 times to unlock the achievement.

Refer to the video in "The Pharoah's Curse" if needed.

Collect double the Gold of each of your teammates

This must be done in co-op in any game mode.

This is easiest to do in Horde and can be done on Wave 1. With a co-op partner, start a game of Horde. Have your partner kill one or two enemies to accumulate a small amount of gold then get downed. In the meantime, kill enemies yourself to collect more than double the gold your partner collected (communicate with them to make sure) then get downed yourself. When the timer runs out for both players, the game will end and, provided you collected at least double the gold, the achievement will unlock. Repeat this for the other person(s) in your group.

Kill a teammate with any kind of trap

This must be done in co-op in any game mode.

When you come across a trap that you have to trigger, whether it's swinging axes, rotating blades or spiked/flamed floors, have a co-op partner stand within its radius and activate it. If your partner dies from its effects, the achievement will unlock. Repeat this for the other person(s) in your group.

Open the Sarcophagus Room in Harbin's Dig Site

This is story related and cannot be missed. Towards the end of Mission 1, 'Harbin's Dig Site', you will be tasked with completing a floor puzzle. Once you’ve successfully completed the puzzle and unlocked the door leading to the Sarcophagus Room, the achievement will unlock.

Defeat The Champion in Hidden Valley

This is story related and cannot be missed.

This takes place at the end of Mission 2, 'Hidden Valley'. The object of this achievement is to destroy the Soul Cage and is done over three phases. Each phase ends when a new powerful enemy is defeated. At that point, you need to shoot the Soul Cage to deplete its power. After doing this three times, walk up to it and hold :1rt: to drain it. When the cutscene starts, the achievement will unlock.

You will also unlock "Save Our Souls" for destroying your first soul cage.

Complete the Beam Puzzle in Tunnels of Wadjet

This is story related and cannot be missed.

Towards the end of Mission 3, 'Tunnels of Wadjet', you discover Wadjet's Inner Chamber and need to solve a puzzle to unlock a door to advance. You are required to activate a beam and direct it towards a blue gem which reflects the beam again. You in turn need to direct that beam to another gem and so one. Once you've directed the beam to the door, it will open and the achievement will unlock.

Defeat the Guardian in The Towering Temple

This is story related and cannot be missed.

At the end of Mission 4, 'The Towering Temple', you are teleported to the final arena where you battle waves of enemies and the Guardian boss. Shooting its armor away reveals a glowing blue orb on its chest. To do damage to the Guardian, you need to shoot the blue orb. After you damage it enough, it teleports out of the arena and shoots an energy beam from afar. Eventually it teleports back into the arena where you can do more damage to it. These steps will repeat until you've defeated the Guardian.

Solve the Maze and open the door in Cutthroat Caverns

During Mission 6, 'Cutthroat Caverns', progress through the level and you will come across a door with a blue torch by its side flanked by two tall Egyptian statues. Hold X to pull the torch and the door will open, revealing another room and a maze.

The maze isn't all that difficult to solve. Beware of the traps and enemies as you find your way to the other side. It's easy to get turned around as you're fighting so if you need to, back track to a passage that looks familiar then continue. At the end, you'll climb a couple of flights of steps and emerge into an area overlooking the entire maze. To your left is a door with a blue torch next to it. Pull on the torch to open the door and the achievement will unlock.

Kill the Hammer Champion in Cursed Village

This is story related and cannot be missed.

At the end of Mission 5, 'Cursed Village', you make your way to an area called the Courtyard of Champions. A short cutscene focuses on a giant hammer in the middle of the courtyard then a lumbering beast with a ball and chain picking it up. Behold, Seteki's Grand Champion!

There are three stages to defeating the champion. For each one, you need to shoot the glowing blue orb on its body. Stage one is on its chest, stage two is on its back and stage three is on its head. As you are shooting the champion, waves of enemies will be attacking you. When you finally defeat the champion, it will destroy the Soul Cage and disappear, unlocking the achievement.

Open the Hidden Relic Room in Forsaken City

During Mission 7, 'The Forsaken City', you come across a marketplace area. After opening a door by shooting a blue orb, enter the market and stand in the blue circle. There are three blue orbs to shoot. Standing with the open 'storefront' in front of you, the first blue orb is at your 11 o'clock (directly in front of you and to the left). The next blue orb is at your 3-4 o'clock (turn right about 90-100 degrees from your starting position, out of the side door you used to enter the market). The third blue orb is at your 12 o'clock (directly in front of you) and up a bit.

Once you've shot all three, a secret door will open in front of you and the achievement will unlock.

Activate the Death Ray in the Great Pyramid level

This is story related and cannot be missed.

During Mission 8, 'Great Pyramid', one of your objectives is to get to the other side of the colossi (the two giant statues). Find the scarab key for the first door and make your way to the top of the statues. Work your way down the other side and you will be in another area where you must locate another scarab key. This is where you want to be.

There is a blue shard in the middle of this area. Hold :1rt: to destroy it and it will give you access to a beam turret. Charge it up and aim the beam at the other end of the area at another turret. Go to that turret and aim the beam at the chest of the statue on the right. You will see a short cutscene that has a blue orb being lit up on the statue’s chest. When you have control of your character, shoot this blue orb and beams will shoot from the statue’s eyes and destroy any enemies on the ground. Once that is done, the achievement will unlock.
