Introduction:

Get in, loser. Welcome to Zombieland Double Tap: Road Trip, a twin-stick co-op shooter published by GameMill Entertainment and developed by High Voltage Software. Scavenge the wasteland as Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita and Little Rock as they make a road trip all the way to the White House as they're running independently, helping old ladies cross the street, using public bathrooms and, of course, hunting down those delicious Twinkies. So, saddle up, stick to the rules, and nut up!

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

All of the levels are easy peasy with the exception of Mission 9 and Mission 10, especially with a co-op buddy or idle controller to help boost for more points, due to the horde numbers you must get through to finish the levels. There is also a difficulty spike when playing in co-op mode. Do not take on a horde with a melee weapon with a low Weapon Damage perk. Use melee weapons early on in the level so that mid-to-long range weapons will be able to be picked up last. Use shotguns on a horde that is grouped together and Porta-Potties. Miniguns are another excellent weapon for destroying nest points quick but due to their long reload time, movement speed will come into play. Make good use of the grenades as well, toss them into the fray to make quick work of the nests. When playing a level with a handful of nest points, destroy them immediately - this way, you won't get overwhelmed by zombies that take a bunch of bullets to put down like Swatters and Big Hosses. When it comes to Swatters, go around them to attack from behind, their weak spot, otherwise, you'll just be wasting precious ammo on their shields.

Be careful when the level ends with the group doing their diolgue and you're low on health; the horde can actually kill you and you'd have to restart the level all over again. When picking up the same weapon you already have equipped, it does not replenish your ammo, it just swaps out the weapon with its max ammo, placing the one you had equipped back in the box/trunk. Finish the objective as soon as possible, you will not be missing out on anything other than collecting Twinkies which will come naturally if you're browsing every corner of the current level.

Max out movement speed first. Yes, movement speed can get you out of a jam if the horde has you trapped in a dead-end street or corner. Then work on health, weapon damage, super special and lastly weapon ammo. Use weapon damage boost, if available, which comes in a form of a red cola bottle to destroy nests quickly with sheer fire power. Using melee weapons on nests do quick work of them as well. You will only be able to upgrade the skill points after you've finished that current level. I highly recommend starting on Wichita as her super special, Wichita Hustle, will deploy a decoy the horde will rush to attack and explode, killing any zombie near it, as you make a getaway looking for a new weapon or taking out a nest.

Mop-Up:

By the time you've finished the main levels, you can go back and finish off the side missions and continue to grind side mission 7 for those skill points left to fully max out your character(s).

Conclusion:

As for top-down co-op shooters go, Zombieland: Double Tap Roadtrip is an okay game, but don't expect Game of the Year awards for it. It's a great companion piece to the movie as it does capture its humor and absurdity. Gameplay-wise, you can easily speed-run through every level and not miss anything. 1K'ing the game should be a breeze other than griding out those skill points.

180077-lo.jpg Fully Loaded 50:1gs:

Beat a level with 4 players, each playing a main character

The main characters are Wichita, Tallahassee, Little Rock and Columbus. Unfortunately, there is no online co-op so you must have 4 controllers to get this one. The first mission, Learn Your Rules, is the shortest level and can be handled solo. Log in with a guest account on the second, third and fouth controllers. Now, move them up until Rule #7: Travel Light, and let the zombies down them after that. DO NOT REVIVE THEM. Finish the level on your own. Please see "For Your Consideration" for additional information on this method.

180078-lo.jpg Walk in the Park 20:1gs:

Beat the first level

Story-related; unmissable

The first level is Mission 1: Learn Your Rules (California). In the first section you'll have to collect 2 key to progress forward. When you are introduced to the Clown zombie, you'll have to start up 4 carnival rides by holding :1rb: to get them going. Once the last ride is activated, the level will end.

180079-lo.jpg Wild Deuce 25:1gs:

Beat the second level

Story-related; unmissable

The second level is Mission 2: Drop the Kids Off (Nevada). Columbus has to use the bathroom, but the Porta-Potties are infested with zombies, so you must destroy them. After collecting a couple of keys, the last task will be to defend the bathroom. After entering the bathroom, the level will end.

180080-lo.jpg Coupon Clipper 30:1gs:

Beat the third level

Story-related; unmissable

Mission 3: Bargain Hunting (Utah) will take place in a grocery store as you hunt down food and supplies. At the end of the level, you'll have to defeat the T800s that spawn here. Once you pick up the supplies, the level will end.

