Introduction:

Welcome to A Winter's Daydream, a strange visual novel by Sometimes You. Visual novels have been a longstanding staple of video games in Japan, with many released for the Xbox 360. A Winter's Daydream brings this unique genre in gaming history to the rest of the world.

 

You play as Yuu, a 19-year-old who moved to the city to become a student and to get away from his overbearing sister. With the New Year approaching, Yuu decides to travel back to his hometown to celebrate with his family. Almost immediately he realizes his mistake as he and his sister immediately refuse to get along, so he decides to leave.

 

Instead of going back home, he travels to a small village to reunite with his grandmother. One night, your grandmother notices a shooting star, so she suggests you both make a wish. What happens next, you’ll have to find out for yourself...

 

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

A Winter's Daydream couldn't get any simpler. To unlock the full 1000:1gs:, all you need to do is continually press for roughly 30 minutes, depending on how fast you do it. The game is all dialogue with no branching choices, so it’s just a matter of going through the text as fast as possible. Alternately, you can let the game play without any input which takes just over 3 hours.

 

First, go into the Options menu on the title screen and change 'Narration Style' to 'Word by Word'. This will flash words on the screen instead of letters. Next, change the 'Text Speed' to '200' (move the slider all the way to the right). Words will appear at a faster rate on the screen.

 

Return to the main menu and start the game. Keep pressing until you've unlocked all the achievements!

 

Optionally, if you wish to play the game without any input, also change 'Auto Play' to 'On'. Remember that you must plug in your controller (if using wireless) when playing this way or else when the controller turns off the game will pause.

 

However, if you wish to read everything, the game should take you approximately 4 hours to complete, depending on your reading speed.

 

Conclusion:

A Winter's Daydream may not be the quickest 100% you’ll get but it’s probably the easiest as there is no effort on your part to unlock the full 1000:1gs:, aside from your hand possibly cramping up. Congratulations!

This is story related and cannot be missed. To unlock all the achievements, all you need to do is read through the game in its entirety. There are no branching dialogue choices or any movements you need to make, so just sit back and read through each screen and press to continue. This will take approximately 4 hours, depending on how fast you read.

 

Alternately, there are two other ways to complete the game:

• The first (and most popular) method is to change a couple of game settings so you can breeze through the game in about 30 minutes by continually pressing .
  
• The second method is to change an additional setting but let the game play itself without any input. This takes just over 3 hours and allows you to start the game and walk away, run some errands, or take a nap, then come back and you will have 1000:1gs: without doing anything.
  

For Method 1, in the Options menu on the title screen, change 'Narration Style' to 'Word by Word' then change the 'Text Speed' to '200'. That is all you need to do to set the game up to continually press for 30 minutes. For Method 2, also change 'Auto Play' to 'On'. Remember that you must plug in your controller (if using wireless) when playing this way or else when the controller turns off the game will pause.
