Introduction:

Carrion is a reverse horror game, where you play as a horrible creature stalking your prey. As you try to escape your prison, you will evolve and learn new abilities to solve puzzles and devour humans. Your origins and purpose may not be known, but that doesn’t matter now as you stalk and consume those who imprisoned you.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

Almost every achievement is related to natural progression through the game. You will need to find 9 containment units (“One Monster, One Jar”, “Jarring Experience”, “Jean-Michel Jar”, “Jared Stults”) to complete everything in the game and further evolve your creature. You can back track after completing the game, so you don’t need to worry about missing anything.

You will face normal humans, who are basically just food for you; however, there are some that will fight back. As you progress, you will find yourself coming up against shielded humans with guns/flamethrowers, mechs, and drones. While you can fight them head-on, you can also fight them strategically and safely by using vents in the area to get around them or your various abilities. The Web Sling ability is especially useful against drones, as you can knock them out of the air, making them easier to grab and throw around. Invisibility is good for getting behind enemies when the environment isn't helpful (pay attention to your power meter). You can even use mind control to control a human and shoot others, or even pilot the mechs yourself. It should also be noted that you will evolve to larger versions of your creature, unlocking more abilities, and can upgrade/downgrade by depositing/retrieving your biomass at designated areas. Different versions of your creature have access to different abilities and you may need to use multiple abilities from different versions to get through an area. Finally, if you are struggling, you can complete portions of an area and then back track to a hive to save your progress (you can save an unlimited amount of times).

The game lacks an in-game map and getting around, especially when back tracking can get confusing. Here is a link to maps of each area of the game to help you through. Big thanks to the creator of those maps: Demajen.

Mop-Up:

The only mop-up you may need to do is related to the 9 containment units and back tracking to collect them.

Conclusion:

Carrion is a fun, unique experience. You will feel almost invincible at times, yet there are still moments where you need to be strategic and carefully move through areas. The game features some puzzles, using your abilities, that can be challenging, but aren’t impossible. Just playing the game will net you close to 1000:1gs:, so who can hate that!

Locked

This unlocks for collecting all 9 Containment Units located throughout the game. You can back track to collect these, so I recommend either completing the entire game and reloading your last save or back tracking from after you breach the Bunker. Throughout the story, you will find these containment jars that help to upgrade your creature; however, the collectible Containment Units are denoted by a glowing diamond-like symbol that is usually on a wall or above a door that leads to the Containment Unit. Only these count towards the achievement.

See the video below for all 9 locations.

After unlocking "Machines Can Expire Too", head to the left and go down the first tunnel. You will emerge in a large area with a pool of water in the lower-left corner of the area. In the center of this area is a door you can squeeze in to begin this flashback.

Story-related; this unlocks for reliving the second memory sequence.

After unlocking "Intoxication", follow the shaft on the right, moving up and to the left. Working your way through the area, continue up the shaft and you will see an electric box and biomass pool. Continue to the left and you will see an entrance to another level which we can’t access yet. At the top-left of this area, head through the tube to emerge in a large area. There is a drone here to destroy it any way you can. In doing so, a door will open up at the bottom of the chamber. Head through it and you will see the entrance to the next flashback.

Completing this flashback unlocks this achievement and opens a door in the lower-left corner of the area (underwater) so you can proceed with the story.

Story-related; this unlocks for reliving the final memory sequence.

After unlocking "Water Under the Bridge", exit to the right and continue for a couple of screens. You will discover the entrance to the final flashback when you enter the next area called (‘Frontier - Highlands’).