180081-lo.jpg Well Done 35:1gs:

Beat the fourth level

Story-related; unmissable

Mission 4: Old People (Colorado) will have you do an escort mission for Granny as she wants to leave a note on a car then afterwards helping her to Lem's house. When you reach the backyard, you'll have to make haste with Rump Roaster, ending the level.

180082-lo.jpg Road Warrior40:1gs:

Beat the fifth level

Story-related; unmissable

Mission 5: Highway to Hell (Nebraska) will strand your progress as you must put out the fires on the road, leaving you to find fire extinguishers but you must destroy Porta-Potty nests and defeat Hawking first.

180083-lo.jpg 20 to Life 45:1gs:

Beat the sixth level

Mission 6: Last Gas (Iowa) will have you looking for gas. As you hunt for the gas, you must destroy Porta-Potties, kill the Alpha prisoner, #LV426, and siphon 5 gas pumps to finish the level.

180084-lo.jpg Silver Life a Fox 50:1gs:

Beat the seventh level

Story-related; unmissable

Mission 7: A Walk in the Park brings you back to yet another escort mission for Granny, this time so that she can pay a visit to Karen's and then off to Frank's, but now you'll have to deal with Swatters and their nest points, SWAT vans.

180086-lo.jpg Tanking the Horde 60:1gs:

Beat the ninth level

Story-related; unmissable

Mission 9: Get Tanked (Virginia) is one of the toughest levels as it has quite a number of nest points and it's tasked you to get to the depot yard, turning on the main power, and finding a tank shell to make an exit to the level.

180087-lo.jpg Casablanca 65:1gs:

Beat the tenth level

Story-related; unmissable

Mission 10: Drain My Swamp Ass (Virginia) is another tough level as you must deal with destroying multiple nest points, clearing the streets of the zombie horde and making your last stand in front of the White House for 240 seconds as the horde rushes to trash your campaign for President. Completing the last level will also unlock Nevada as a playable character. This also unlocks New Game + as the levels are more difficult but grant you bonus points.

180088-lo.jpg Road Less Traveled 50:1gs:

Beat all the side missions

As you progress through the story missions, side missions will start to appear after completing Mission 4: Old People. You can tackle these as you go along the main campaign. Here is the list of side missions that appear as the main levels are completed.

  • Mission 4: Snack Attack (Find All the Snacks, unlocks Horde Zombie as a playable character)
  • Mission 5: Expiration Dates (Find the Twinkies; unlocks Jessica Zombie as a playable character)
  • Mission 6: Style Points (Reach 100 Zombie Kills, Kill 250, Kill 450; unlocks Ninja Zombie as a playable character)
  • Mission 7: Quantity is Job #1 (Kill 500 Zombies; unlocks Hawking Zombie as a playable character) This side mission is the best level for grinding skill points
  • Mission 8: High School Reunion (Defeat Coach Cannibal - he also appears in Mission 10 if you skipped this side mission; unlocks Madison as a playable character)

180089-lo.jpg Direct Flight 25:1gs:

Travel from L.A. to D.C. in under 5 hours and 45 minutes

The story missions are pretty straighforward as the levels are relatively short. Pausing the game while in the level does NOT count against your time. Even when looking around for better weapons, not skipping the dialogue, I still made good time clearing the levels under this time. Try to avoid using melee weapons at times, otherwise, you may be overwhelmed with hordes of zombies. Stick to mid-to-long range weapons like an AK47, M4 Burst Rifle or even Dual SMG will be the way to go. Just stick to completing the objectives to quickly ending the levels in good time.

180090-lo.jpg For Your Consideration 80:1gs:

Earn ZKOTW 12 times

"ZKOTW" stands for Zombie Kill of the Week. To get 12 of these is easy, just play the first mission, Learn Your Rules, as it is the shortest level and can be handled solo. Unfortunately, you can only be nominated while playing in co-op. Log in with a guest account on the second controller. Now, move them up until Rule #7: Travel Light, and let the zombies down them after that. DO NOT REVIVE THEM. Finish the level on your own. For you to be considered for the ZKOTW award, you must have an explosive multi-kill, so have zombies group together near the red car that is next to the locked gate and blow it up. This way, you'll be nominated for the ZKOTW and win it everytime. You must finish the level for you to get the award. Now, repeat 11 more times.

180091-lo.jpg 10 Times the Violence 25:1gs:

Fully upgrade Weapon Damage

Depending on how your performance was during a level, points will be awarded to you after completing the level. For increased Weapon Damage, every point spent will increase 5% for a total of 50% once fully upgraded. You are only able to upgrade your character after every level completion. 10 skill points will be required to max out this perk. Grinding side mission 7: Quantity is Job #1 will help max you out much sooner as you get 2 skill points per run. NOTE: This upgrade does not extend to land mines, grenades, and Molotovs.

180092-lo.jpg 10 Times the Bullets 25:1gs:

Fully upgrade Weapon Durability

Depending on how your performance was during a level, points will be awarded to you after completing the level. For Weapon Pick-ups uses or ammo, every point spent will increase 5% for a total of 50% once fully upgraded. You are only able to upgrade your character after every level completion. 10 skill points will be required to max out this perk. Grinding side mission 7: Quantity is Job #1 will help max you out much sooner as you get 2 skill points per run.

180093-lo.jpg 10 Times the Blood 25:1gs:

Fully upgrade Health

Depending on how your performance was during a level, points will be awarded to you after completing the level. For increased Max Health, every point spent will increase 5% for a total of 50% once fully upgraded. You are only able to upgrade your character after every level completion. 10 skill points will be required to max out this perk. Grinding side mission 7: Quantity is Job #1 will help max you out much sooner as you get 2 skill points per run.

180094-lo.jpg 10 Times the Action 25:1gs:

Fully upgrade Speed

Depending on how your performance was during a level, points will be awarded to you after completing the level. For increased movement speed, every point spent will increase 3% for a total of 30% once fully upgraded. You are only able to upgrade your character after every level completion. 10 skill points will be required to max out this perk. Grinding side mission 7: Quantity is Job #1 will help max you out much sooner as you get 2 skill points per run.

I highly recommend upgrading this perk first.

180095-lo.jpg 10 Times the Amazement 25:1gs:

Fully upgrade Special Meter

Depending on how your performance was during a level, points will be awarded to you after completing the level. You get points for Buddy System, Item Aquisition, Kills and Difficulty. For Special Meter (activated by pressing :1lb:+:1rb:) upgrades, every point spent will increase 10% for a total of 100% once fully upgraded. You are only able to upgrade your character after every level completion. 10 skill points will be required to max out this perk. Grinding side mission 7: Quantity is Job #1 will help max you out much sooner as you get 2 skill points per run.

180096-lo.jpg Variety is the Spice of Life 20:1gs:

Earn a kill with every weapon

All of the weapons are picked up from vehicle trunks and green chests. Both items do spawn random weapons, so just in case you happen to die, the weapon you were looking for may not be there a second time around. Here is the list of all of the weapons in the game that you need to get kills with.

  • Pistol (starting weapon)
  • Axe
  • Shotgun
  • Dual Pistols
  • SMG
  • Rifle (sniper rifle)
  • AK-47
  • Katana
  • Minigun
  • M4 Burst Rifle
  • Nailed Baseball Bat
  • Pitchfork
  • Guitar
  • Dual SMG
  • Land Mine
  • Grenade
  • Molotov

180097-lo.jpg They're All the Same Now 25:1gs:

Kill one of every zombie

Regular zombies don't count - you must kill the ones that are introduced during certain main missions and side mission cutscenes. Here is a list of the named zombies and where to encounter them.

  • Clown (Mission 1)
  • Ninja (Mission 2)
  • Big Hoss (Mission 3)
  • T800 (Mission 3)
  • Vombie (Mission 4)
  • Rump Roaster (Mission 4)
  • Gut Buster (Mission 5)
  • Hawking (Mission 5)
  • Prisoner #LV426 (Mission 6)
  • Swatter (Mission 7)
  • The King and the Scream Queens (Mission 8)
  • Coach Cannibal (encountered in Side Mission 8: High School Reunion; he will also appear in Mission 10 in the horde if you didn't kill him on this side mission)

180098-lo.jpg Innovation & Industry 20:1gs:

Gain a kill with every environmental hazard

Environmental hazard kills are objects that you interact with (:1rb:) for them to help you slaughter the zombie horde. To get the first environmental kills on the first level, I recommend playing as Wichita as her special, the Wichita Shuffle (:1lb:+:1rb:) can bait the zombies with a decoy, placing it right in front of the rides as you turn them on, killing them instantly. The roller coaster of death, Speed Demon, doesn't count as it only rolls by once after getting it to move. Here is the list of the environmental hazards to look out for and which mission they first appear in.

  • Pharaoh's Fleet (Mission 1)
  • Ferris Wheel (Mission 1)
  • Tower Drop (Mission 1)
  • Carnival Ride with arm with wheel (can't catch its name; Mission 1)
  • Ticket Stands (Mission 1)
  • Porta-Potties (Mission 2)
  • Red Cars with health bars
  • Gas tanks with health bars (Mission 2)
  • Backhoe (Mission 2)
  • Shopping cart with propane tank in grocery store (Mission 3)
  • Fork lift when fighting the T800s (Mission 3)
  • Fire hydrants (water must hit zombie for it to count)
  • Helicopters

180099-lo.jpg Just as Great as the Original 90:1gs:

Last 88 minutes in a single Horde Mode

I recommend that you tackle this trophy after upgrading all of your perks on a character. If not, make sure that, at least, your movement speed is at 10. Little Rock is a great choice as her super special, Murder & Mayhem, will come in handy as you shoot faster, heal yourself and reload super quick; just running around will fill up your special meter. Also, Wichita is a good choice as well as her super special, Wichita Shuffle, can buy you some time to find a new weapon or health if needed. The best map to do this on is Circus Swarms. When you get a wave on where you have to kill an "X" amount of zombies. Run around the map, though, zombies will continue to spawn from manholes.

Item pick-ups like health, speed boost and weapon crates do respawn after every wave but will not spawn at all once you reach Wave 20 and up. Save the nukes until you're surrounded by zombies; when you run into it, it'll wipe out every zombie that is on screen, but not the entire level. For the early waves, use up the melee weapons as when the waves of zombies get tougher, you'll leave yourself open to one-hit deaths by Swatters. Once time is up, you can either finish off the waves or let the horde kill you. Don't forget to time yourself as there is no in-game counter that would keep track of this.

-OR-

The best and, by far, the easiest method is this: load horde map, Not So Pleasantville, the first wave should be KILL THE ZOMBIES! (35 of them). Run North-East towards a red explosive car near 2 cop cars, you'll notice 2 barrel drums. Climb on top of the one that is standing up, wait here for the entirety of the 88 minutes. Here is a screenshot on what it should look like. I recommend that you time yourself and leave your controller plugged up (charging or use a wired one) so that it doesn't accidently turn off. Remember that pausing the game stops the timer. Occasionally move the :1rs: in any direction just to be safe. Once time is up, let the horde kill you. The achievement will pop.

Why 88 minutes? That's how long the original "Zombieland" movie runtime was.

180100-lo.jpg Was that a Triple Tap? 20:1gs:

Kill three zombies with one sniper rifle shot

During the "Don't Be a Hero" objective during the first level, while grabbing the second key, the sniper rifle will be located in a green weapon box after moving the roller coaster ride where you must hold :1rb:. Run around to get a group of zombies to chase you, line up your shot with :1rs:, then fire. This should take a try or two as the sniper rifle (listed as RIFLE when picked up) is a very powerful weapon from the start of the game.

180101-lo.jpg Gotta Love the Classics 20:1gs:

Kill four zombies with one shotgun blast

This one can be obtained during the first level, during the "Grab the Key!" objective. Just grab the shotgun from one of the cars' trunk (due to random spawns), go forward to get a bunch of zombies grouped together, run back then unload into the bunch. It may take a few shots as your skills are at default and do very little damage.

180102-lo.jpg Burn, Baby, Burn 20:1gs:

Kill six zombies and light yourself on fire with a single Molotov

During the "Don't Be a Hero" objective in the first level, while grabbing the second key, the Molotov will be located in a green weapon box by the roller coaster ride where you must hold :1rb: to get it to move or in the Clown zombie reveal area due to its random weapon placement. Run around to get a group of zombies to follow you, fire into the crown to bring their health down, toss the Molotov on the ground in front of you then run into it; they will follow. This will catch the zombies on fire as well as yourself. This may take a few tries although upgrading Weapon Damage will not help you when going for this one later in the story campaign as it only pertains to fire arm weapons.

180103-lo.jpg Sweetennial 30:1gs:

Collect 100 Twinkies to celebrate 100 years of Hostess!

Twinkies are the form of health pick-ups in the game and are scattered throughout the levels. Pick them up when health is low; it also counts as a pick-up if your health is full. You can keep playing the side mission, Expiration Dates, to get this one out of the way as it has a bunch of Twinkies to collect for a very small level, but this will come naturally as you continue playing the game, searching throughout each level.

It has been brought to my attention that on the PS4 version of the game, you can sign in a guest by holding the PS button to fill all slots for the Fully Loaded trophy. Well, unfortunately, the Switch User Method doesn't work here. Adding a guest account takes over the main account, only managing one character, and not adding a guest account to an additional slot. Even signing in with an actual account doesn't seem to work also.

So, for the Xbox One version, four controllers will be necessary for the Fully Loaded achievement.
